These Tactics Not Acceptable

Closing Thought–08Aug19

So much ink, so many words, and so much emotions have been spilled over the so-called “illegal aliens” in this country.

We all have heard the horror stories about children in cages….or the myth of the freebie seekers…..or the criminals …….so much and in it all is ICE who are starting to act like a Gestapo-esque group under this president.

The newest “round-up” was in Mississippi……

US immigration officials raided numerous Mississippi food processing plants Wednesday, arresting 680 mostly Latino workers in what marked the largest workplace sting in at least a decade, the AP reports. The raids, planned months ago, happened just hours before President Trump was scheduled to visit El Paso, Texas, the majority-Latino city where a man linked to an online screed about a “Hispanic invasion” was charged in a shooting that left 22 people dead in the border city. Workers filled three buses—two for men and one for women—at a Koch Foods Inc. plant in tiny Morton, 40 miles east of Jackson. They were taken to a military hangar to be processed for immigration violations. About 70 family, friends and residents waved goodbye and shouted, “Let them go! Let them go!” Later, two more buses arrived.

A tearful 13-year-old boy whose parents are from Guatemala waved goodbye to his mother, a Koch worker, as he stood beside his father. About 600 agents fanned out across the plants involving several companies, surrounding the perimeters to prevent workers from fleeing. The raids occurred in small towns near Jackson with a workforce made up largely of Latino immigrants, including Bay Springs, Carthage, Canton, Morton, Pelahatchie and Sebastapol. Some employees tried to flee on foot but were caught in the parking lot. Workers who were confirmed to have legal status were allowed to leave the plant after having their trunks searched. “It was a sad situation inside,” said Domingo Candelaria, a legal resident and Koch worker who said authorities checked employees’ identification documents.

The companies involved are the same companies that were getting slave labor from local state prisons…..so now what penalties do these companies face or are they considered guiltless?

This situation with ICE should be unacceptable to all Americans….to turn a blind eye is a vote of approval ofm thism heavy handed BS of the Trump policies.

Africa Goes To War

World War One, the Great War saw the deaths of millions and the destruction of much…….Africa was not spared the carnage.

There is many ways to explain what happened….none do the events justice…..

Sparked in the Balkans as a result of European nationalism and imperial rivalries, the first world war raged from July 1914 to November 1918. It pitted the 48 million soldiers of the Allies – led by the French, British and Russian empires – against the 26 million soldiers of the Central Powers – led by the German, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires, who lost the war.

https://theconversation.com/world-politics-explainer-the-great-war-wwi-100462

07 August 1914 the shooting war began and on the 8th of August 1914 the war moved to East Africa.

A hundred years ago on this day, on August 8th, 1914, the British HMS Asteria and Pegasus protected cruisers bombed Dar-es-Salaam, then the capital of German East Africa, bringing the European so-called “war to end all wars” to the eastern African shores. The day before, Anglo-French forces constituted of Ghanaian, Nigerian, Sierra Leonean, Gambian and Beninese troops had invaded German Togoland in West Africa.
Among World War I campaigns, the East African one was the longest of all: as the armistice was being signed in Europe on November, 11th 1918, the last of the German forces were still fighting their British counterparts. Indeed the general who led them only surrendered two weeks later, on November, 25th 1918.

But who knows any of this, whether in America, in Europe or indeed in Africa? As the world commemorates the Centenary of the Great War, the African side of this story remains a footnote, despite huge losses of human lives and major consequences for the future of the African continent.

A million people died in East Africa alone during World War I. Many Africans also fought in Europe, defending the interests of their colonial masters. Today, their sacrifice has been largely forgotten.

I have studied this conflict for years and still having a hard time deciding if it was worth it or not……I say….NOT.

Then World War One and North Africa…..

All the carnage should have taught the world a valuable lesson….but instead it just laid the ground work for World War Two……so lightning can strike in the same place more than once.

My Take On Gun Violence (Again)

I have written my thoughts about the debate and the violence around guns….and once again I need to make my thoughts known after a bloody weekend last.

