Random Thoughts For A Saturday

I admit it….I do not have enough to do a complete post so I will do a piecemeal post…..

Saturday and thoughts are raging….watching a hurricane…….

First, a bit of the political…..People wonder why I am so hard on Trump supporters….well this is one reason…..

A meme has been spreading around Facebook and Twitter that shows a man, purportedly a Trump supporter, claiming that former President Barack Obama resigned in 2016 because he knew he would lose to Donald Trump.

I know, we are laughing too.

Here is the tweet that started it all:

A user named Tyler said, “Obama was too scared to run against trump because he knew trump would destroy him. That’s why Obama retired.”

Down here in the Deep South we have a couple of poisonous spiders…the Black Widow and the Brown Recluse….,and there is where this post picks up……

That swishing sound in Susie Torres’ ear sounded like water. Maybe it was caused by a recent allergy shot, she thought. The slight pain didn’t let up, so she decided to have her ear examined after work. A medical assistant had one look and went for help, KSHB reports. As she left the room, she said, per People, “I think you have an insect in there.” Two nurses, three medical students, and a doctor arrived, per CNN. It took the doctor several tries, but the troublemaker was removed from Torres’ ear: It was a brown recluse spider, whose bites carry a venomous fluid. “The nurses said it was dead,” the Kansas City woman said later, “but they might’ve just said that so I wouldn’t freak out.”

The spider came out in one piece, and it hadn’t bitten her. The brown recluse usually stays outdoors, the CDC says, but can also be found in dark closets, shoes, and attics. A bite usually only happens if it’s trapped against a person’s skin. A bite can cause a severe lesion, which needs medical attention. Torres was calm during the episode, but conceded, “I’m pretty terrified of spiders.” She’s taking no chances now, especially at bedtime. “I went and put some cotton balls in my ear last night,” Torres said.

I have heard about roaches in ears but a spider is a first……

EEEEeeewwwwwwwww

For as long as I can remember there has been tales of the monster of Loch Ness….so far there is no proof that such a beastie exist…..so how do we explain the tales?

A new study may have an answer for us…..

Scientists failed to find Nessie in a study of Scotland’s Loch Ness—but they did come up with a possible explanation for more than 1,000 reported sightings of the mythical monster, including 14 this year, per the Mirror. Unfortunately, we don’t yet know the details. The findings, to be announced Aug. 29, come after an international team sequenced environmental DNA from 250 water samples, per the New Zealand Herald.

The BBC reports “about 500 million sequences … have now been analyzed against existing databases” in an effort to catalog all animal and plant life within Loch Ness. “There are around four main explanations about what has been seen” and “our research essentially discounts most of those theories,” says geneticist Neil Gemmell of New Zealand’s University of Otago. Tantalizingly, he adds: “However, one theory remains plausible.

Remember last week’s mash up on Greenland?

Well the US will soon open a consulate on the island……

The U.S. reportedly plans to open a consulate in Greenland for the first time in decades amid President Trump’s interest in the island.

The State Department, in a letter to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee obtained by The Associated Press on Friday, said the move to reopen the consulate in Greenland’s capital of Nuuk was part of a larger plan to increase American presence in the Arctic.

The U.S. has a “strategic interest in enhancing political, economic, and commercial relationships across the Arctic region,” the letter said.

It also reportedly said a permanent presence would permit the U.S. to “protect essential equities in Greenland while developing deeper relationships with Greenlandic officials and society.”

The letter stated that the consulate would be “a critical component of our efforts to increase U.S. presence in the Arctic and would serve as an effective platform to advance U.S. interests in Greenland.”

How much will this gimmick cost the American taxpayer?

And that is it for a Saturday

Sad News For A Saturday

I regret that I must report on yet another death of a US soldier in Afghanistan……

A U.S. service member died in combat Thursday in Afghanistan a little over a week after two Army Green Berets were killed by enemy small-arms fire.

A statement from Operation Resolute Support officials in Kabul did not identify the service member or branch of service. Pentagon policy mandates that names of personnel killed are not released until 24 hours after the next of kin are notified.

This latest casualty marks the 15th service member to die in combat in Afghanistan in 2019, which has become the deadliest year since the U.S. formally ended combat operations in 2014.

It is to for the candidates to answer question on the policies and the wars we are fighting….too many fine Americans have given their lives.

Closing Thought–30Aug19

I have been giving my opinions on the Dem candidates for the 2020 nomination……one that does not register well right now is Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota…..

I am not keen on the candidates that state that they will not end our endless wars……and Klobuchar has stated that she would keep US troops in Afghanistan if elected…..

Like other Democrats running for president, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar believes it’s time for American troops fighting in the nearly two-decade-long war in Afghanistan to come home. But she’s also open to keeping a limited U.S. military presence in the country.

