Opinion from the desk of the Editor
A question I hear asked from all branches of the political spectrum…….there seems to be NO one that has anything good to say about the government and especially the Congress….
The original intent was for there to be three branches of government and that would keep the political process honest….The Congress was suppose to be the representatives of the people, chosen by the people…..and now it is a worthless political appendage and what do we do with a worthless appendage? We get rid of it before it turns gangrenous….
Maybe it is time to re-think the system……because the Congress no longer functions as an integral part of government…..
Meanwhile back to the point.
Shall we take a few minutes and review the case against our beloved Congress?
1–the Congress approval rating is about 7-10%…a recent survey by the Gallup, I believe, ran a recent survey and the Congress is loathed by almost everyone in the country.
2-the Congress works less than 4 total months a session……the rest of the time they are out fondling the wallets of fat cats….
3-when the Congress is actually in town they spend most of their time on hearings that accomplish nothing but wasting the taxpayers money.
4-the Congress has passed less than 25 bills since the session began and most of the ones passed are such pressing problems as naming bridges and post offices with a highway thrown in ever so often to break up the monotony…….
5-then there is the billions wasted on paying people that are basically nothing more than wards of the state……
Now there is SCOTUS or the Supreme Court of the US…….the branch that is suppose to act as the referee between the prez and the Congress but instead it is unraveling the rights that were supposedly guaranteed to the citizens and assisting the takeover of the government by big business……
Now that leaves the prez who is virtually impotent in executing his duties as the leader of the country….his hands are being partially tied by a worthless Congress and a Court that cares nothing for the rights of the citizens of this country.
So far we have had NO government in 6 years…..we have a bunch of overpaid worthless parasites that do nothing they were “hired” to do…..especially the Congress.
It is time for the people to take a good hard and rational look at the Congress and the way we do business….in other words, it is time for a change……not reform. Reform is as worthless as the Congress we elect. We can either change or sit back and let the Congress totally destroy our way of governance.
There is the rub….depending on the very people that cannot vote the parasites out of office……..we have an election is coming soon and these people will re-elect the very people they bitch about….so is change ever gonna come? Not in my lifetime.
Your choice……..
I never liked the idea of one-party rule, but I wouldn’t mind if the Dems had a majority in both houses, the supreme court and had the presidency. Or, I wouldn’t mind seeing Republicans who are willing to bend a little and negotiate and work with the president.
Something needs to be done….for I see this type of BS going on for years…..
When one party’s governing philosophy is that we should eliminate the government, then there is no chance to address issues. By not working, not passing legislation, or not solving problems using the power of government, the Republicans are accomplishing their goals. In the process they drag the President and the Democrats down with them. This anti-government attitude that permeates the Republican party goes back to Ronald Reagan who famously said, “the government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem.”If we the people cannot use our elected government to solve problems, then trying to maintain a democratic republic will be very difficult. These anti-government people running to be in the government need to be defeated. However, I do think it will change in your lifetime (unless you expect to kick the bucket in the next couple of year). Take a look at what is starting to happen in Kansas. Moderate Republicans (the old Bob Dole type of Republicans) are starting to turn against their party. Unfortunately I think it will take another major economic downturn, probably worse that 2008-09, before people demand that Congress get off its ass and do something. More people need to suffer and get mad before they will demand change. But it has to be sustained for more than one election cycle. People wanted change in 2008 and they got it, but then didn’t show up in 2010. But the hardcore anti-government Tea Party base did, then they redistricted the congressional boundaries.
Hi Daniel nice to see you again…….I agree with the suffering thing….but that could go both ways or should I say either way, conditions could be where the extremes of either party could gain a toe hold and that may be all they need….
True, but based on the size of the demonstrations that we saw by the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street I would put my money on a swing back from the right-wing extreme. I think we are living through the tail end of Reagan supply-side economic revolution. Moving back to the center, or even left of center doesn’t equate to the extremism that we are seeing from the Tea Party people who seek to tear down the government. I think too many people buy into the “both sides” argument. I honestly don’t know who in political office people are referring to when they talk about the extreme left.
Daniel, the closest we have to an extreme left is Warren and Sanders….but they are more centrists than left……I will be posting my thoughts on the upcoming ewlections probably in September….look for them I would like your input…..chuq
I will look for it.
The point of Congress is to help fool people into thinking the US Empire is a democracy that it is ruled by & for the citizenry, not buy & for a bloodthirsty & profit lusting oligopoly of corporations and the 1%.
It gives Americans entertaining circuses to focus on while the actual decision making goes on well out of view.
I like the circus analogy…….