A few of the posts I have written about the gun violence culture we live within…..

https://lobotero.com/2013/09/17/gun-vioence-here-we-go-again/

https://lobotero.com/2017/11/14/god-country-guns/

https://lobotero.com/2014/03/14/happiness-is-a-warm-gun-2/

https://lobotero.com/2019/06/01/seriously-again/

Like I said…just a small selection of my thoughts and posts on the subject of gun violence….

After last weekend I feel I need to repeat myself on guns and violence.

I will begin by saying I am pro gun…I have many guns….but I also see the need for some sort of definitive action to try and put the brakes on this spiral of violence that we are living.

Tuesday night panic broke out in NYC because of a motorcycle backfire…..watch the video here….

The mass shootings over the weekend in El Paso and Dayton have everyone on edge, and that anxiety played out Tuesday night in New York City after a loud sound sent people running. ABC News reports that thousands of locals and tourists in Times Square started screaming and fleeing in panic around 10pm when several motorcycles cruising through the area suddenly backfired, making people think weapons had been fired. “All of a sudden I heard this kind of muffled pop and said, ‘What was that,’ and I looked over and there was just a sea of people running,” one bystander tells WABC.

Some people sought shelter in nearby stores, as well as in other buildings. One place that people rushed into: the nearby Shubert Theatre, where To Kill a Mockingbird starring Jeff Daniels is enjoying its current run. “Screaming civilians tried to storm our theater for safety,” cast member Gideon Glick tweeted afterward. “The audience started screaming and the cast fled the stage. This is the world we live in. This cannot be our world.” Vulture notes police were able to tamp down the theater’s chaos, which interrupted a performance of the play, within a few minutes. The FDNY says nine people were treated for minor injuries after the incident.

WATCH: Video Shows Panic in Times Square Over Active Shooter Fear

Fear has taken hold of the American people.

It is partly because of the 24 hour news cycle….every channel has never ending coverage of each shooting….some reports last weeks with a continuous loop to the violence….people are starting to fear for their lives….keep in mind the attention span of most Americans is 30-45 seconds.

Was this a good thing?

Depends on how one cares to look at it.

This could force the spineless Congress to actually get something done….or it will just keep the people hiding in the closet waiting for the government to do something to protect them….and they will wait.

Or we could listen to those that blame everything but the person doing the shooting….they blame video games…..they blame the internet….they blame cell phones for rotting their brains….they blame so much and have so little proof that any of it is responsible….but yet the free acquisition of firearms does have its proof.

I mean think about it….does anyone need a semi auto rifle with a 100 round magazine to defend their home?  I they cannot shoot any better than that then buy a damn shotgun and your ineptitude with a gun can be overcome.

I blame the MSM for the panic the American people….their look into every aspect of a shooters life and family does little to solve the violence problem.  And the forced debate by the MSM does nothing as well.

We have had decades of lip service…..and decades of violence…..the so-called “debate” has accomplished nothing.

So what will this latest act of domestic violence bring forth?

Gun violence debate is just about as worthless as the so-called race debate….lots of lip service with NO action.

Our leader is not innocent in the BS……

I am concerned about the rise of any group of hate, I don’t like it,” he told reporters. “Any group of hate, whether it’s white supremacy, whether it’s any other kind of supremacy, whether it’s antifa. Whether it’s any group of hate.”

“I am very concerned about it and I’ll do something about it.”

(Mother Jones)

Less than 24 hours later he is back to demonizing someone….matters not who just know that it is someone that has made him pout.

So far Donald Trump has attacked: – Mayor of Dayton – Beto O’Rourke – Sherrod Brown – Joe Biden – CNN – Shepard Smith – Fox News – “LameStream media” – New York Times

His action and words are all too predictable.

$15 Minimum Wage

This from my opinion blog….Gulf South Free Press….chuq

Gulf South Free Press

One of the biggest issues for 2020 and onward is the possibility to raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour.  Since most jobs created by this “booming” economy are minimum wage jobs and mostly in the service industry.

