Closing Thought–11May21

Finally Trump’s lawyer at the DOJ, AG Bill Barr has been called out by a couple of judges for his part in the obfuscating of the investigation conducted by Mueller…..

A federal judge has ordered the release of a legal memorandum the Trump-era Justice Department prepared for then-Attorney General William Barr before he announced his conclusion that then-President Trump had not obstructed justice during the Russia investigation, the AP reports. The Justice Department had refused to give the March 24, 2019, memorandum to a government transparency group that requested it under the Freedom of Information Act, saying the document represented the private advice of lawyers and was produced before any formal decision had been made and was therefore exempt from disclosure under public records law. But US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson, in a sharp rebuke of Barr, said the Justice Department had obscured “the true purpose of the memorandum” when it withheld the document.

She said the memo from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel contained “strategic, as opposed to legal advice” and that both the writers and the recipients already understood that Trump would not be prosecuted. Though government agencies may withhold from disclosure documents that reflect internal deliberations before a decision is made, that protection does not apply in this case since a conclusion had already been reached, the judge wrote. “In other words, the review of the document reveals that the Attorney General was not then engaged in making a decision about whether the President should be charged with obstruction of justice; the fact that he would not be prosecuted was a given,” Jackson said in an order dated Monday. The judge said the Justice Department has until May 17 to file any motion to stay the order.

Will this sycophant that covered Trump’s ass for years finally be exposed for the dullard he truly is and made to be accountable for the lies and misinformation that was the hallmark of Trump and his administration.

Origins Of The “Big Lie”

The BS that the GOP wants to fuel instead of actually having ideas for governing they prefer to do NOTHING but obstruct and bring the government to a screeching halt.

The “Big Lie” where did this originate?

Was it when Donald the Orange read the handwriting on the wall that all was not well with his campaign?

Whose big idea was this large falsehood…..

It all began in 2018…two years before Trump’s monumental loss…..

Two years before the 2020 election, the conspiracy that Donald Trump won the election was part of a plot cooked up by a Texas Republican businessman, reported a Washington Post exposé.

In a shocking report, the Post revealed Russell J. Ramsland Jr. pitched an idea that “seemed rooted in evidence.”

The theory was that “voting-machine audit logs — lines of codes and timestamps that document the machines’ activities — contained indications of vote manipulation.” There was just one problem, they didn’t have a candidate to test the theory.

The problem was that in 2020 most races were clear, even the presidential race. U.S. Rep Pete Sessions (R-TX) wanted nothing to do with it, nor did state Sen. Don Huffins (R). But Donald Trump didn’t want to lose and he certainly didn’t want to lose by the amount he did in 2020.

Now you know where all this silly BS came from…..please share this information with all your friends…..hopefully it would make a difference.

Let the circus begin!

“Kill A Leftist”!

Since my youth I have called many things because of my political and social beliefs….I remember slogans like “the only good Commie is a dead Commie”….a disturbing thought when you do not agree with the words or thoughts of someone who does not hold with your particular form of thinking.

That was then and this is now.

Looks like the state of Iowa and Oklahoma has gone that next step……make it legal to kill a Leftist……yes you read that correctly….”kill a Leftist”…..

So now it’ll be legal in some Neolithic U.S. states to run over leftists with your car. What’ll come next? Legalizing pushing people out of airplanes at 35,000 feet? Running over swimmers with boats? Unleashing your rabid dog on people whose political persuasions offend you? There are so many possibilities! It’s already legal for cops to shoot leftists. They did so with no repercussions in Oregon, after Trump took to the airwaves to tell them to hurry up and “do what has to be done” to Michael Reinoehl, suspected of shooting a fascist. And cops murder people in traffic stops all the time. But why just police? Doesn’t any idiot with a gun have the right to “stand his ground?” Why can’t fascists like the Proud Boys shoot anybody they don’t like? After all, if radical right-wing thugs don’t like somebody, GOP governors can’t be far behind, nodding in agreement. This is the new criteria in some U.S. states for how we excuse homicide – red-blooded Amuricans don’t like these people, so yeah, it’s cool to drive smack into them.

