Some thoughts that I had and my friends at Legationes were kind enough to publish….if you guys get a chance drop by and say howdy….

I have been a radical, labor organizer, writer, lecturer, teacher, analyst, political activist , convention delegate and I still have my sanity--who knew?
History is strewn with invaders that overcame and assimilate a population and insurgents that overcame and became the population. It is hard to fight an effective offence with an army that carries it’s government with them and also harder to fight an actual country that possesses an army as well as a government.
It is possible that the transfer from insurgent and terrorist army to a government with law and citizens may actually defeat that army. However it is also possible that it will survive but be transformed. Either way, as you say, the Middle East has already changed. My sympathy for all concerned, whomever they be, Victor or Victim, ourselves included.
This most definately is not an endorsement of ISIS; a group I might consider abandoning my antiwar stance to destroy, but a realistic look at a devastating episode in a long line of such transformations through out history. dru
Thanx for your thoughts….I am thinking that a transformation will occur….but that will depend on how we deal with this situation….current course will end badly…
ISIS will never become a functioning state because not only does it look outward for enemies, it finds plenty of enemies inside it’s own ideologies because there are some many ways ISIS can find “Apostates” and so many different degrees of Apostasy within it’s perceptions, I do not see how it could ever become either cohesive or organized enough to maintain a lasting “State.” I think as long as they are who they are and as long as they believe what they believe they will always be at war either with outsiders or among themselves. That Mid Eastern Tribalist infighting is a hard nut to crack or to overcome. They have been killing each other for centuries.
I hope you are right but I see a move within the organization that they may try to solidify and work from their…..could be problematic….
A thousand years all they have known is killing, dying, death and destruction. That is in their DNA and it is not going to change on a dime.
We could go back in history and show that is just not the case….but that would not fit the paradigm……but let’s talk about today…..I think they could but it would be an authoritarian state like so many in the past….all I am saying is that I look past the headlines and the hate and look at the region and the actions….of course as always it will depend on many events and that will tell the tale…..I am just saying that it appears to be so today….that could change tomorrow….and may will happen.
John, outside forces are not doing it…if IS fails it will be from the inside….it will consume itself….as I see it….
Exactly the point! Thank you for sharing. I am in total agreement.
