Colorado: Amendment 48

There is going to always be a rant and a push for the banning of abortion……we have candidates that will keep this issue alive….they will always want to insert their personal beliefs into your life…..but it seems that Colorado is going a bit far in my humble opinion…..The official ballot title for the proposed amendment…..

An amendment to the Colorado Constitution applying the term ‘person’ as used in those provisions of the Colorado Constitution relating to inalienable rights, equality of justice and due process of law, to every human being from the beginning of the biological development of that human being.

Colorado voters could understandably read this measure as a simple equal rights protection. However, the true impacts of passage could be wide-reaching, confusing and dangerous. The threat of the measure doesn’t end with a statewide ban on abortion. A thoughtful reading of Amendment 48 also bans many kinds of contraceptives and could make women legally liable for miscarriages, as the Denver Post noted in a June analysis of the issue. James Johnson of Colorado Springs wrote an interesting analysis of the measure’s potential impact on corporations. A blanket legal redefinition of personhood would generate broad confusion and potentially force a re-examination of nearly every law in the state.

Okay, this is a crock of crap!  See the type of shit you get when you allow morons and demi-gods run the state or for that matter the country?  What is next?  Will we be told what we can watch on TV?  Or what books are official?

What Is Desecration?

I recall the days of yore when burning draft cards and flags was desecration….and then it was somehow alright to take the American flag and turn it into bandannas or head bands or underwear or t-shirts or…..on and on…..but the one thing that held strong was…it was NOT somehow okay to burn the American flag…….

My thoughts on the subject range from super liberal to a bit conservative…….on the one hand it is a piece of cloth with a couple of bright colors….and it is the symbol of our country…..but should it be protected?  If the answer is yes….then ALL items that depict the flag in an unflattering light should also be banned…and that includes those damn silly magnets, underwear, caps, hats, head bands and on and on…….

If that is not possible, then burning is an acceptable way of treating the flag…after all when an American flag is to be officially destroyed…how is it done…..BINGO!  They burn it.

Attorney Knustler in his argument in the Johnson v Texas, the case of of flag desecration closed with:

“And I understand that this flag has serious important meanings…that it has real meaning to real people out there. But that does not mean that it may have different meanings to other people out there and that they may not under the First Amendment show their feelings by what Texas calls desecration of a venerated object. I think it’s a most important case. I sense it goes to the heart of the First Amendment, to hear things or to see things that we hate tests the First Amendment more than seeing or hearing things that we like. It wasn’t designed for things we like. They never needed a First Amendment.”

Supreme Court Justice Kennedy said back in 1989:

“The hard fact is that sometimes we must make decisions we do not like. We make them because they are right, right in the sense that the law and the Constitution, as we see them, compel the result. And so great is our commitment to the process that, except in the rare case, we do not pause to express distaste for the result, perhaps for fear of undermining a valued principle that dictates the decision. This is one of those rare cases.”

There you have it…..knowing that not all Americans will agree with the ruling….but SCOTUS has spoken…….

And then there are those that yell the loudest about the desecration of the flag….like one Sarah Palin….but she does not know what she speaks of anyway……thanx to the site Newser:

Video from the event shows Palin signing a flag handed to her by a fan, thereby violating a section of the US Flag Code that states the flag “should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature,” notes Salon.
Despite her party’s tough stance against messing with the Stars and Stripes, Palin’s Old Glory “desecration” won’t likely ever be punished, even if she placed herself under citizen’s arrest, the Guardian notes. Another section of the code states that “the flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever” or be “printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkin or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.” (Click here for Palin’s last flag-related snafu.)

How To Make A Million (Actually 2)

By now we have all heard the story of the firing of the NPR commentator, Juan Williams….just in case you have been in a coma for a couple of days……well a whole magilla has rose up over some comments that the normally liberal pundit had to say on an appearance on FOX News:

NPR is facing sharp criticism for terminating the contract of news analyst Juan Williams.

Williams was fired Wednesday for violating NPR’s ethics policy over comments he made on Fox News about Muslims.

But those comments — and NPR’s response — have prompted questions about where the boundaries are drawn for journalists these days.

Williams appeared Thursday night on The O’Reilly Factor, the same Fox program where he made the initial comments that seeing fellow airline passengers dressed in Muslim garb makes him nervous.

When the news broke…my first impression was……when will he get his FOX contract now that he has found a way to get out of the one he was serving with NPR….the media has been all over NPR for his firing….it has made good fodder for the normally boring news programs…..was it racism?  Was it fear mongering?  Was it…..on and on…..well my first impression was the most accurate…..and in two days I had my answer….

Williams is now enjoying the full embrace of Fox News, which has given him a new three-year, $2 million contract and a guest slot, Friday night, as host of The O’Reilly Factor.

All this crap is just too damn predictable!  Williams is trying to capitalize on the mad money that flies around the people on FOX….he has done and will keep doing whatever it takes to get his slice of that pie…….

Former NPR new analyst Juan Williams joined the call in a Fox News appearance today to defund NPR in the wake of his firing, saying “if they want to compete in the marketplace, they should compete in the marketplace. They don’t need public funds.”