“You could always have training footprints and people working there ready to go if there is a complete upsurge,” Klobuchar said on “Face the Nation” Sunday. “But I think that you have to make sure that this country can function on their own.”

The U.S. currently has about 14,000 troops in the country, but President Trump has signaled he wants a major drawdown as soon as possible, given the seemingly intractable nature of the conflict. Foreign policy hawks in his own party, like staunch ally Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, have urged Mr. Trump to maintain a “robust” military presence in Afghanistan for national security purposes.

Although she also supports withdrawing most U.S. forces from the country, Klobuchar stressed that the U.S. government needs to secure a lasting and balanced agreement with the Taliban that ensures the recent social and political reforms in Afghanistan continue.

“You want to make sure a lot of the gains we made with women in government and the democracy gains that we made in Afghanistan stay the same,” she said. “But yes, I think we need to start bringing our troops home.”

(wcbi.com)

This is a cop out….many say basically the same thing which is political-speak for the status quo will remain….plus her statement….”to protect the gains…..”  What gains?

Women are still treated like crap……democracy is only in and around the capital Kabul…..again what gains?

My loyalty lies with the candidate that has stated that she will bring the troops home….as a soldier that has served in a war zone I take her at her word.

Biden’s New Gaff

It is my considerable opinion that the media is doing all they can to keep Biden in the voters mind and keeping him protected as much as possible.

Yes the man is famous for his numerous gaff (lies) but one of his best was made just recently….

Joe Biden has been under fire for gaffes on the campaign trail, but the Washington Post is out with a report about an inaccuracy of a whole different order. It seems that Biden likes to tell a story about how, as vice president, he shrugged off the risk of danger, traveled to Afghanistan, and pinned the Silver Star on a Navy captain who had rappelled down a ravine under enemy fire to retrieve the body of a fellow soldier. “He said, ‘Sir, I don’t want the damn thing!’” Biden told an audience in New Hampshire Friday night. “‘Do not pin it on me, Sir! Please, Sir. Do not do that! He died. He died!'” Moving stuff, and the “God’s truth,” says Biden. But then comes this devastating critique from Matt Viser and Greg Jaffe of the Post: “Almost every detail in the story appears to be incorrect.”

They interviewed more than a dozen troops, commanders, and Biden campaign officials, concluding that it “appears as though the former vice president has jumbled elements of at least three actual events into one story of bravery, compassion and regret that never happened.” For example, Biden did visit Afghanistan—as a senator, not as VP, and he pinned no medals on anyone during the trip. The service member who performed the heroism described by Biden was a young Army specialist, not an older Navy vet, and Biden never pinned a medal on him. President Obama did, though it was the Medal of Honor. As VP, Biden did pin a medal on a service member who didn’t think he deserved it, but it was a Bronze Star, and it went to an Army staff sergeant who tried unsuccessfully to rescue a comrade from a burning Humvee

I have listen to the pundits say Biden is just being Biden or that it was 3 stories put together to make a point, etc etc.

It is a LIE no matter how you want to cut it Biden lied and exaggerated to win hearts and minds….if 3 parts are a lie then the whole damn thing is a LIE!

If it is not FACT then it is a LIE!

It is that simple!

The President lies well go but that does NOT make Biden’s LIE any less a LIE!

The media is brutal on everyone else about exaggerations and lies….but not Biden….why is that?

Listen to the MSM sugar coat this lie while calling out others…that is a prime example.

I have bitched lots about the MSM and the way they are making the case for the nomination of Biden….this illustrates how far they will go to protect Biden’s place in the polls, in the voter’s mind and the headlines.

DO NOT let the media tell you who is your candidate…

Those Damn Dem Centrists!

2020 election is in the wings and all efforts are being played.

Pundits are screaming for a centrist candidate for the Dems…..a centrist will be inclined to protect the corporations that own the news these days.

Personally, I do not think centrtists do anything to help the situation…they are more likely to feed the partisan BS that has crippled this country for damn near 4 decades.

Let me illustrate my opposition…..

https://lobotero.com/2011/06/27/centrist-vs-independent/

https://lobotero.com/2014/07/29/centrists-the-bane-of-politics/

Who are the centrists?

For those that are not sure who is who in the Democratic field….watch for their election strategy…..

I hate the term “centrists”…….. they are “corporatists”…… meaning they will do what it takes to keep corporations in control of government…..

In his book Failed States, preeminent linguist Noam Chomsky described the significant gap between the policy positions of the U.S. electorate and their elected “leaders” as a “democracy deficit.” That gap, he concluded, is the product of the deceptive manner in which “elections are skillfully managed to avoid issues and marginalize the underlying population…freeing the elected leadership to serve the substantial people.”

