In 2016 Campaigns, US Foreign Policy Not Faring Well

Keeping with the flavor of the day…..I would like to talk about what is being said on the campaign trails for the 2016 election……

For months I have been saying with all going on in the world that this election, the 2016 election, would be a foreign policy election….the first one in decades……but so far there has been very little about the international scene that has been said……most of it that has been uttered are some diatribes about what this candidate or that will do to defeat ISIS….there is so much more happening that we need to be aware of on the international stage….the war in Yemen, the drought in Ethiopia, China’s policies in the Pacific and hatred being shown around the world…….with all that there is still not much other than a few slogans for applause…..

I have been looking for a good reason for the lack of concern over international situations…….then I read this article by Ivan Eland……

After months of reality-show media coverage of the 2016 presidential campaign, the voting process is thankfully starting. As the voters begin to speak, perhaps the coverage will have more actual reality in it. In recent years, it is no secret that media coverage of elections virtually ignores where the candidates stand on major issues, in […]

I realize that it is still early in the nomination process but for me that is NO excuse for the lack of concern by candidates on the problems of the world…..

It matters not which candidate is your fave……if he/she is elected there is a world of problems that will need immediate attention and cute speeches and macho chest thumping will not cure……it will take foresight and decisiveness to solve……..

  1. Foreign Policy is less on the minds of American Voters than are such things as jobs and consumer prices and besides I do not see that many people on either side of the candidate trail this time around who have any appreciable amount of viable foreign policy experience to brag about. Rubio has served on some Foreign Affairs committee and Clinton has been Secretary of State and that might count for something … with someone … but not with me … I don’t think enough Americans are either interested in Foriegn Policy or know enough about it to talk about it intelligently. Pity.

    1. I agree…a pity. The problem is we are going to be at war for a generation or longer……and when Jr. gets taken to fight in a place no one has heard of they will be all pissed and want somebody’s ass for putting Jr. in this situation….maybe if they would pay attention they would vote accordingly….just a thought….

I am working on a piece about economic plans and what they will mean in the election…..it might surprise a few on whose plan is the best according to economists…..

      1. It looks to me like the whole family might be fighting since they have decided to let women into combat alongside their male counterparts. Boom! Mom gets blown away; Boom! Dad gets blown away. Nothing left of a family but the orphans. Why not just send them over there as a family unit and be done with it?

      2. I would guess that it will be similar to Vietnam…no two members of same family in combat at the same time….problem solved.

  2. I’m fairly certain there is not a large enough percentage of the American voting public capable of making anything resembling a rational, informed decision about for whom they will vote. That is why neither the candidates, nor the media, are bothering to cover those issues; the decisions won’t be made on their merits, but, on the prejudices and fears of the voters, as fanned into flames by both candidates and media, all according to the corporate agenda….

And, they aren’t even aware of their ignorance…. that’s the pity….

      1. Ah, no worries, mate; my pity wasn’t for them, ’twas for the rest of us, who held some hope for the dream… Just going with the theme above, ’twas all….
