2016 GOP: Yet Another One Bites The Dust

The blood letting in New Hampshire continues….they are dropping like flies in the GOP…..first after the vote was Christie and now we have one less (again)….Carly Fiorina……the report of her leaving is on Twitter for BBC……

Carly Fiorina

That brings the total body count still active to 6 or 7….who knows for sure?

Still working on confirmation…….just thought my readers would like to be up on Breaking News……

Confirmed by Financial Times…..

Say good-bye to Carly……gone and soon forgotten…..

New Hampshire: Populist Uprising – LA Progressive

There is another interesting story about the rise of populism…..this is becoming a gold mine for the media and their overpaid analysts…….I know I posted one  today….but I saw this one and figured it would fit into the conversation nicely…..

You know… the rise of American Populist thought………the candidates that embrace it…….

And you thoughts are?

New Hampshire: The Triumph of Populism

Iowa…..done!  New Hampshire…..done!  South Carolina awaits!

The media has been all over the 2016 election…..you see they have a new way to spin the angst of the American voter…..they are constantly talking about the new populism trend in American attitudes…..

This is the best thing that could happen so far in the election process….it gives the media something to focus on that they can spin, hype and exaggerate out of all proportion……

But is this populism really something to be proud of or something to be concerned over…..

The results of the New Hampshire primary are in, and the big winner is the new populism: that mysterious pro-“outsider” phenomenon that has the political class in a panic, and which no one has adequately defined – including its current practitioners. Donald Trump’s vote total of nearly 35 percent is impressive enough, but his two-to-one […]

Whatcha think?

Immigration: Keep Them Out!

I was thinking about something our boy Trump said recently…..although he has said much but most of it is about himself……but the thing I am thinking about is his statement about keeping certain people out of the US……..

A total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.

Trump said many Muslims nursed a “hatred” towards America. His statement to reporters on Monday said polling by the Center for Security Policy, a conservative think-tank, suggested that 25 percent of Muslims in the US believed violence against America was justified.

Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why, we will have to determine.
Until we [do]… our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad.

His campaign manager said the ban would apply to “everybody” – would-be immigrants and tourists.  Now that has been walked back….like most stupid statements……

Predictably the media and other candidates went batcrap crazy over these statements and all that got me to thinking about history (you guys knew I could let this go without a history lesson, right).

So is there some historical context in Trump’s words?

Yep, think National Origins Act of 1924……..

The Immigration Act of 1924, or Johnson–Reed Act, including the National Origins Act, and Asian Exclusion Act (Pub.L. 68–139, 43 Stat. 153, enacted May 26, 1924), was a United States federal law that limited the annual number of immigrants who could be admitted from any country to 2% of the number of people from that country who were already living in the United States in 1890, down from the 3% cap set by the Immigration Restriction Act of 1921, according to the Census of 1890.
It superseded the 1921 Emergency Quota Act. The law was aimed at further restricting the Southern and Eastern Europeans, among them Jews who had migrated in large numbers since the 1890s to escape persecution in Poland and Russia, as well as prohibiting the immigration of Middle Easterners, East Asians, and Indians. According to the U.S. Department of State Office of the Historian the purpose of the act was “to preserve the ideal of American homogeneity”. Congressional opposition was minimal.

Basically the US was worried about the spread of Communism after the Revolution in Russia a few years earlier and thought by eliminating immigrants they could control the spread….sadly few thought of the fact that one cannot control an idea by eliminating people.

There you have it!  Our man from NYC may have a big mouth but his idea is not an original one…… “to preserve the ideal of American homogeneity”.…..does that sound familiar?  It should for that is what Mr. Trump is preaching.

Class dismissed!

2016 GOP: Another One Bites The Dust

Last night was the ever important New Hampshire primary (at least for the media)……the big winners were Sanders, Trump and Kasich…….and the also ran are looking at their campaigns and their chances of going the distance….will there be another blood letting after the result are in?

