Okay I will admit it!  I watch the History Channel and the show “Ancient Aliens”…..NO i am not one of those that think everything in the past was some how controlled by aliens from the mist…..I do enjoy the archeology behind the show……and some of the questions they ask are fairly valid…..

I am always searching for some strange and interesting stories that I can add to the mood of this site…..and some times Ancient aliens and reality cross paths…and that is when a good post is arriving…..the other day I read a story and …BAM!  Ancient Aliens came to mind.

In one of the episodes they reported on a theory…..the theory of Hollow Earth…….

Hollow Earth Theories always propose a central sun, aliens, and mythical subterranean cities and civilizations that some believe could link science and pseudoscience if physically discovered. Glaciers at both the Arctic and Antarctic regions are melting down at an accelerated rate, which will reveal the truth behind this mystery and its metaphoric connections to other creation myths in the story of humanity’s journey on plant Earth.

According to the Hollow Earth Hypothesis, planet Earth is either wholly hollow or otherwise contains a substantial interior space. The hypothesis has long been contradicted by overwhelming observational evidence, as well as by the modern understanding of planet formation; the scientific community has dismissed the notion since at least the late 18th century.

The concept of a hollow Earth still recurs in folklore and as the premise for a sub-genre of adventure fiction. It also features in some present-day pseudoscientific and conspiracy theories.

Underground civilizations link with the ‘Hollow Earth Theory’. There are supposedly races that exist in subterranean cities beneath planet Earth. Very often, these dwellers of the world beneath are more technologically advanced than we on the surface. Some believe that UFOs are not from other planets, but are manufactured by strange beings in the interior of the Earth.

Sounds whacky?

Some of history’s greatest minds believed in it……people like Edmond Haley and the Thule Society and Adm. Byrd, who is said to have found the opening and flew into it back in the 1940’s…..of course, these were all proven to be fiction….but yet there are still some that believe.

Now this story may give the believers new ammo in their quest……this story appeared in the Global Post……

It’s hard to tell from this perspective — ya know, while on the internet — but that’s a freakin’ gigantic hole in the ground.

It’s about 260 feet wide, nobody knows how deep, and it seems to have appeared out of nowhere in a remote corner of northern Siberia called Yamal, which means, appropriately, “the end of the world.”

There are plenty of theories already. Could be a UFO crash site, some say. Others, a meteorite.

A researcher with the Sub-Arctic Scientific Research Centre thinks it might have been caused by a release of subterranean gas trapped for 10,000 years or so. The gas, according to the theory, had been trapped since the area was a sea, and as climate change melted the permafrost, that pressurized gas might have forced its way out of the ground like a corked champagne bottle.

Incidentally, the Yamal Peninsula is one of Russia‘s richest regions for the production of oil and gas, and the hole appeared 19 miles from Bovanenkovo, a major gas field. So it could have something to do with that…

Thankfully, scientists are ON IT. Experts from the Centre for the Study of the Arctic and from the Cryosphere Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences are on an expedition as we speak.

There you are….a new link in the old theory of a Hollow Earth…..

Do I buy into the Hollow Earth thing?  Not really, but it makes for an interesting post…..don’t you think?
