2016: Today’s A Big Day For Candidates

Today is Saturday and I usually turn to subject matter that has nothing to do with politics, foreign policy or war…..but today is a big day that deserves a few insights…….

We have the SC primary for the GOP and the Nevada Caucus……there  are a couple of candidates for both parties that need to win and win …..BIG!

Saturday is a big day for the presidential hopefuls from both parties, with Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders facing off in the Nevada Democratic caucuses and Donald Trump taking on all challengers in the South Carolina Republican primary. How both of those events play out could have major impacts on the rest of the race. Here are six things you need to know:

  • Both Clinton and Sanders have a lot to lose in Nevada, NBC News reports. A Clinton loss “would launch another week’s worth of negative headlines for her campaign,” while “a Sanders loss could even be more impactful because it would set up Hillary Clinton to start running the table” in the south.
  • The Washington Post believes the GOP side is turning into a three-man race in South Carolina and beyond. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have been “attempting to position themselves as the main alternative to Trump,” but “Trump is still the biggest attraction of all, dominating the polls and attracting huge crowds wherever he goes.”
  • Clinton made a serious mistake when “she failed to take Bernie Sanders serious enough,” allowing him to close the gap in Nevada, the Los Angeles Times reports. Now even a narrow victory over Sanders in Nevada “could raise strong doubts about [her] candidacy.”
  • NBC notes that while Trump has had the lead in South Carolina polls for months, its no longer looking insurmountable. His 16-point lead from last month has crumbled to 5 points in one recent poll.
  • USA Today highlights five questions, the answers to which will determine the way the Nevada caucuses go. One of the major questions is whether turnout will be small enough and—especially—diverse enough to deliver a win for Clinton. “If she loses Nevada because—horror of horrors—the caucus voters looked more like New Hampshire and Iowa, Clinton will have to look in the mirror. Or at her field operatives.”
  • Finally, things aren’t looking good for Jeb Bush (not to mention John Kasich and Ben Carson), according to Politico. Morale is down in the Bush camp, with even his biggest supporters believing “Saturday might be the end.” Donors are reportedly ready “to intervene and tell Bush, depending on his finish here Saturday night, that his time is up” after a week one describes as “a kick in the balls.”

With luck two things will occur…..Jeb! gets his ass handed to him and Clinton hits a Bernie wall……both events would go a long way to making this a more interesting election process…..

What say you?

Now I shall go watch paint dry…….

      1. Waltzing Matilda to you too..chuq
        Oz is me other half!
        Love this song….
        😉

  1. Is there any way we could hold on to Jeb!’s ass and hand Trump’s back to him instead? At least Jeb! isn’t likely to blow us all up in our sleep…

  2. Morale is down in the Bush camp, with even his biggest supporters believing “Saturday might be the end.” – Politico story

Which Saturday? This Saturday, or every Saturday for the last 6 months? Because it’s just as applicable and just as pointlessly speculative. The dude still has more money left in his coffers than…well…than the fucking US government does, actually. Is the US government shutting down after Saturday? (Maybe.)

What “biggest supporters” are they getting this “It’s life or death” spiel from? His key campaign staff? Well, that’s some genius job security move! Fellow bored shitless “reporters” over shots of whiskey? Marco Rubio? John K-suck? Cause NOT ONE source is named in that story, not even a fucking gum-flapping pundit! And hardly any numbers, or anything resembling a “fact” is present in that story. The only facts are that the Governor endorsed somebody else and “Bush is polling at 1% in Nevada”, for whatever such polling is actually worth.

It’s all just nameless people (who may not even exist) being glum about Bush, a guy who has probably been glum and unenthusiastic for a year now. What’s different? If they want the real story, they should just ask his mom. She doesn’t hold back any punches, especially on her kids.

This is just another case of made-up horse-shit the media tries to lazily pass off as “news”. For all we know, the reporter just pulled it all out of his ass in order to fill space. I could have written this shit from my desk in Canuckistan.

      1. Yeah, but that ain’t the point. Just like The Warren Commission, even though the overall finding might have been correct, being correct was nothing more than a happy coincidence. But that coincidence IN NO WAY excuses that article. Even though it’s mission was a cover-up, at least the Warren Commission put in a lot of effort to generate a report with a lot of facts & named witnesses in it.

As I said, I could have written that article from my desk in Canuckistan without talking to anybody.

