Of course you cannot……something about the selective memory of the American people….if you do then you probably look fondly back at all the Clinton policies that make life so much better than before……like NAFTA which would put money in the pockets of average Americans….or maybe his brilliant idea of repealing Glass-Steagall which would open up financial markets so that we all would benefit……how did all that work out for you?
We hear the candidate Hillary Clinton come out as a champion of the minority community…..she has said much that she will do to stop the discrimination, the brutality…..everything that the community wants to hear…..
My question is will she pursue the same policies as her prez hubby did?
I do not understand the support that the black community has for the Clinton’s….I remember when many people call Bill the US first black president…….why?
His programs did little to further the interests of the black community…..but yet they still support him and his wife……very confusing….
For instance his so-called welfare reform……it has done more damamge than good…….

Clinton’s success in transforming the welfare system shows how a leader can sometimes lose by winning. Clinton’s original plan was one part tough love and one part expanded resources. Able long-term welfare recipients would be compelled to work, but additional resources for job training, wage subsidy, and child care, as well as waivers in hardship cases, would make welfare reform an improvement on the lives of the poor, not just a cruel reduction in benefits. But the Republican majority in Congress was more interested in cutting the rolls. Clinton vetoed the proposed legislation twice before finally signing it based on only token improvements.
For Democrats as well as Republicans, the proof of success became the dramatic shrinkage of the welfare rolls, and not the more troubling question of how many of the poor were better or worse off. By embracing an essentially GOP version of welfare reform, Clinton reinforced conservative dogma that the welfare state was more of a problem than a solution.
What about Bill’s law and order stance?
Clinton signed into law an omnibus crime bill in 1994 that included the federal “three strikes” provision, mandating life sentences for criminals convicted of a violent felony after two or more prior convictions, including drug crimes. Clinton acknowledged that policy’s role in over-incarceration in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.
In essence he help create the overcrowding that we have now and the massive sentences for otherwise “minor” crimes……
And the list goes on…….Democrats have tried to forget or put behind them the problems that they themselves have caused…..and now someone who is proud of the “progress” of her husband’s administration is running for the very same office……I do not understand the appeal of Hillary from Afro-Americans. Bill help give them the income inequality, the massive prison population and the welfare reform that did more damage than good…….why is she so goddamn appealing to Afro-American voters?
What do they see that I am missing?
What are the chances that this will be a third term for Bubba if she is elected in this election?
It doesn’t matter at all; the purpose of a politician is to maintain the status quo, not to reform, no matter what they may spout off during an election. Making changes is not profitable…
That said, I think I can answer your question… I think most black Americans see them both as ‘white trash’, folks from their own wrong side of the tracks, who made good…. this gives them as certain panache in the black community, as they aren’t viewed as so much mainstream as other politicians who are more ‘white’ than trash….
Just a guess, but, makes sense, as much as anything else… It really matters little at all WHICH illusion they fall for, does it?…. Nope. They are all lies, and liars, and nobody will admit it, because they would have to admit they keep falling for it…
Mental laziness has become the defining characteristic of American voters, and the politicians not only know it, they count on it….
gigoid. the dubious
I just do not the understand the appeal for Clinton….chuq
Too many people willing to overlook her faults to say they aren’t discriminating against women…. Well, that, and the billions of dollars paving her path to the White House, where she can shill for the corporations with even more hypocrisy…
Simple….you can’t fix, etc…
gigoid
I have a ‘toon tomorrow that addresses this issue…..chuq
We may now be on the very verge of experiencing our first dual presidency with Hillary at the helm and ex-president Clinton advising in the background …. It may not happen that way of course …. I am speculating … I always speculate … fool that I am ….This may be the first time in history when we can exect to get a hefty double dose of what went before … all refined and modernized …. Imagine the new job-killing trade agreements we might get if s h e is elected. — Intriguing!
Nothing intriguing for…but rather scary….chuq
Another example of how a “successful” presidency is defined by those who benefitted from it. There has never been an attempt to improve the lives of EVERY AMERICAN from any politician. They all pander to their base, and nothing more.
So true……and the current crop does not really impress me either….chuq
I remember ALL that 90’s shit! Then again, I’m Canadian. 🙂
But to mock a current “movement” in The Twit Zone….Blacks Lives Don’t Matter! Blacks are a distinct minority. And only a minority of that minority actually vote. Obama Effect aside, I suspect more black males are “legally prevented” from voting than actually vote regularly.
Besides, who else are they going to vote for??? The 1990’s Presidential candidate, Pat Buchanan? (Well, not until Florida 2000 anyway) In the meantime, you win back some Dixiecrats and Reagan Democrats. There’s more of ’em and they vote in far greater numbers. Simple cold, hard, calculating, political math…that worked for them!
But let’s face it, did black folk expect any better treatment than this from America, especially one drifting to the Right? This is why the animosity to Clinton’s spouse just isn’t there. Oh, and then there’s this…..

All the history, facts, policies and other stuff people didn’t give a fuck about, even at that time…. It don’t mean Jack Fucking Squat when you got unforgettable imagery like this that appeals to a stupid, drooling, public seeking to be entertained.
And to be fair, it’s pretty damn powerful imagery. You’ve got a white southerner playing music made famous by another white souther widely derided for playing “nigger music”. And Clinton did this on the show of the first black late night talk show host, a guy who was “breaking new ground for his people”.
Going in reverse can often be remembered as “progress”.
No doubt his showmanship was good….his policy sucked!
What’s even worse is that he was “better” than the alternative…which, by now, is a very familiar tune! (Rim-shot please.)
A vote for dumb or dumber….still no way to pick a leader
‘Why is she so goddamn appealing to Afro-American voters’ ?
It’s the Blonde hair silly!
grin
LOL….nice one….chuq
Q: What does a blonde do when her laptop computer freezes?
A: She sticks it in the microwave!
I could go on….
grin
The problem was that the Clintons moved rightward to be conciliatory and try to meet the Republicans in the middle. But give em an inch and they took a mile – instead of meeting them in the middle, Republicans just moved further and further to the right, too. Then – presto – Bush comes in and we get into new wars…that happen to be in oil-rich areas!
The Clintons were the leader of the old “Blue Dog” Dems through their propaganda machine known as the DLC (now defunct)……just blue conservatives…..and yet they are loved by many minorities…..I just do not understand that loyalty….chuq