According to the Des Moines Register, a new law in Iowa would “grant civil immunity to drivers of vehicles who injure someone who is blocking traffic while engaging in disorderly conduct or participating in a protest, demonstration, riot or unlawful assembly without a permit.” The Washington Post reports that Florida governor Ron “Who Needs Masks?” DeSantis signed a similar law. “That legislation is already a target of a federal civil rights lawsuit,” the Post reports. Oklahoma also passed such a measure.

The “Kill a Leftist” Law

So now not only has some states made it illegal to protest (a 1st amendment right) but now it is okay to run over anyone you do not agree with.

Never thought I would live to see the day when it was legal to execute political opponents.

Every day this country moves closer to Nazi Germany.

Does anyone else find this disturbing?

If not the you are a cog in the racism machine at work in so many states.

Hatred has found a strong home here in the US.

I Did Not Know That!

Closing Thought–10May21

I have bitched many time about the lack of knowledge of our so-called ‘experts’…their lack of basic knowledge especially historic knowledge……

Texas is in the midst of a massive voter suppression move….that this video is the questioning of the dullard that wrote the bill….

I know it is a long video but it is worth watching …..it illustrates just how out of touch those making policy.

The policymaker is one major reason this country is sucking….no grasp of history.

Ignorance and stupidity is killing this country…..and we (collective form) are feeding our own destruction.

What will it take for the people to actually care about this direction?

Well someone cared.

The “purity” has been pulled from the proposed bill….

A segregationist term from the Jim Crow era referring to the “purity” of ballots was yanked at the last minute before the Texas House passed a measure restricting voting.
But an initial fight was over the bill’s statement of purpose. It initially said that said the measure was designed to “preserve the purity of the ballot box” — a phrase “drafted specifically to disenfranchise Black voters following the Civil War,” Democratic Rep. Rafael Anchía told bill sponsor Rep. Briscoe Cain (R).

Liz’s Replacement

Repub Liz Cheney is facing removal fro her leadership roll of the House Republicans because she will not drop to her knees for deposed dictator Donald……her replacement after the vote will mostly like be a coward named Stefanik……

More on this spineless Trump sycophant……

GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik has emerged as a leading contender to replace Liz Cheney in the No. 3 spot among House Republicans, and on Thursday she helped strengthen that case on her own behalf during an interview with Steve Bannon. Coverage:

  • The 36-year-old New York congresswoman stressed her support for Donald Trump during the interview, a stark contrast with Cheney’s continued criticism of him, notes CNN. Asked about party strategy for the 2022 elections, she said that her “vision is to run with support from the President and his coalition of voters,” referring to Trump.
  • “We are going to run as an alternative to the Biden agenda,” she added. “This is also about being one team. I’m committed to being a voice and sending a clear message that we are one team, and that means working with the President (again, referring to Trump) and working with all of our excellent Republican members of Congress.” (Cheney, on the other hand, says the party is at “turning point” and must reject Trump’s claims that Joe Biden stole the election.)
  • Trump himself has endorsed Stefanik as a replacement for Cheney in the leadership post, notes the AP. The House could vote next week on ousting Cheney, a move backed by the top two House Republicans, Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise. “The careers of Cheney and Stefanik are seemingly racing in opposite directions, as if to contrast the fates awaiting Trump critics and backers in today’s GOP,” writes Alan Fram.
  • So who is Stefanik? The Wall Street Journal has a profile, noting that when she won office six years ago, she was one of the youngest women ever elected to Congress. She rose to national attention with her defense of Trump in the first impeachment hearing, specifically because of her sparring with Democrat Adam Schiff. Stefanik also has reportedly been pondering a run for governor in New York, though this new wrinkle of a potential move up the GOP leadership ranks changes things.
  • The Washington Post also has a profile of the Harvard grad, noting that she was a campaign adviser to Paul Ryan before running herself. But Stefanik “no longer wants to be identified with the traditional conservatives who served as her mentors,” writes Paul Kane. “Instead, she wants to be placed squarely in Trump’s ‘America First’ movement.” The ideological shift mirrors that of her district in northern New York.
  • The CNN piece says Stefanik was largely viewed as a moderate before her embrace of Trump. That might be why the conservative Club for Growth voiced its disapproval of her to replace Cheney. Stefanik “is NOT a good spokesperson for the House Republican Conference,” says the group in a tweet. “She is a liberal with a 35% CFGF lifetime rating, 4th worst in the House GOP. House Republicans should find a conservative to lead messaging and win back the House Majority.”