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/08/08/step-one-closing-democracy-deficit-stop-referring-corporatists-centrists-or

What is this strategy?

Democrats voting strategy: 1). Vote blue, no matter who   2). Refuse to discuss voting records, donor history   3). Yell at anyone discussing voting records, donor history   4). Refuse to support any progressive candidates   5). Wonder why Trump wins re-election   6). Repeat in 2024……. 2028.

It is a false allure of centrism that the MSM is pushing on the viewing public……

Nancy Pelosi is worried about 2020. As, of course, is every Democrat, but Pelosi has an analysis of the challenge the party faces that is striking in how tentative it sounds, even frightened. Here’s what she told The New York Times over the weekend:

Sitting in her office with its panoramic view of the National Mall, Ms. Pelosi—the de facto head of the Democratic Party until a presidential nominee is selected in 2020—offered Democrats her “coldblooded” plan for decisively ridding themselves of Mr. Trump: Do not get dragged into a protracted impeachment bid that will ultimately get crushed in the Republican-controlled Senate, and do not risk alienating the moderate voters who flocked to the party in 2018 by drifting too far to the left.

“Own the center left, own the mainstream,” Ms. Pelosi, 79, said.

It wasn’t that long ago that Pelosi was supposed to epitomize the left’s radicalism, a “San Francisco liberal” who filled every heartland American with rage and disgust. Now she’s telling the Democratic Party that the path to victory is by limiting conflict with Donald Trump and offering a sedate policy centrism.

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/05/06/fearful-democrats-and-false-allure-policy-centrism

If you want more of the same from your Dems then vote for those damn centrists…..Biden, Mayor Pete, Harris, Booker, etc etc…….and please stop attaching the “progressive” label to these corporate toadies.

Yemen: More Confusion Within Confusion

The war on Yemen by the Saudis and the UAE have been raging for years…..causing much devastation and death as well as a huge humanitarian crisis.

Recently I read some good news, at least I thought it was, about the UAE’s position in this war…..

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) may have finally learned what Washington will not: that armed interventions with ambiguous aims, unreliable allies, and no exit strategy are doomed to disaster.

Such interventions will rapidly deplete a nation of its blood and treasure while yielding an abundance of dangerous second- and third-order consequences. That’s why, after four years of fighting, the UAE announced that it is withdrawing a significant percentage of its forces from Yemen. It will now pursue a “peace first” strategy as opposed to a “military first” strategy.

The narrative around the UAE’s withdrawal from Yemen has been carefully managed in the American media with the help of some sympathetic Washington-based think-tanks. The shift in policy has been cast as a “mission accomplished” moment for the UAE. But the UAE is getting out of Yemen not because it is winning—or has won—but because the country’s leadership understands they cannot win.

Why the UAE Cut Their Losses and Pulled Out of Yemen

So twenty days later I read that UAE is still involved and killing civilians in Yemen…..

An estimated 20,000 fighters involved in the Saudi-led invasion of Yemen split in half earlier this month, with half backed by the UAE and a separatist movement, and the other half Saudi-backed forces loyal to the Hadi government.

That fighting has raged, but the Saudis and UAE had talked of working something out. Thursday suggests the chances of a deal are shrinking, with the UAE getting directly involved in the fighting, and launching airstrikes against Saudi-backed government forces.

The UAE confirmed its involvement in the airstrikes, saying it was engaged in self defense of its forces, as well as civilians threatened by “terrorist militias,” and insisting it was in keeping with international law.

Yemen’s President Hadi, however, is angry with the “blatant aerial bombardment,” and is calling for the UN Security Council to hold a session. Hadi also called on the Saudis to directly intervene militarily against the UAE.

Saudi officials haven’t addressed that possibility, but historic closeness to the UAE makes it unlikely. Still, this could mean a third war-within-a-war for Yemen.

As my grandmother use to say…..”Clear as mud”…..

Only thing to say about Yemen is that there is nothing good to say about the war on Yemen…

Federalist Paper #29

Just my little op-ed on the gun debate that was raging but has since been pushed aside for other sensationalism….chuq

Gulf South Free Press

I have waited for a long time to see if all these so-called scholars would hit upon something from the days of our founding as a country.

Now we have had another round of violence and the result is the usual reaction. The rash of shootings and the debate and opinion spewed on guns is running full tilt boogie….as usual lots of talk and no action…..the same talk that has been raging for decades….the same inaction…the same lip service.

I recently wrote a piece that I said would be my last word on guns….well no surprise….I LIED!

But before those gun nuts hiding in the ink of blogs let me assure you that this is just a reminder of what a Founding Father had to say about guns. Remember this is what a Founder wrote……a historic document…..Federalist Paper No. 29……not me!

THE power of regulating the militia, and of commanding…