Yep there will be a continuation of the GOP massacre following votes……we have lost some pretty horrid candidates after Iowa and now there is yet another victim after New Hampshire…….Chris Christie……

Republican Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie has dropped out of the presidential race, reports Fox Business.

Despite a strategy that heavily focused money and resources on New Hampshire, Christie ended up in a disappointing sixth place Tuesday. Christie announced shortly after Tuesday’s loss that he was retreating to New Jersey and would be reevaluating his campaign.

Another major hurdle to Christie’s prospects was that he was very unlikely to make Saturday’s CBS debate. Polling at seventh place nationwide and sixth in the next primary state of South Carolina, Christie faced an uphill battle with no clear path to victory.

The news was released by FOX….now would that be a credible source?

Marco Rubio is got to be relieved that his nemesis is gone…..maybe now he can go about his robotic campaign without being attacked by Christie…..

Wave good-bye to the Bully of the Bridge…..I wish I could say you will be missed…..but personally I just don’t care……

Walls Are The “New” Thing?

Today is going to be my post dump day….you see I always have drafts waiting in the wings in case I need them…..and I noticed I had twenty five drafts hanging around waiting for the best moment to post them…..and today is that moment….I need to clear out my drafts to make room for new ones…..

This one is an amusing article I read about a “wall” and since it is a big topic in the Right wing bobble-head sphere I wanted to let my readers know what was happening on the “wall front”……

We will begin with my typical insertion…a historical perspective……..Back in the days of the Mongol invasion China thought it would stop them in their tracks…..then there were the South Africans that build walls to keep the Black population at bay…..today the Israelis are building a wall to keep Palestinians out of their hair and easily controlled…..and now let us not forget the bold idea, that caught on in some circles, offered up by Trump of building a wall to keep people out of our Southern borders……then there is Macedonia that is building a wall to stop immigrants…….that was a quick synopsis of the news of “wall builders”……but it does not end there……oh no……

The Iraqi government has a brilliant plan…….

A spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has confirmed the construction of a security wall around the capital, Baghdad, after the premier apparently dismissed the idea.

Saad al-Hadithi said on Sunday that the wall is being built but stressed that it is “not politically motivated” or aimed at “achieving demographic change.”

Baghdad Operations Command said on February 3 that preparatory work for a security barrier had started without providing further details.

Iraqi Interior Ministry’s spokesman, police Brig. Gen. Saad Maan said the “wall” would include an increased number of checkpoints around Baghdad in an attempt to prevent Daesh Takfiris from smuggling car bombs in.

“It’s not a wall exactly…We have reduced the number of attacks inside Baghdad, but we are working to prevent them completely,” he said.

Okay what does this accomplish?

Let me see….the Iraqi government is mostly Shia and Shia militias and they do not have the best track record among the other demographics…..

There’s a slow-motion crisis brewing in Iraq — one dramatized by recent events that, over the long term, could make any victory over ISIS illusory.

This isn’t an isolated problem. Since Shia militias recaptured most of Diyala from ISIS in 2015, they have dominated the province, with minimal oversight from the Iraqi state. As a result, the ultra-sectarian groups have been free to attack Sunni civilians with impunity, making Diyala a dangerous place for Sunnis (a minority by national standards). Analysts disagree about whether it’s an organized campaign of ethnic cleansing, but the effect has been quite clear: Diyala has been depopulated of Sunnis.

So when the people say that it is not about demographics or ethnicity is that just hot air blown up our butts?

But are they right?

Walls do keep people out….but it also keeps people in…..and at times it could be like shooting ducks in a barrel……walls give a false sense of security….what goes up….can come down……

It may be a popular talking point but is it a viable solution?

I Read The News Today

Made me think of a Beatles song……sorry got side-tracked…..