Liz has cajones and her replacement will be a spineless worthless lump of manure that will say anything to get ahead.

But let’s take a closer look at Stefanik…..

  • The issue: The Hill frames this as a “loyalty test” revolving around Donald Trump. The former president likely “sealed the contest” for the leadership post by giving Stefanik his strong support, write Mike Lillis and Scott Wong. She has likewise been one of Trump’s most vocal supporters over the past year. The problem is that her voting record is far more moderate than Cheney’s on policy issues.
  • The critics: Politico echoes the above, with Tina Nguyen writing that “MAGAworld” in general does not like Stefanik, even if Trump himself does. Figures including Lou Dobbs, Ann Coulter, and popular MAGA news and opinion sites have loudly expressed their displeasure with Stefanik in recent days. Groups such the Club for Growth and FreedomWorks similarly weighed in. The latter cited her “dismal” 37% voting record by the group’s standard.
  • Example: Stefanik “is the identity of a swamp creature, and she has probably the most liberal voting record of anybody who represents a strong Republican district,” says Ryan James Girdusky, author of the National Populist newsletter.
  • Countering: Longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon (who interviewed Stefanik on Thursday) is strongly in her camp, along with the president. “You’ve got (Josh) Hawley in the Senate and Stefanik [in the House],” he says. “You’ve got to look at the journey.” The Hill reports that Stefanik is privately telling people she has the leadership post locked up, and CNN quotes an anonymous conservative activist on why: Cheney may have the better voting record, but “Elise satisfies the litmus test that she is pro-Trump. And that’s all that counts these days in our coalition.”
  • Summing up: At the conservative-leaning Hot Air, Allahpundit compares Stefanik to Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, also of New York. Both started out as moderates but shifted as their constituencies did. Gillibrand went left and Stefanik right, “turning from establishmentarian to Trumpist.” Sure, groups such as FreedomWorks have a right to be ticked about Stefanik’s voting record, but it doesn’t matter because of Trump’s endorsement. “Only one person in this party gets a vote and he’s cast it. The debate is over.”

These are the very same GOP that called Dems ‘Stalinists’….does anyone else see how pathetic these twats are?

Country means nothing to the GOP….governing means nothing to republicans…..and this person is in a leadership role.

Nothing says a strong country by letting MORONS run it!

I weep for this country.

That New Jobs Report

The figures are out.

Looks like all predictions were a bit off this time around.

The new unemployment report for April is out, and the takeaway number didn’t come close to meeting expectations. Details:

  • The number: Employers added 266,000 jobs in the month, even though analysts had expected roughly 1 million, reports CNBC. The outlet characterizes the figure as a “huge letdown.” What’s more, the March increase of 916,000 was revised downward to 770,000.
  • The rate: The unemployment rate rose from 6% to 6.1%. Though a disappointment, that’s down from a record-high 14.8% last April, notes the Wall Street Journal.
  • 2 reasons: The AP sees the disappointing hiring figure as a sign that employers are struggling to find people to fill openings. Supply-chain problems also may be limiting what businesses can do, per the Journal.
  • Bright spot: The leisure and hospitality industry saw the biggest gain with 331,000 new hires, though that still leaves the industry 2.9 million jobs short of pre-pandemic levels. Those gains were offset by losses in other sectors, including manufacturing, retail, and temping in general.
  • A blip? At MarketWatch, Jeffry Bartash suggests that the April figures will likely end up being a “temporary blip” in the recovery. “Falling coronavirus cases and massive federal stimulus have turbocharged the economy and job openings have surged,” he writes. The US remains poised “for a summer of strong growth.”

These figures are not good….but why is this?