Williams continued that NPR tries “to make it out like, ‘you know what? We are a public jewel and we need the protection of the federal government,'” but that’s “nonsense. They are on the federal dole is what it is. And they better admit it and step up. If they want to compete.”

This guy is quickly becoming a media whore like the rest of the pundits on the tube……it is NOT about integrity….but rather chasing the God of the media….the dollar bill….

Sharia Law Cometh

I recently wrote about the possibility that birth control pills could be illegal in Colorado if a certain ballot initiative passes on November 2…….and we have seen that the Arizona law did a lot stopping just in time before they made it illegal to be Hispanic….I am sure that there are other referendums that the voter will be asked to decide on election….but this one has me stumped…..

The newest lunatic suggestion is beyond idiotic….I realize that Americans quake in the shoes when they hear the word Muslim….but PLEASE!

This measure amends the State Constitution. It changes a section that deals with the courts of this state. It would amend Article 7, Section 1. It makes courts rely on federal and state law when deciding cases. It forbids courts from considering or using international law. It forbids courts from considering or using Sharia Law.

Forbids the use of Sharia Law……is this a big problem here in the US?  Are judges making rulings based on Sharia Law instead of the Constitution?

Do any of you slow thinking people even know what Sharia Law is?  Let me help a bit……

  • Sharia Law is described as “a religious code for living, in the same way that the Bible offers a moral system for Christians.”
  • Sharia Law cites “Haram” offenses that carry punishments for those who commit them.
  • Offenses include pre-marital sex, adulter, alcohol intake, theft, robbery, etc.
  • Sharia Law has been adopted across various countries.
  • Sharia Law is intended to be applied to only Muslims.

The key for you mental midgets is the last point in the series….the Law is intended to apply to Muslims ONLY…….therefore it is virtually impossible for it to be applied to anything in the US…..Let me know if you have a problem understand that complexity….

Are these people slow or just plain stupid?  I realize that they are afraid of their own shadow when it comes to anything Muslim…..but really…..give this kind of waste of time and effort a rest…..

Winning Through Intimidation

Do you remember back in the day, about 2 years ago, when some members of the new Black Panther Party was said to be intimidating voters during the voting process and FOX News was all over it…..explaining just how violent these members were talking….the new Black Panter Party has a membership of about 5 people….a real force to be feared…or maube it was because they were African-American and we know how FOX feels about anyone with brown skin, huh?

Well it seems that the Black Panthers are not the only ones trying to intimidate voters….this happened in Houston during early voting for the mid-terms:

A Tea Party group called the King Street Patriots has been accused of “1960s style” voter intimidation in primarily minority precincts on the first day of early voting in Texas. The group is being sued by the Texas Democratic Party, following the filing of 14 voter intimidation complaints with the county clerk, and another two dozen with the Texas Democratic Party chairman.

The complaints, he said, came from Kashmere Gardens, Moody Park, Sunnyside and other predominantly minority neighborhoods. The complaints included poll watchers “hovering over” voters, “getting into election workers’ faces” and blocking or disrupting lines of voters waiting to cast their ballots.

“Keep in mind these are allegations of voter intimidation,” O’Rourke said. “It’s sometimes in the eye of the beholder.”

I watched FOX News as often as I could yesterday and today and so far I have heard NOTHING about this incident……nothing like the outrage they felt when the Panthers were accused of the same tactics…..

The Best Thing That Could Happen

I am sure that during this season of silly slogans and lying a/holes you have heard the buzz from the Right about the possibility of a raise in the retirement age to help offset the problems that some think the Social Security system has built into it.  The deficit is out of control, or so we are told daily by Repubs and their paid mouthpieces….and the only way to avoid a Greece like meltdown is for the American people to work longer and harder….this my friend is a piece of shit!

Workers and students are protesting Sarkozy’s planned two-year increase in the retirement age, with a corresponding increase in the pay-in period, contained in a pension “reform” bill passed by lawmakers despite overwhelming popular opposition. Polls show 71 percent of the population support strike activity against the cuts.

The expansion of the strikes and protests, far from being spearheaded by the unions, is being carried out overwhelmingly at the initiative of the workers themselves. In the face of this rising confrontation, prominent union officials are indicating that, once the bill is passed by the Senate, they will scale back or seek to end the strikes and protests.  (shows whose side the unions are really on)

At least the French are not rolling over and playing dead for the government….okay this action may be extreme but at least they are doing something to show the pricks in office that they will not stand for the continuing fucking of the working people.

The US is serving the special interests…….special interests and big business get favor after favor and are treated like the Golden Child, while the middle class gets zilch!  And then the Tea Party, the movement of the people (not now!….where is their outrage over the mistreatment of the middle class?  Easy answer…it is controlled by big business and special interests…regardless of what the paid spokespeople say…you know those  like Beck and Palin and Limbaugh and FOX News…….if you work hard then be prepared for the fucking coming and it will hurt!

