Democracy: What A Way To Run A Country

I grow weary of the mental midgets that are always going on about our American Democracy….. we do NOT have a democracy and constantly repeating a lie does not make it so…..

Every election has me thinking about the political process in this country……we seem to be moving further and further away from the ideals that made this country great….or so it would seem.

With each election we are bombarded with slogans out the wa-zoo…..most of them have nothing to do with reality and that is no more obvious than when some candidate starts a diatribe on our “democracy”…..

Since I have taken upon myself a post on our democracy…..then you know what is to follow right?  That’s right a little historical context……(pause here for the high sighs……. the groans and moans)……..

Back in the days when I was lecturing when I was there talking about political theory….there was always someone that wanted to throw the democracy thing out there trying to catch the old Prof. off guard……

The truth is that the Founding Fathers had a pack of differing opinions on how to run this country…..and most did not want a democracy…….James Madison summed it up fairly well…..

“Hence it is that democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and in general have been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths … A republic, by which I mean a government in which a scheme of representation takes place, opens a different prospect and promises the cure for which we are seeking.” — James Madison, Federalist Papers No. 10.

We, the people, were never intended to run the country….rather we were to pick an elite to be our representative…..hence the term “representative democracy”…..even the great philosopher Socrates had a extreme dislike for democracy….he compared it to a ship of mutinous fools….to quote Socrates….”The ship’s captain is locked away, the navigator ignored and the crew  has ears only for the foolish words of their rebellious demagogue leader who just promises them what they want”………..democracy, in other words,  is leadership by the stupid, who make unrealizable promises to the ignorant……..( damn!  sounds a lot like our present day campaigns……why change what is so successful?).

Keep one thing in mind……you were NEVER intended to be eligible to be president…this country was formed by rich people for rich people…you are an inconvenience that they tolerate……

And the beat goes on………to New Hampshire.

  1. If what you are saying is true here …. and I happen to know for a fact that it is true … then what we need to do as a nation is to go back to the days when only property owners and slave holders were allowed to vote in the elections … Oh I forgot …. Lincoln freed one class of slaves and the Wall Street have replaced them with another class…. the working class …. but like I said, we need to go back to the basics the Founders had in mind and take the vote out of the irresponsible and complaining hands of the whining vugar class … the serfs … the peons … the ordinaries …. peripheral offal that should have never been given the vote in the first place.

    1. You can thank the anti-federalists for what we have especially the Bill of Rights….which was an add on to the Constitution…voting is fine as long as we vote for the elites that they pcik for us….

  2. Y’know, it’s nice to see honesty. Even when some is misguided….

The simple truth is, humanity will never have any peace, to speak of, until we give up the idea of governments altogether…. People do NOT need to be governed; that’s another myth perpetrated on us by religion and the aristocracy/oligarchy. The only peaceful culture we have ever had was prior to our learning to write, or cultivate food, simply because we are too irascible a species to ever get along easily with anyone, including our own species mates…..

In truth, Nature is governed by an anarchist, and we will only know true peace when we are extinct. It just isn’t in our nature to be quiet, or still, or to try to get along with others… unless we cultivate that quality…. Who among us does?…. Nobody I can see anywhere, other than isolated individuals here and there we seldom find or know of…. I know a few, and so do y’all, but, for the most part, humanity exists in such a way we are destined to kill ourselves…. and the time is getting shorter every day when that will occur….

    Trust Nature; it doesn’t lie…. It doesn’t need to….

Oh, re: misguided… I’m afraid, even with my critical nature, I cannot regard any other human as a peon, or offal, or any other sort of divisive elitist description…. Such remarks only highlight the speaker’s bigotry. I’ll call someone an asshole, but, not those who are merely ignorant, or less fortunately situated in life. That would say more about me, than about them….

    1. Bigotry is often the only defense against destruction of one’s rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by others who wish to force their own ways on us all. Bigotry is not an evil thing … it is a defense mechanism for the wise and the strong … Pacifism and too much tolerant accomodation are the keys to destruction of empires and civilizations.

  3. Some thoughts:
Madison was talking about republics. He must have been thinking about the Roman Republics, thousend of years before. Besides the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands 1581, when part of the Netherlands separated from Spanish rule, until 1795 when the French invaded, there hasn’t been another Republic till the American one. As far as I know.

Madison was right about the Roman Republics.
However you can’t make anaccurate assesment just on that.

    “Representative democracy”…
As I read this I had to think of the Dutch Waterboards.
    The history of it origins!

  4. Technically speaking, we do live in Democracies. There are Democratic structures and organizations in place. (voting, legislatures, etc) But that’s just technically. What completely missing is the SPIRIT of democracy. It has been completely subjugated to autocracy and oligopoly. We now live in virtually fascist states with REALLY, REALLY, good PR companies working for them. They have damn near all of us fooled.

Basically, we are allowed to choose the political equivalent of our Olympic Mascots every 4 years. The games themselves are run by an elitist cabal out of some well guarded palace in Switzerland.