This just in….Trump To Exit Race After Nevada Cock-us

Sources deep inside the Trump Campaign tell Sedate Me that Trump has grown tired of flying around the country in his private jet and giving speeches to arenas full of “unemployed, unwashed, losers”. Several of Trump’s advisors have told Sedate Me that Trump gathered them in his War Room on the night of the South Carolina Primary and told them…

“This whole thing was just supposed to be a few months of fun for me. And it was a lot of fun. But you get an arena full of these people and, after hours of being crammed together, it starts to smell pretty bad. After about 10 of these, it started to get boring. I originally planned to drop out before Iowa, but these huge crowds of people with absolutely nothing else to live for kept showing up. I felt sorry for them, so I kept going. I’ve spent a lot of time & money keeping them entertained. But the fun is over and I’ve got money to make. Sure, they’ll miss me, but they can still watch my TV show….So I’m dropping out after Nevada. There’s property in Vegas I want to check out for a possible development and it will give me a chance to give one last fantastic speech in the lobby of my hotel there.”

When asked to comment, supporters of both Rubio and Cruz tried to contain their obvious glee. Senior Bush advisors Sedate Me they wished they had known this earlier, claiming they would never have said the undermining comments they gave to reporters over the last week, if they had known Trump was dropping out.

See how easy it is? Five minutes of typing and nobody would know it’s all made up. Hell, I’m half expecting the above to appear in some “real” reporter’s next article.

Not to pick on this one story, or go overboard (Too late!) but this kind “journalism” only magnifies the political rot in America. It’s just lazy, un-sourced, speculation written to drive an entertaining narrative, rather than inform. I’m sick of it.

And it could just as easily be written by somebody with a personal/political agenda. You’d never be able to tell. It reminds me of all the pre-Iraq War bullshit where “journalists” (some of them paid by the White House) just mindlessly parroted the utter bullshit Cheney & Co invented out of thin air. And then Cheney etc would go on TV and point to said bullshit the press eagerly printed as “proof” the administration is right.

      2. The problem is that, while it looks exactly like one on TV, this ain’t some Reality TV bullshit. This ain’t even Miss America. This is Mr America! The “winner” of this Clown Car pile-up you can’t look away from….gets to put his paws on The Button!

As much as I despise Jeb!, he was probably the least-worst, least-insane, least-incompetent, Republican left….and I never really got to say “Jeb!”

        Jeb! Jeb! Jeb!

      3. I agree but apparently he is a terrible candidate…spent all that cash and got nothing in return….kinda like that….chuq

      4. Jeb! may have been a lousy candidate. (After 15 years of unsuccessfully running for Municipal offices, I knows me some awful candidacies!!!)…But let’s be honest, was he any worse than his brother, who actually WON the nomination? One-on-one contest, we know who wins.

Jeb’s! biggest problem was that he just wasn’t entertaining enough. He didn’t swear at people, throw tantrums, or say nasty shit that “blew up The Twit Zone!” And in an era where iDiots line up by the millions to purchase the same stupid phone they bought last year on its very first day on sale, Jeb! wasn’t the shiny new toy people wanted to play with. Jeb! was -like- “so last year”.

This well connected, experienced, former governor was passed over for a deported Canadian mental patient, a Reality TV villain, a modern Ricky Ricardo (with Lucy’s brain) and Black Droopy Dog. Not ONE of these clowns would have been taken seriously 20 years ago. Now there’s not just space for ALL of them, one is actually going to win! This Primary Marathon is a lousy process that gets worse every election. What’s required to be a “good candidate” is getting further & further away from producing a good President.

Selling the soap is very different from actually cleaning shit up. This Primary process becomes bigger, longer & more expensive At the same time, you’ve got to wake up an even more jaded & bored populace who are increasingly less interested and have increasing more diversions. Going into the future, you’re almost going to HAVE to be a Trump, or a Kardashian, to break into the public’s tiny, HDD-adled mind. Woe be unto us all!

And yes, Jeb! will go down as one of the worst results-per-dollar spent candidate. Winning 4 Delegates cost him about $150 million. But he’s not the worst. If I remember, 2008’s Walking Circle “shoe-in”, Rudy Giuliani, spent…60 million-ish to get 1 Delegate…who bailed on him…so he wound up with zero. THAT’S failure!!!

So don’t feel so bad, Jeb!

      5. What can I say…Jeb! was just a horrible candidate….all he had was Daddy’s buddies and their money…..but that cannot buy a personality….he is a loser and hopefully we will never see him again….chuq