We are told daily about the plans to “degrade and destroy” the barbarians we call ISIS or ISIL or IS (you choose the one you prefer)……we have been told that we maimed their leader….then we blew up their cash stash….and I have been waiting for further proof that what we are doing is truly deliver the promises…..and waiting…….then while surfing the net I found an article on military.com…..

A new intelligence assessment shows the size of the Islamic State force is shrinking in Iraq and Syria — but growing in Libya, a defense official said.

The new estimate for the number of fighters for the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS or ISIL, is between 19,000 and 25,000 in Iraq and Syria, down from prior figures ranging from 20,000 to possibly more than 30,000, according to a defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The exact reasons for the declining force size are unclear but may include battlefield deaths, the impact of U.S. airstrikes, desertions and recruiting problems, the defense official said.

Deserters also played a role in trimming IS military manpower, according to the National Security Council. “The decrease reflects the combined effects of battlefield deaths, desertions, internal disciplinary actions, recruiting shortfalls, and difficulties that foreign fighters face travelling to Syria,” National Security Council spokeswoman Emily Horne told Reuters.

Now is this just another “bright” intel assessment or is this true?

I ask because we have been given many “bright” intel assessments in the last several years…..and yet the conflict continues……or maybe the numbers are declining in Syria because soldiers are being moved to areas like Libya and Afghanistan…..

I realize that the intel report will not give all the particulars…..but I, personally, want to know the status……

More research is needed…..

As long as we are talking about the news……I saw something today that John Kerry said…….

Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday accused Russia of bombing women and children “in large numbers” in Syria.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, he said the Russian bombing campaign was not precise and that the Russians were using “dumb bombs.”

“This has to stop,” Kerry declared.

Seriously?  After all the civilians the US has “accidentally” killed with bombs and drone strikes and you are going to call Russia out on this?

Coalition bombings on oil refineries held by ISIS in the northeast of Syria killed fourteen militants associated with the group, but also five civilians. In total, since the bombing of Syria began on Monday, SOHR estimates that of the 183 total killed by U.S. bombs, 36 were non-combatants, many of them women and children.  And that was just recently….what about in all the years we have been engaged in this conflict?

Civilian deaths are just that civilian deaths…..no matter who dropped what…..I think it is the height of hypocrisy to point a finger at anyone….or as my grandfather use to say….”when you point your finger at someone just remember there are 3 pointing at you”……

Welcome to a new Parker Bros. game……Geopolitics…..fun for all…… 8 to 80……

While You Were Awe Inspired

Few days ago all of the country was on the edge of their seats waiting for the kick-off of Super Bowl 50 and then all would be anxiously awaiting Beyonce…..while you were turning your brain to play dough….there was something that could be a little more important than some silly football game…….

Let’s not overlook the attacks of some in the media on the halftime show……it is really funny the lengths some will go to and attack something for no other reason than they cannot grasp that it was entertainment…….

Now let’s talk about something that is truly important and disturbing at the same time…….

North Korea defied international warnings and launched a long-range rocket that the UN and others call a cover for a banned test of technology for a missile that could strike the US mainland. The rocket was fired from North Korea’s west coast and tracked separately by the governments Japan and South Korea, which immediately convened an emergency national security council meeting, reports the AP. South Korean media reported that the rocket may have failed, but provided no other details. The launch follows North Korea’s widely disputed claim last month to have tested a hydrogen bomb. This time, the North had said it was launching a satellite, reports CNN.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called the launch and the weapons test violations of UN agreements. “We absolutely cannot allow this,” he told reporters at the prime minister’s residence. “We will take action to totally protect the safety and well-being of our people.” A South Korean defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the rocket disappeared from South Korean military radars around six minutes after its launch. The official said there were no immediate reports of debris landing on South Korean territory or damaging property. The rocket’s first stage fell off South Korea’s west coast, the official said.

Now I ask…, what will the world do in response?