Maybe it is because the unemployment benefits are too generous?  (This is a GOP talking point)……

The new monthly jobs report came in way below expectations on Friday, with employers hiring 266,000 people in April instead of the 1 million or so expected by analysts. The report has reignited a familiar political debate amid the pandemic, with those on the right arguing that President Biden’s relief package is so generous that it encourages people to stay home instead of getting a job. Defenders of the aid, however, say it’s not that simple. Coverage:

  • Chamber’s view: The US Chamber of Commerce on Friday came out firing after the unemployment report, reports CNBC. “The disappointing jobs report makes it clear that paying people not to work is dampening what should be a stronger jobs market,” it says. The chamber urged lawmakers to end “the weekly $300 weekly supplemental unemployment benefit,” asserting that 25% of those receiving it are making more money than they did when working.
  • Not so fast: The argument that extra benefits encourages people to stay home has been circulating for a while, and last month in the Los Angeles Times, business columnist Michael Hiltzik argued that it doesn’t hold water. “Economists have consistently debunked the idea that unemployment insurance benefits suppress job searching,” he writes. Those who say otherwise are citing anecdotes, not data, he adds.
  • Other factors: Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal dug into the issue of employers struggling to find workers, and the story cited a number of factors based on surveys. For one thing, people are afraid of getting COVID, especially in high-traffic places such as bars and restaurants; others cite child-care issues, because businesses are opening faster than schools.
  • One example: But the story notes that the extra unemployment benefits appear to be playing a role as well. The story quotes a concert promoter who wants to return to work in his own field and is avoiding taking other jobs because his $750 in weekly benefits makes that possible. “I really enjoyed what I did,” he says. “If the government is going to pay you to stay home, you’re going to do that unless that job you really want comes along.”
  • Biden vs. McCarthy: Expect the issue to intensify. Biden himself defended his rescue package on Friday in the wake of the jobs report, notes the Hill. “Help is here and more help is on the way and more help is needed,” he said. In contrast is this tweet from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. “Today’s jobs report is a disappointment—just like President Biden’s plan to burden families with more taxes & more debt,” he wrote. “While Dems trap people in a cycle of fear & pay them NOT to work, it’s clear the best thing to do is end the crisis-era policies & get Americans back to work.”
  • Eye on the states: States may make their own moves. Montana, for example, plans to start offering bonuses to people who return to work, reports KRTV. It also plans to opt out early of the federal program that provides extra benefits—by the end of next month instead of September.

The arguments against the benefits are just outright BS…..has anyone tried living on $300 a week?

Personally I would listen to nothing the Chamber has to say….why?

They support all the voter suppression initiatives….for me that makes them the enemy…..and no one that I would consider reliable source.

So far most of the ‘owners’ of business that have a personnel problem and those that notoriously pay lower wages.

Think about this…the jobs that no one wants are the lower paid jobs…..why return to work for $200 a week when you can stay home and make $300?

I think this is a prime example that the minimum wage needs raising and quickly.

People would return to work if they were paid a living wage.

So stop bitching and do something about it!

It Is All Too Damn Depressing

Happy Mother’s Day for the mothers out there.

Sorry to say I was awoken 0100  and it continued all night by cats fighting…it went on for hours….so I am not in the best mood to start my day.

First let me say that I am just thinking out loud.

I am tired!  And I am old!

The news seems to be on an endless loop or Covid, the Trial of the century, an the selling of war…..and some dude in Russia.  When we should be laser focused on the attempts to suppress voters in all forms……the MSM should spend as much time on the suppression as they spend on the jabs…and then there is the analysis of the Chauvin trial…..glad he got what he deserved the verdict will change little….there are about 18,000 police departments and all play their different game….there is NO standardization anywhere…..talk will not change the culture.

Things are slow here on IST…..seems no one gives a sh*t about the world around them….which is why we find ourselves knee deep in manure.

The lack of knowledge/interest in Civics is killing this country…few seem to actually care about the nation and its direction….lots of bitching and moaning but that is as far as it goes….words.

It seems that few care.

I blame the media for they pick what they want as news and feed the viewer mundane, mind numbing manure….nothing that would help solve the culture of ignorance.

Since things are so slow I decided to slow myself down as well.

First my recent poetry posts prove that no one cares about those thoughts from me….they failed before and it failed once again….so that shall be the last attempt I will make to try and find something other than the crappy news.

Moving on.

I have come to the point where it is difficult to write observations of this country.

