FIFA: Say Good-Bye To An Era

Once again I feel it necessary for me to post on sports…..something I seldom do…..but this is just too big to ignore.

The big story around the world has been the corruption indictments against FIFA, the world football organization……ever since the story broke there have been calls for Sepp Blatter the Prez of FIFA to resign….not because he was involved but there are those that believe he had knowledge of what was happening around him.

Blatter was up for re-election to the presidency of FIFA and after a couple of rounds he won……I believe it was Jordan’s Prince Ali that was the runner up…….maybe he will get his chance at the spotlight now……..why now?

Sepp Blatter’s triumphant fifth term as president of FIFA is crashing to a halt after all of four days. Blatter today announced that he will resign as president of soccer’s governing body as soon as a successor is named in special elections, reports the BBC. In an almost comical understatement amid the growing corruption scandal, Blatter said, “My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody.” While Blatter has avoided any criminal charges so far, the New York Times reports that his top lieutenant, Jerome Valcke, has now been linked to $10 million in bribes, suggesting that charges against Blatter himself are possible.

In case anyone is interested in what Blatter had to say in his resignation………

“I have been reflecting deeply about my presidency and about the forty years in which my life has been inextricably bound to FIFA and the great sport of football. I cherish FIFA more than anything and I want to do only what is best for FIFA and for football. I felt compelled to stand for re-election, as I believed that this was the best thing for the organisation. That election is over but FIFA?s challenges are not. FIFA needs a profound overhaul.

While I have a mandate from the membership of FIFA, I do not feel that I have a mandate from the entire world of football ? the fans, the players, the clubs, the people who live, breathe and love football as much as we all do at FIFA.

Therefore, I have decided to lay down my mandate at an extraordinary elective Congress. I will continue to exercise my functions as FIFA President until that election.

That chapter is closed and now we can open a whole new line of pay to play…….

In The Shadow Of Panama

I do not know if many of my readers will remember the invasion of Panama in 1989 in Operation Just Cause….the US went into the country with guns a blazing and took down the country’s leader, Noriega.

Yep Reagan had his invasion…..that of the tiny island nation of Grenada and then Bush1 had to have his……Panama.

It is still a point of contention as to why the US invaded its once friendly ally……..Panama was an easy target because the U.S. already had a large military force in 18 bases around the country. Until 1979, the occupied Panama Canal Zone had been sovereign territory of the United States. The Panama Canal was scheduled to be turned over to Panama partially in 1990 and fully in 2000. The U.S. military would be able to crush a hapless opponent and ensure control over a vital strategic asset.

Washington began disseminating propaganda about “human rights abuses” and drug trafficking by President Manuel Noriega. Most of the allegations were true, and they had all been willingly supported by the U.S. government while Noriega was a CIA asset receiving more than $100,000 per year. But when Noriega was less than enthusiastic about helping the CIA and their terrorist Contra army wage war against the civilian population in Nicaragua, things changed.

Old news, right?

I bring all this up to write about a report I read on Venezuela from the Center of Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)………

The investigation is being carried out by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and federal prosecutors in New York and Miami—notably, this is not under the White House’s direction or coordination. And the case they’re building has foundations in the testimony of former cocaine traffickers, defectors from the Venezuelan military, and informants who were once close to top Venezuelan officials, including the former head of Cabello’s security detail.

All of this comes to light just months after the White House named Venezuela a threat to the national security of the United States, imposing sanctions on seven mid-level government officials on human rights grounds. And though in the lead-up to the Summit of the Americas in April, Tom Shannon, former Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere and current Senior Counselor to Secretary of State John Kerry, visited Venezuela to start bilateral dialogues, the new investigations could put a damper on subsequent efforts to address the U.S.-Venezuela relationship.

Shades of Panama?  Is this the same tactic used in the run up to the invasion of Panama?  Narco crimes are really easy subject to press….especially in the Southern hemisphere.

Is this the start of something big?  Will the government justify the invasion of yet another country?  How will this set with the American people?  Since drugs and terrorism has been used to justify many incursion why would this be any different?

Is this the next conflict that our troops will have to deal with in the near future?

The Condemnation You Will Never Hear

American spend their time hating and the media feeds this paradigm and the Right wing noise machine does nothing to help……

How many times have you heard the BS story of Muslims and their lack for condemnation of the extremists?

Probably NEVER because the media does not want the story out there…..for once it is their domination of the hegemony is on the wane…….

I have even seen what some would call “liberal” bloggers that are on the same page as FOX News when it comes to feeding the hate…….

The truth is that there is almost always condemnation from the Muslim world the problem is the Western media does not report it…….since 9/11 there have been many individuals and organizations that have condemned this type of violence…….

I translated this from a Middle Eastern source……..

Kuwait City (AFP) – A conference of Muslim states on Thursday condemned main jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq and studied a plan for developing an effective strategy against “terrorism and extremism”.

“We condemn the gruesome atrocities committed by all terrorist organisations including Daesh (Arabic for the Islamic State group), Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra Front (its affiliate in Syria),” said the final communique of a two-day conference by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Sunni groups named are involved in armed conflicts in several Arab countries including Syria, Iraq, Libya, Egypt and Yemen.