The UN Security Council has issued a statement strongly condemning North Korea’s rocket launch and pledging to “expeditiously” adopt a new resolution with “significant” new sanctions. The statement approved by all 15 council members at an emergency meeting on Sunday underscored that launches using ballistic missile technology, “even if characterized as a satellite launch or space launch vehicle” contribute to North Korea’s development of systems to deliver nuclear weapons. “There can be no business as usual,” said US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, per the BBC, adding that “we’ll come up with something tough.” Added Japan’s envoy: “The existing sanctions have not stopped North Korea from developing nuclear weapons.”

The statement stressed that using ballistic missile technology is a violation of four Security Council resolutions dating back to 2006. The statement also expresses the council’s commitment “to continue working toward a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the situation leading to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.”

That ought to spank his pee-pee…….(that was sarcasm in cased anyone missed it)………

What should the world do?  Or is watching the re-play of SB 50 more important to your future Fantasy League?

Will Johnny Go To War?

Once again the good people over at Ace News Room has seen to it that another of my op-eds have been published…..I appreciate their confidence in my writing to do so…..please when reading my piece take some time to look around they are an excellent news source for those that are looking for multi-faceted news…..

I have been saying for many years that the US is playing a dangerous game with our constant interventionism….and it is only getting worse….and when the situation gets worse the only answer our leaders have is…..more troops and more destruction…..

Source: Will Johnny Go To War?

To say that I am not very optimistic about the future and the chances of war would be an understatement…..there are too many indicators they say any peaceful settlement of international situations is never going to happen…..I am not alone in my worries…….

I try to be optimistic, and while sometimes it’s hard, I usually succeed in taking the long view that the case for peace and liberty will ultimately triumph simply because war and tyranny are incompatible with the requirements of an industrial civilization. That’s why the Soviet Union fell, and why, in my view, the Nazis’ […]

2016: New Hampshire’s In The Books

All the rhetoric for New Hampshire is a moot point…..the citizens have spoken and the head scratching begins….but not for long…..they are headed South…..

All the polls are also a moot point……all the hoopla is gone and now we have a real campaign beginning…..

Sorry I was rattling……(drum roll please)……the New Hampshire Winners Are…..

No late surprises in the New Hampshire top spots Tuesday night: Both the AP and CNN called the winners as soon as the polls closed at 8pm Eastern, with Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump triumphing easily. The bigger questions will be who finishes in the secondary spots in the GOP—though John Kasich has locked up second place—and how big Sanders’ margin of victory will be. In incomplete returns, Sanders had 59% to Hillary Clinton’s 40%, while Trump (34%) was followed by Kasich (16%), Ted Cruz (12%), Jeb Bush (11%), Marco Rubio (10%), Chris Christie (8%), Carly Fiorina (4%), and Ben Carson (2%). While the wins by Trump and Sanders were predicted by recent polls, the New York Times takes note of the bigger picture: These are victories by two relative “outsiders” who have “rocked the political establishment.”

The Washington Post has a similar line of thought: The night is a “remarkable victory for two outsiders who tapped into voter anger at the two parties’ establishments, each promising massive government actions to provide working people with an economic boost.” After accepting a thunderous ovation from his supporters at his victory rally, Sanders called his win “nothing short of the beginning of a political revolution.” Trump, meanwhile, said, “This is something very special,” and told supporters that his late parents were looking down with pride. Clinton, for her part, called Sanders to congratulate him as soon as the race was called. “It’s not whether you get knocked down that matters,” she said at her rally. “It’s whether you get back up.” A spokesman added that the nomination “will very likely be won in March, not February,” and predicted that Clinton would roll up a “potentially insurmountable” lead next month, reports Politico.

No time for a shower…..if you feel dirty because of the primaries….then you should feel even worse…..for the mud is about to get deeper……

First, look for Clinton to try and re-invent herself…..she will jump on the ant-Wall Street bandwagon……she will use more economic stumps than before…..she will change to meet the competition…..

Will there be another “massacre” within the GOP or will they wait for the results in the next primary?

Now on to South Carolina……let the nasty begin!