All the silliness of the culture war….the abortion, bathrooms, party stupidity, the Senate, the shootings, the idiocy of insurrection, guns and the lot.

While Americans are going hungry and homeless and health issues, etc…..instead of caring about our fellow Americans people we are laser focused of voter suppression and division.

Instead of caring about the direction of this country……we are laser focused on pimple popping doctors and fashion tips and photos and those damn food blogs…..and you wonder why this country is going to a manure pile….this should be your first clue.

Mind numbing and dumbing down the populace.

I wish I could say ‘this too will pass’….but I am not so sure that is accurate in my lifetime.

Party politics have become the norm and while that stupidity plays out Americans are losing their homes, their children are hungry and dying from health issues….when did this country become so unfeeling?

For me it started with the election of Ronnie in 1980 and it has progressively gotten worse and that brings us to today…..an unfeeling lump of manure.

I wrote and lectured through the 70s, 80s and into the early 90s….and there were deaf ears all around….so I decided in 1994 to give up trying to educate and inform the people of this country….I became disgusted and it was all too depressing.

I stepped back from all this political nonsense…that is until 2006 while recovering from a badly broken leg thanx in part of Hurricane Katrina and while rehab I decided to try once again to help people grasp the country and its direction and once again I get more response from my canine companion MoMo….at least she shows some form of interest…..while the country at large could care f*cking less.

NO I am not giving up the work….just that the American people need to wake up and smell the manure all around them.

There are times that I feel as useful as an ashtray on a motor bike.

But sadly Americans do not give a sh*t.

They had prefer the mind numbing BS of bathroom usage and trying to push an agenda that means nothing to move this country forward….and the American people suck up the manure with glee.

I wish I could be more optimistic….but the trend does not lead me in that direction.

I will continue my efforts but it gets harder and harder by the day…..as old age takes control I feel that one day I will just throw my hands up and yell”F*ck it!”  Why bother?

My grandfather use to say….”when you teach pigs to sing two things will happen…..you waste your time and piss off the pig”.

This is not about stats…..more about public apathy…..I always knew that I was not writing for everyone so I never expected 50 readers a day….so far I am not disappointed.

Since I do not write about rainbows and unicorns or post an endless array of food photos or write fiction….I have decided that there are books to read, time with my better half, my best friend MoMo and a garden that needs attention I will limit my posts until such time as some modicum of interest returns.

It’s All Too Damn Depressing!

After years of trying to moderate my political thinking all this apathy has made me return to the Hard Left thinking that I held in my youth.

To all those that take the time to visit IST…I cannot thank you enough….please know that you are appreciated and you have helped me through retirement and old age….and of course I will still visit the sites of friends…I am just stepping back nor leaving.

I am sorry if I offended anyone that is not my intention…..I am very happy for anyone that is successful and I wish you continued success.

Frustrated and just thinking out loud.

Be Well…..Be Safe…..Smile

All Those Cow Farts

I can recall from a decade of more ago when cows were being blamed for all the global warming…..oh sorry climate change because they eat a lot of fiber and supposedly do a lot of farting.

Does anyone else remember this?

There were even some that blamed the demise of the dinosaur because of their massive consumption and of course their farting….sorry again I digress.

Long a target of environmentalists due to its purported negative effects on the global environment, cattle farming has lately been pilloried by eco-activists for its alleged hastening of warming across the planet due to the high levels of greenhouse gasses that the industry produces every year.

Yet a relatively small but growing body of research suggests that certain types of cattle farming— namely, those in which cows are raised on pastures for their whole lives as opposed to in feedlots — may actually have a carbon-negative effect on the environment by helping to sequester greenhouse grasses under well-managed grasslands.

The vast majority of beef produced in the U.S. is sourced in feedlots in which cattle are fed primarily corn and grains, a diet which hastens their fattening and prepares them for slaughter much earlier than traditional methods.

Environmentalists have criticized those systems as ecologically ruinous due to their heavy carbon footprints, citing in part their dependence on chemically fertilized cattle feed and the copious amounts of methane that cows emit in the form of burps and flatulence.

A Baby Dies

Some sad news for the weekend.

Here on the Coast we have had a horrific high speed chase that ends with driver shot and killed as well as a baby he had in the vehicle.