The CBO has issued its finding on the raise of the minimum wage…….

A Congressional Budget Office analysis published Monday showed that raising the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025 would significantly increase pay for over 27 million workers and lift 1.3 million people—including hundreds of thousands of children—out of poverty.

The CBO also found that more than doubling the federal minimum wage would boost the income of families earning less than three times the poverty rate by nearly $22 billion.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/07/09/cbo-analysis-shows-15-federal-minimum-wage-would-raise-pay-27-million-workers-and

The federal minimum wage in the United States is only $7.25 per hour. It hasn’t seen a meaningful boost in this required amount for more…

Nuclear Push Shove

With all the problems this silly world has it gets more tense when two nuclear powers confront each other……I am talking about India and Pakistan (Do not forget China) in the Kashmir region of the Himalayas…..

India’s government revoked disputed Kashmir’s special status with a presidential order Monday as thousands of newly deployed troops arrived and internet and phone services were cut in the restive Himalayan region where most people oppose Indian rule. Home Minister Amit Shah announced the revocation amid an uproar in India’s Parliament and while Kashmir was under a security lockdown that kept thousands of people inside their homes. The order revokes Article 370 of India’s Constitution, which the AP reports gives the state of Jammu and Kashmir its own constitution and decision-making rights for all matters except for defense, communications, and foreign affairs. The article also forbids Indians outside the state from permanently settling, buying land, holding local government jobs, and securing educational scholarships.

Critics of India’s Hindu nationalist-led government see the move as an attempt to dilute the demographics of Muslim-majority Kashmir with Hindu settlers. The announcement came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a Cabinet meeting and the government’s top-decision making body on security matters, the Cabinet Committee on Security, which he heads. Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and both claim the region in its entirety. Two of the three wars India and Pakistan have fought since their independence from British rule were over Kashmir. Pakistan’s foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, told a Pakistani TV station that Pakistan will step up diplomatic efforts to prevent the order from taking effect. “India is playing a very dangerous game by changing the status of Kashmir through illegal acts,” he said.

So far the Chinese are not part of this dust up (or are they?)

What is all the hard feelings about?

A short video to help you understand this conflict….

It seems that this conflict never really goes away for when things calm down someone heats it up just as fast.

Pakistan has asked Trump to intervene…..

Tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir have the potential to blow up into a regional crisis and it is the right time for U.S. President Donald Trump to mediate, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Sunday.

Khan’s comments come a day after Pakistan accused India of using illegal cluster bombs, killing two civilians and wounding 11, in the disputed Kashmir region. India denied it had used such weapons.

“President Trump offered to mediate on Kashmir. This is the time to do so as situation deteriorates there and along the LOC(line of control) with new aggressive actions being taken by Indian occupation forces,” Khan said on Twitter, referring to the heavily militarised de facto border that divides the two parts of Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

“This has the potential to blow up into a regional crisis,” Khan said.

India’s foreign affairs ministry and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Khan’s remarks.

(Japan Today)

Maybe Pakistan’s new found friendship with Trump gives them some sort of “get out of jail free” card…..I do not think our beloved leader has the props to broker a deal for a peaceful end.

India has made its move…..

Always a restive territory, the Indian-administered portion of Kashmir is expected to see a huge upsurge in disquiet following Monday’s move by India’s Hindu nationalist government to permanently revoke Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted Kashmir broad autonomy.

Under Article 370, Kashmir was allowed almost total self-governance, beyond military and foreign affairs. The revocation not only eliminates this, but will allow Hindu settlers to buy land, permanently settle in Kashmir, and hold local government positions.

This is seen by many as the major point, as India’s government has long struggled with independence ambitions in Muslim-dominated Kashmir, and may believe they can rapidly change the region’s demographics.

Constitutional experts are questioning the legality of this abrupt move, and a substantial legal challenge is expected to the government’s move, which comes amid an ongoing crackdown in the region.

Seems the nuclear world is once again ready to step on the accelerator….which is never a good idea.
