Not Ready For Prime Time?

After his third place finish in Iowa Marco Rubio has shot up on the GOP credibility scale and the polls…..as they, GOP candidates, enter into New Hampshire he is still showing strong…..but sadly I do not think he is ready for prime time……

His last debate appearance showed his robotic and super rehearsed talking points……

Marco Rubio is widely agreed to have had a pretty rough night on Saturday—and it may have been bad enough to kill his chances in New Hampshire. According to a poll carried out on Sunday by a pro-John Kasich super PAC, Rubio has slumped to fourth place in the state with just 10% of the vote, just days after he was thought to be closing the gap on Donald Trump, reports Politico. The poll of 500 voters found that Trump is now way ahead with 35%, with Kasich second with 15% and Jeb Bush third with 13%. Chris Christie and Ted Cruz have 8% apiece, putting them in fifth and sixth place, according to the poll.

“It’s one of the most dramatic drops I have ever seen in 48 hours,” a spokesman for the pro-Kasich group tells Politico. “A rock doesn’t do it justice.” After Saturday night’s debate, Rubio was mocked for repeating the same “25-second speech,” even after Christie called him out on it. “I envy people who have message discipline to say the same things over and over again,” Bush quipped at a New Hampshire event, per the New York Times, which notes that Democrats and Republicans alike are calling Rubio’s “robotic” repetition one of the worst debate stumbles ever. A gloating Christie, meanwhile, says there “could be four or five tickets now out of New Hampshire, because the race is so unsettled now.”

Christie was the attack dog in the last GOP debate…….the perfect roll for him to play…after all there are some that say is nothing more than an over-sized bully…..

Marco Rubio came into Saturday night’s debate with a target on his back following his strong finish in Iowa, and Chris Christie didn’t hesitate. He attacked Rubio early, saying the Florida senator “simply does not have the experience to be president of the United States” and mocking him for getting rattled when he has to veer from his “talking points.” When Rubio repeated himself in criticizing President Obama, Christie lit into him again: “There it is, the memorized 25-second speech,” he said, per Politico. “There it is, everybody.” The reason behind Christie’s attacks: Both candidates are vying to be the “establishment” choice to take on Donald Trump or Ted Cruz, notes the Washington Post.

At one point during their back-and-forth, Rubio criticized Christie for having to be “shamed” into returning to New Jersey after the recent snowstorm. And Christie criticized Rubio for abandoning his immigration bill. “It’s abundantly clear that he didn’t fight for his legislation,” he said. “That’s not what leadership is. That’s what Congress is.” Some on-the-spot analysis from Jeremy Peters at the New York Times: “When it was his turn to respond, Mr. Rubio seemed unnerved, off-kilter and robotic,” while “Christie flashed his characteristic sharp, cutting ability to diminish a rival.”

Rubio will now have to defend his repetitive style thru the primary which may hurt his chances of another third place finish…..

The winner was Christie but will it help him get out of the basement of GOP candidates?

Maybe if you are a Rubio fan you may re-consider your choice….I do not believe he is gonna make it to the finish line……

  1. People who use robotic and well-rehearsed talking points when they are under pressure lack an essential element in formulating rational decisions when the chips are down and this is a consummate sign of weakness that we can afford by electing a wet-behind-the-ears one-timer to the most demanding job in the world …. and I think the American People are intuitive enough to understand that. I think the Marco Show is in its last season and people will soon drift to other channels for their political entertainment. BTW — Who cares anyway? I hear the next President is going to be chosen by FOX News …. Has anybody else heard that?

      1. My keyboard is very sensitive and might bite me if I do that … it is a lighted, battery-powered monstrosity that works off a powered hub with six usb ports… We do nothing on the cheap here…. but the keyboard can be sensitive …. oversensitive sometimes … growling … snarling .. snipping at me … don’t dare make him too angry. LOL

      2. My keyboard is a little above beer so I might be on the hook for some Chevas Regal or some Dinoroso …. or something — but the last time I tried to give him anything like that he shorted out from the thrill of it all …

    1. THe GOP mods are looking for someone the donors can control and Rubio fits that bill very nicely….I thought it was the liberal media that was suppose to be all powerful….

      1. They will if they put down the beers, pull the bills of their baseball caps forward, send the one-toothed hound dog outside and sit up straight on the couches ….

  2. I tried to force myself to watch this crap. But I was disgusted enough to change the channel EVEN BEFORE they took the stage! The fucking pre-game hype was as excessive as an NFL game’s. The coverage was a vulgar combination of beauty contest & sporting event…and the “news” people were all grinning & carrying on like kids getting cell-phone footage of a school yard girl-fight. George Snuffleupagus looked like he jizzed in pants.

Then the first 10+ minutes was entirely the kind of “Who said what about who” bullshit you’d see in Celebrity Beef Magazine, or some fucking Loserbook/Twit Zone exchange. I couldn’t take anymore and changed the channel to watch an ultra-cool episode of Spiderman (1967). Too bad I was out of “medicinal” brownies.

I checked back in after Spiderman just in time to see Boutros Boutros-Christie do what he does best…be an asshole. This time, Rubio was getting “stuck on the George Washington bridge”. I’ll admit, it was fun to see. But again, none of this has anything to do with anything that matters.