The chase started in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with a double murder and the suspected perp went on the lame with a 4 month old baby…..along I-10 that ended in Harrison county Mississippi.

East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies responded around 11:30 a.m. to 911 hang-up call from the 2000 block of Richmond Street in Baker. Smith’s ex-girlfriend lives at the address.

When deputies got to the home, they found the shooting victims, identified by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office as Christin Parker, 32, and her nephew, Brandon Parker, 26.

Smith left the home in a blue Nissan Altima and had the 4-month-old baby with him.

The top priority for Louisiana authorities was to locate the child unharmed, so they immediately released details of the incident to the public.

Biloxi police are handling the investigation into Smith’s death because the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Gulfport Police Department and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office took part in the chase.

The baby has died from wounds sustained in the “shoot out”…..

After a baby was killed in an alleged shootout with police on the interstate Monday, many in South Mississippi have questions about police protocol and policies related to use of force.

Law enforcement chased a double-homicide suspect, Eric Derrell Smith, after he was spotted on the interstate in Mississippi. Smith’s 4-month-old baby boy was in the blue Nissan Altima with him.

After officers deployed spike strips, Smith kept driving at a speed as low as 10 miles per hour. Then, when Smith’s car got stuck in the interstate median, officers fired a barrage of bullets into the vehicle.

The story goes that there were 20-35 shots fired into the car…..the perp was killed and the baby did as well from a gunshot wound…
A coroner’s report says a 4-month-old died from a gunshot wound after his father was killed by police, though officials won’t say how the baby was shot.

The autopsy report released Wednesday did not say where on his body the child was shot. It’s still unclear who fired the bullet.

This was the use of deadly force and a hostage situation….and yet many shots were fired into the car with apparently no concern for the safety of the baby.

The article above has the rules for the use of deadly force from the local law enforcement…..all responded (read the rules for yourself)….that with the exception from the county where I reside, Harrison,….they rejected the request for clarification.

Why was that?

Do they not have a set of rules or do they fear scrutiny?

Just another incident of “shoot first and cover ass later”…..

This is a tragedy that could have turned out better for the baby.

Now these troopers have to live with the fact that their trigger finger killed an incident by-stander.

Closing Thought–07May21

I live in what is being called these days as the “New South”….I have questioned the title for some time…..my premise is that very little has changed from what is the “Old South”…….the racism that all seem to think that is on the wane is far from……

Those in-bred spineless white boys that keep winning thanx to the legislation that the old white boys keep enacting prove their bias….and the most recent example is from Tennessee……this idiot wants to re-write history with the hope of continuing the racial bias…..

A Tennessee Republican falsely declared Tuesday that an 18th-century policy designating a slave as three-fifths of a person was adopted for “the purpose of ending slavery,” commenting amid a debate over whether educators should be restricted while teaching about systematic racism in America. During lengthy debate on the GOP-controlled state House floor, several Black lawmakers expressed concerns about the bill’s impact on how certain subjects would be taught in schools, specifically highlighting the Three-Fifths Compromise, the AP reports. The policy was made during the nation’s Constitutional Convention in 1787 and classified that three-fifths of a state’s slave population could be counted toward its total population when apportioning taxes and states’ representation in Congress. Historians largely agree the compromise gave slaveholding states inordinate power over choosing a president—and decisions of the Continental Congress. That clout eventually faded when Northern state populations began to rapidly rise.

Rep. Justin Lafferty, who is white, stood up and talked at length about what he saw as sparking the compromise. At one point he asked colleagues to note on paper their best guess for the reasons that led to the policy. “By limiting the number of population in the count, they specifically limited the number of representatives who would be available in the slave holding states and they did it for the purpose of ending slavery,” said Lafferty, from Knoxville. “Well before Abraham Lincoln. Well before Civil War.” None of the other lawmakers in the chamber directly challenged Lafferty’s false claims but some applauded when he finished talking. While the House overwhelmingly approved the legislation on Tuesday, the GOP-controlled Senate chamber refused to accept the House bill hours later. Its fate now remains unclear in the final days of the legislative session.

Historical revisionism just to keep the minorities in their “place”.

I would say that the New South smells as racist as the Old South….What about you?
