For some time now there has been a call for those people in the Bush admin to stand for their decisions to invade Iraq…..to answer for the lies and misinformation……
There is a situation brewing in the UK that could be a template for any such investigation…..
Tony Blair should stand trial on charges of war crimes if the evidence suggests he broke international law over the “illegal” Iraq war in 2003, the Labour leadership frontrunner Jeremy Corbyn has said.
Corbyn called on the former prime minister to “confess” the understandings he reached with George W Bush in the run up to the invasion.
Asked on BBC Newsnight whether Blair should stand trial on war crimes charges, Corbyn said: “If he has committed a war crime, yes. Everybody who has committed a war crime should be.”
The veteran MP for Islington North was a high-profile opponent of the war and became a leading member of the Stop the War coalition. He said: “It was an illegal war. I am confident about that. Indeed Kofi Annan [UN secretary general at the time of the war] confirmed it was an illegal war and therefore [Tony Blair] has to explain to that. Is he going to be tried for it? I don’t know. Could he be tried for it? Possibly.”
Corbyn said he expects the eventual publication of the Chilcot report will force Blair to explain his discussions with President Bush in the runup to the war.
He said: “The Chilcot report is going to come out sometime. I hope it comes out soon. I think there are some decisions Tony Blair has got to confess or tell us what actually happened. What happened in Crawford, Texas, in 2002 in his private meetings with George [W] Bush. Why has the Chilcot report still not come out because – apparently there is still debate about the release of information on one side or the other of the Atlantic. At that point Tony Blair and the others that have made the decisions are then going to have to deal with the consequences of it.”

Please weigh in…….should those that lied us into war be held accountable?
Reblogged this on sachemspeaks.
Thanx again….nothing will come of this but it is a situation that needs to be looked over…..
And what makes you believe that they will tell the truth now?…
They lied then, they will lie again.
gigoid
And lie again…..
One of my main objections to President Obama has always been his failure to hold people accountable for getting us into the Iraq war. But you are right when you say nothing will happen at this juncture so my question becomes “If nothing is ever going to happen now what is the use of “Looking Into It?” Looking into it will be expensive and if “Looking into it” is not going to produce some productive course of action in holding people accountable then “Looking into it” will be a consummate waste of time because nobody is going to learn any lessons — We never learn lessons — we just repeat the same mistakes again somewhere down the line. All the talk in the world about “We must make sure this never happens again” is totally useless because whatever the thing is it is always bound to happen again because people do not learn — They forget — They numb themselves — They become desensitized — but they never truly learn the lessons needed to keep such things from happening again.
we never learn because we are not suppose to….once again the use of propaganda rules…..the government and the media work together to , as you say, desensitize….
If there are criminals they need to be found and an example made of them. But when do you expect any high-level American to ever be held accountable for anything? I think we need a new Watergate myself — but the more time passes the less likely anything will ever happen.
It is like anything in DC……what if I get call out on something…..every one trying to protect their legacy…..
Legacies that become more criminal with each day that passes without accountability.
I agree. John, this is the most comments from you in a long time….did you have “wheaties” this morning? LOL
I like your blog and I respect your opinions and I try to keep up with comments but I read a voluminous amount of blogs each day and it is difficult sometimes. I do not mean to slight you in any way if I miss a comment but I also am a prolific blogger myself and you know how the “Available Time” thing works, I am sure. It also helps that I type 120 words per minute. Sometimes my anxious fingers get far ahead of my fart-producing brain. Sometimes I get way behind.
I love it…I am always happy to have comments from you…..I type about 120 words a day….LOL
By the way … breakfast here is either a three-egg omelete followed by a ginseng capsule or it is bran flakes, bananas and milk. You are close with the “Wheaties” guess.
I have to have a big breakfast…the rest of the day just does not matter….comes from my Granny and her philosophy….
Have you heard the expression, “Full English Breakfast?”
Yep but when I was in the UK many years ago it was a muffin, a egg and some wrinkled little sausage that tasted like sweat.

No! No! The full English breakfast is more like:
Bacon and eggs any style plus fried tomatoes, fried mushrooms, toast with butter, sausages called “Bangers”, some hash-browned potatoes and a little black pudding on the side with coffee or tea as beverage.
This is the common “Full Breakfast” served in the London Area and The Liverpool Area but it varies from region to region.
Now that sounds more like a breakfast for me….LOL