Have you bothered to notice that most conservs blame the working class for all the problems that the country is having….it is SS fault…it is the unemployment benefits….it is the roads….it is Medicare….it is…well you get the point…..ALWAYS it is those who actually work that are the drag on the economy….nothing about the dick suckers on Wall Street that have done NOTHING but destroy the industrial base in this country….but yet they are somehow held up as the creme de la creme of America…..it you smell something offensive…it is the massive pile of horseshit they are force feeding to the American people…..how does it taste, douche bag?

Americans need to grow nuts and do something similar.  Instead of waiting every couple of years and voting for the carbon copy asshole with some cute slogans and NO real plans……

Why should the American worker get fucked constantly while the pricks in the corporation get massive bonuses and the government holds their hands and assist their failing companies?  Why should Americans put there retirement on hold while those dickheads on Wall Street have to give up NOTHING to save the country from financial ruin?

Why not make the retirement age 85 or 90 that way the poor bastards can work until they drop dead…and the government gets to keep all the cash to help bail out the scum bags on Wall Street?

The French workers are pushing the envelope a bit, but at least they will go down fighting for their right to retire on their terms and will not let the government continuously fuck the working class out of their right to retire and enjoy what is left of their lives……

If the American people are stupid enough, and it appears they are, to elect these motherfuckers, then they deserve everything they get and all their bitching will just help me laugh a little louder………..go ahead….piss away your chance at a real good retirement…one that you can actually enjoy…..go ahead sit on your collective fat asses and lose all that you have worked for at the hands of the buttfuckers you elect…….if you want to call me a socialist or a communist then by all means shoot your wad….I have been called worse by much better people……

By all means……vote your anger!  Vote for the crop of mental midgets that have the media all a twitter……..vote for the goddamn boneheads that would not know good government if it bit them in the ass……By all means….vote your anger!  And sit back and watch how pissed up you can make this country…..by all means….vote your damn anger!

How Not To Have A Lasting Peace

There are ways to go about negotiating for a peaceful end to hostilities….and these are NOT on that list anywhere….a couple of things have occurred since the collapse of the latest attempt at a peaceful solution on the Pal/Israeli conflict that has gone on and on and….for over 60 years….

First, from the mouth of a Fattah (that is Palestinian group, if you were confused)….

Mahmoud Aloul, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, said that Israel’s “racist policies” were meant to undermine the peace process.

“The Palestinian Authority made every effort to avoid reaching this conclusion, but Israeli racist policies led to the failure of the peace process,” he added.PLO negotiators Saeb Erekat and Nabil Sha’ath also reiterated their refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. Another PLO official, Yasser Abed Rabbo, accused Netanyahu of seeking to destroy the image of US President Barack Obama in the Middle East by raising such a demand

Then the president of the Pal Authority made this comment:

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas that under no circumstances would the PA sign an agreement with Israel which required the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state or a land swap.

“The PA recognized Israel’s existence in 1993, and now Israel needs to recognize the Palestinian state in line with the 1967 borders,”  Abbas said during a meeting in Ramallah with Knesset members from the left-wing party Hadash.

Abbas clarified that the PA would exhibit flexibility regarding the nature of the negotiations, but added that they would not negotiate on issues the Palestinian people consider principal matters.  (where does he get his figures?)

After all the jaw flapping by both sides and so far we got nothing!  Pals die….Israelis die….and all the time they play a blame game……this makes me want to ask….ARE YOU F*CKERS REALLY WANTING PEACE?

If you have been listening to the news then you are aware that there is some shenanigans going on with people’s mortgages….and the game is all about the foreclosures….not the rescue of the homeowners home…..if you have a mortgage it might be a good idea to keep an eye on what is happening behind your back….

Lecture #7

I recently wrote a thing on what are “traditional values”, at least to the American people….I found that not many people thought of the concepts that I had, which were Liberty, Freedom and Equality….I got lots of anti-abortion or anti-gay or immigration, both sides of the spectrum….all, in my opinion, are emotional issues and not what I would categorize as a “traditional value”….with this done I got to thinking about what use to be called “Core Values”….those values that people think are the essence of the American democracy…..I spent a couple of weeks talking with college students at a local Jr. college…the ones taking American Gov 101…..their answer were a bit surprising, at least in my mind……I did NOT ask what political leanings they had…I wanted to get a honest non-partisan answer……what I found in my survey….

The students say these are the core values…..as they see them…..

Democracy…but they were not sure why….

Patriotism….loyalty to the country and the flag…but few said they would join the military right now…or even mentioned American exceptionalism

Freedom….they say we have freedom of speech, movement, and that of achievement……

Charity…..to help those who need help

There were some others but they were not important….these were the most common answers…..but what I found missing were the exclusion of religion and equality….only 1 out of 25 said equality and no one mentioned religion, at all……

If something is to be a ‘core belief’ then it has to be a standardized list…these would be the issues that the country stands for and fights for when a fight is necessary.  If you belief that society is organic, by that I mean ever changing, does that mean that values and so-called ‘rights’ are ever changing?  Or is it necessary for the ‘core values’ to remain the same so that the country has a foot in reality?
