It is time to step back from the horrendous situation in the Middle East……maybe calmer heads will prevail…..but knowing both sides of the argument…..I doubt!
Every year that we have an election, and it seems to be a never ending cycle these days, we hear all about the independents…..and some times people want to talk about the centrists as the controllers of the election results……..many a pundit has tried to define who the centrists are and what they stand for…..mostly it has been pure imagination not facts that they base their analysis on……
To me a centrists is someone who has lost confidence their chosen political party and vote against it but do not want to be labeled so they pretend that they are centrists……I recent read a piece that sort of explains the swing in centrism…….I have noticed by talking with people that “centrists” seem to be leaning toward liberalism these days…..but why?
Reporter and author Thomas Ricks has long been what he would describe as a “detached centrist.” He’s also a big fan of the free market and a strong national defense, and he’s financially comfortable as he approaches the age of 60. Conventional wisdom might suggest that he should be “drifting into a cautious conservatism” right about now, but Hicks writes in Politico Magazine that he is as surprised as anyone to find himself shifting to the left instead. Among his reasons:
- Military: As the author of several books about the military, Ricks finds himself appalled at how badly our wars have been run in Afghanistan and Iraq, at the Pentagon’s use of torture, and at the employment of mercenaries and security contractors who have “poisoned the conduct of … war.”
- Intelligence: Hicks writes that he’s no great fan of Edward Snowden, but it’s clear now that “American intelligence officials have shown a contempt for the way our democracy is supposed to work.”
- Income inequality: Both parties are to blame for making the rich richer and the poor poorer, he writes. “Apparently income redistribution downward is dangerously radical, but redistribution upward is just business as usual.”

You would think that a party that really would like to govern would not see these trends and adjust their thinking to seem more viable…..but the modern GOP just cannot seem to break its old habits and because they cannot….they will not rule anytime soon.
Since they cannot break their antiquated chains the voter will be looking elsewhere and with our system you know what the means……Dems will win again!
Today is the centennial of the start of World War One….I will be posting on the subject all day in remembrance of the stupidity of war and its outcome….. I do hope my readers appreciate the day and will take a little time to remember those that fought and died in the Great War……and maybe think about the deception and lies that made modern day Middle East…..those lies have help create the situations that we face today…..

Today is 28 July 2014……..100 years ago today the world stood still and it would NEVER be the same again…..today was the start of the Great War or as it is called these days World War 1……..
The year is 1914….it is a warm day in Sarajevo in Serbia…..the Arch Duke Ferdinand of the Austria-Hungarian Empire, is on a state visit and a group of “anarchists” shoot and kill the Duke….it is June 28, 1914…….
Lots of whys and whats and whens….lots of backs and forths……and on July 28, 1914 one month after the assassination of the Archduke, Austria-Hungarian Empire declares war on Serbia….and with that declaration a whole series of events and alliances began forming ……
In less than a month just about every “kingdom” on the European continent had chose a side and the blood letting began……the only “power” that stayed out of the fray was the US…..but that was short lived for in 1917 the US declares war on Germany…..and off we go to fight in a war to end all wars (at least that is what most thought….silly of them)…..and in 5 years of war there were in the neighborhood of 39,000,000 casualties, that is KIA, WIA and MIA……
New technology was introduced to the battlefield during this war….chemical weapons, tanks, a flame thrower, machine guns…..all in all a proving ground for wars to come…..and we have certainly learned our lessons well…….
Mercifully the Great War ended officially on June 28, 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles…….and there was a call of “never again”…..which lasted about 20 years before the world started lining up again and once that started it was only a matter of time……and a little over 20 years we were at it again…….another waste of human life.
Take a little time out of your busy schedule and think about the men who went to war 100 years ago today….and pray that we are never that stupid again! But sadly….we were!

To put it one way, small doses of hydrogen sulfide help keep cells healthy and thus help ward off maladies such as dementia, diabetes, and even cancer. To put it another way, “smelling farts could be the best thing you do today,” as per CNET. As the Independent explains, researchers at the University of Exeter discovered that while hydrogen sulfide—the stuff produced in the gut that causes gas—is toxic in large doses, it’s actually quite beneficial in smaller ones. Specifically, it preserves mitochondria, which are vital to cell life.
“Although hydrogen sulfide is well known as a pungent, foul-smelling gas in rotten eggs and flatulence, it is naturally produced in the body and could in fact be a health care hero with significant implications for future therapies for a variety of diseases,” say the Exeter scientists. They’re not asking people to sniff appropriately. Rather, they’ve developed a compound called AP39 designed to deliver just the right dose of the stuff to cells. Studies on actual humans come next, but in the meantime, it might pay to thank that guy in the elevator for saving your life, writes Laura Stamper at Time. “Or not.” (In related news, an opera singer’s ill-timed flatulence led to a lawsuit.)

I recall a couple of years ago I read a report about all the “junk”, plastic and crap, that is floating around our fragile oceans…….one report said there was a huge floating island in the Pacific made up of plastic and stuff and that it would eventually make it to the US west Coast……

Newser) – Millions of tons of plastic thought to be floating around the world’s oceans have gone missing. But that’s not the good news one might think. According to a new study, marine animals could be ingesting our garbage, reports the Verge. Up to 99% of the most microscopic plastic particles in the ocean is missing, says a study co-author. Science Mag reports that they went looking for it between 2010 and 2011 around five large ocean gyres—the most famous such island of waste is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch—and augmented their search with studies of 3,070 samples from other expeditions, according to LiveScience. What did they find? That there is at most 40,000 tons of plastic in our oceans, even though humans produce 300 million tons of plastic a year, and 0.1% of that ends up in the oceans via rivers, floods, storms, or ships, says Science Mag.
The ocean’s plastics are microscopic—ground to tiny pieces by waves and solar radiation until it looks like fish food. A scientist not associated with the study says it’s “indisputable” that lanternfish and other small fish are eating the plastic—and it’s impossible to know exactly how much. These small fish, which are likely ingesting toxins like DDT, PCBs, or mercury, are then gobbled by commercial fish. “We are part of this food web,” says a study co-author. Scientists say further research is needed, especially since estimates about how much plastic is entering the ocean is 50 years old. (Some of our plastic is even turning into rocks.)