As I changed the channel again, I was depserate enough to watch a bit of Saturday Night Live for the first time in over a decade. Guess what? Bernie Sanders was hosting and had his evil twin, Larry David, on in a sketch. Not bad. Certainly more watchable than the debate, and likely just as informative.

(Is it too late to start “No 2016 until 2017?)

    1. I agree that the SNL was far mor4e interesting and informative than the debate…..this is not the first time I looks like a deer caught in headlights….there was his water thing after the state of the union last year….he is such a tool….chuq

  3. Exactly when did Candidates for Presidency of the US Empire get turned into gossipy teenage girls??? I didn’t time it, but the 1st 10+ minutes were entirely INTENTIONAL QUESTIONS from the so-called “news media” about what Mean Girl X said about Mean Girl Y. They were just trying to start a hair pulling catfight! It was as disgusting as it was meaningless.

The Reality TV show thing…it’s not just a mildly applicable joke anymore, is it? Is this how everyone in our society now relates to each other, even at the most serious, sober, levels?

If this is the best the nation has to offer, no wonder half the country has no intention of voting…and no wonder the whole thing is starting to crumble.

      1. They’re certainly are infantile twats with minimal substance between them. But the media went STRAIGHT to pushing the “infantile twat” button (probably because they themselves are infantile twats). This was an obvious attempt to generate more “newsworthy”, infantile, cat-fights they could feature in their next entertainment -er- “news” report . They make them say nasty shit about each other, so they can report it and then make them respond to the responses. (Rinse, lather, repeat.) Fucking repulsive!

This may be a worthy topic for you to cover as it’s own story. (Hint! Hint!) But check out this debate from the Grand Old Party’s past. Even though, they were in a “fight to the death” that either could win, I didn’t see ANY hair pulling. In fact, what I saw was an intelligent, rational, debate on issues & policies. It was loaded with facts, stats and valid policy comparisons. They were passionate, but polite, civil and always let the other speak. Everything was above the belt, even the stuff aimed at the Democratic opponent. Even when given the chance to take a free-shot against John Anderson, who just dropped out for a 3rd party bid, both passed. There were a few moments of levity, but everything was EXACTLY as serious as it should have been.

Boy is historical perspective a great thing! This video presents a very sobering, depressing, “then & now” comparison. This (6th & last) April 1980 debate is historically significant in many ways (other than being 6th & last):

        1) League of Women Voters: Where the fuck have they gone??? Debates now are sponsored by giant corporations, most of whom have far too much political influence already.

        2) Choice. The candidates had CLEAR policy differences and were respectful of each other’s views. Today, you couldn’t slide a piece of paper between any of the 25 Republican candidates’ policies. In fact, most of today’s candidates entire platforms couldn’t fill a piece of paper. Come to think of it, these 2 Republicans had wider policy differences than most recent Republican & Democrat Nominees have had!

        3) Republican heresies. Bush promoted alternative sources of energy and a nuanced, version of increased drilling. He also defended the power of the federal government over “states rights”. He even said “Mondale has been a good VP.” However, there are places where even Saint Reagan’s then radical policies differ sharply from today’s GOP.

        4) Reagan’s well argued policies were considered fairly radical to many Republicans of the day. Bush offered a strong defence of more traditional conservative economics, which more closely resemble current Democratic policy (aka “socialism”). Unlike today, both offered plenty of evidence as back up.

        5) Just like “What to do in Iran, Afghanistan & Cuba?”, the issue of illegal immigrants’ kids receiving government education came up (hehe) Both candidates were conciliatory to the illegals. Reagan even promoted full acceptance to the point of open borders, speaking out against the very concept of a wall.

        6) Shockingly, both candidates actually legitimately answered every question in detail without robotically repeating talking points, as they do now. You could watch this thing and actually learn a lot!

        6) Looking back, (and not just because Reagan won) Bush’s loss had one HELL of a long-term historical impact! Even though Bush later became President, this was probably the day moderate Republicanism died.

      2. American conservatism did die with that election…..now it is slogans of nationalism that has little to do with the reality on the ground….

      3. Watching that 1980 debate…(I know you didn’t, but you should!) after forcing myself to watch just 15 minutes of the 2016 New Hampshire shit-show….was BEYOND depressing! If I had a gun, I’d probably have “eaten it”.

This juvenile, hair pulling, Reality TV bullshit between robots, lying assholes and comatose Dr Death’s was made all the more offensive, all the more despicable, and all the more destructive by watching the high quality of that 1980 debate. I didn’t agree with hardly any of it, but it didn’t make me want to buy a survival bunker….even though Reagan DID bring us millimetres from nuclear destruction. After forcing myself to watch 15 minutes of 2016’s debate…I wish Raygun had brought us that few millimetres closer.

Our cultural memory of Reagan is a lovable, senile, buffoon who would fit nicely into a Teabagger meeting. The reality is anything but that. I hated the guy, but Reagan had more brains & class than all of today’s Republican Candidates combined! (Hell, most of the Republican party combined!) In that debate, he & Bush were sharps as tacks, had full command of the facts & never said a single bad thing about anybody.

I expected that debate to be much better than modern ones. But boy, it couldn’t be made MORE obvious America is headed to the Dustbin of History.

      4. I was watching that debate when I was in Europe working…..keep in mind that Trump was a Reality star….that should explain it all….