No Shiite groups, such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, were mentioned in the communique.

“The escalation of violence and terrorist crimes threatens regional and international security,” the statement said.

The conference was attended by more than 50 Muslim countries at foreign ministers level, including heavyweights Turkey, Iran, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

I know this is NOT what most Americans want to hear……and they will not even know if this unless they read IST……this does not fit the paradigm the media wants to highlight……..

But to say that there is NO Condemnation of extremism is a LIE

There is more…….we hear that Islamic schools teach hatred and extremism……not so….but why listen to that for it does not aid in your illogical hatred……

In Egypt there is a movement to try and counter extremism in the education system………

In his battle against militant Islam, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is relying not just on bomber planes and soldiers but on white-turbaned clerics from Al-Azhar, Egypt’s 1,000-year-old center for Islamic learning. He wants clerics to counter radicalism in the classroom.

In a televised speech in January at an Al-Azhar conference center in Cairo, Sisi called for “a religious revolution” in Islam. Radicalized thinking, he told the audience of Islamic scholars, had become “a source of anxiety, danger, killing and destruction for the rest of the world.”

That had to change – and the scholars had a leading role to play, in schools, mosques and on the airwaves.

The president’s warning is part of a much larger project. To contain the radical Islamist movement roiling his nation, Sisi has most conspicuously been using the law and brute force. But he is also promoting a more moderate and less politicized version of the faith.

In that struggle the Al-Azhar institution is one of the most important fronts for Sisi – and for the wider region. The outcome of the struggle in Egypt, the intellectual and cultural capital of the Arab world, has ramifications far beyond its borders.

The Al-Azhar mosque was built in the 10th century and is one of the oldest in Egypt. It opened a university that spread Shi’ite Islam until the end of the Fatimid Caliphate in 1171. It later turned into a Sunni mosque and university that taught the four schools of mainstream Sunni Islam.

Today the university’s various faculties and research centers have 450,000 students, many from countries across Asia and Africa. It also has a network of more than 9,000 schools across Egypt attended by more than 2 million students.

Al-Azhar’s teachers, preachers, and researchers have so far introduced a few small changes. They include tweaking text books and setting up an online monitoring center to track militant statements on social media so the institute can better refute them. But there is no detailed reform program yet, and Al-Azhar officials openly acknowledge the magnitude of the challenge ahead

Another one of those stories that the West refuses to report……there are people that are trying to change the perception of Islam from one of extremism to one of tolerance……I am sure that there will be those that will not appreciate this story for, again, does not fit their paradigm…….I will admit that there is a long hard road for reformers to trek…..but at least they are trying.

AS I always say to haters……..CAN’T FIX STUPID!

AQ’s SEAL Team 6

I do not know if many Americans remember 6 months ago when the news on every channel was the Al-Qaeda had its own version of the “best if the best” soldiers…….in case you do not….they were called Khorasan.

All the news for about 2 weeks was what this group was and what we could expect from them as far as tactics go…….many many hours of coverage was given to this group and many experts were trotted out to tell the American people what this group was capable of accomplishing…….this effort by the media and the government convinced many Americans that another 9/11 style attack was being planned……

For my part I was dubious of this report…..there was NOTHING any where in any media that would lead me to believe that there was such a group….to me it sounded like propaganda to get the American people of the side of more intervention in the Middle East…….

Over the weekend I found someone who would talk on the record about this group……..

the head of al Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria gave the clearest indication yet that the group is a fabrication. In an interview conducted with Al Jazeera Arabic, Abu Muhammad al Jolani, the head of Jabhat al Nusra, said the following:

“The so-called Khorasan group, supposedly active within our ranks, doesn’t exist. We first heard about it via the media after the U.S.-led coalition bombed us. It is merely a Western invention to justify the bombings on us. There are some brothers from Khorasan who joined our strife though.”

That just confirmed my suspicion that the whole story was made up…..a lame attempt at propaganda……

Every attempt will be made to continue the people’s support of a war that is going NOWHERE!

We need to be vigilant…..check every accusation……check every “fact”…….the government has NO problem lying to the people…….it matters not the party that is in power…….

If they lied about this situation…….what else are they lying about?

2016 Republicans are completely ignoring the lessons of their 2012 ‘autopsy’

I recall shortly after the election of 2012 the GOP decided they needed to change things up if ever they were to win a national election……they did a party autopsy and found places that they needed to change to come more into line with the voting public… the time I thought it was a good idea but doubted if they would buck the radical fringe…….

I was right……they ignored everything they discovered to go down the losing road they have been on since 2008…..

But read more if you doubt what I say…….;

Are Americans’ ideas about war stuck in WWII ? – Mark Kukis – Aeon

I have spent many decades in the study of war and its causes…….it is a great field for war is the ultimate cause of a nation……or so we would like to believe…..

Americans are always promising and looking for a victory in any armed conflict…..the problem is that they are struck in 1945.

Wars are not the same as they were when we help save the world from fascism…..there are no clear cut front lines or a clear cut enemy.

Americans need to educate themselves on modern war and what can be expected as an outcome… victory is not feasible.
