From The ‘Can’t Fix Stupid’ Files

Closing Thought–30Apr21

This thread is becoming a popular one and gives me a wealth of stupidity from which I can write and inform.

As usual the mouth from the past has once again showing his racism as well as his ignorance…that person is Rick Santorum…….

Native Americans aren’t the only people angry at Rick Santorum over remarks belittling their contribution to American culture—and their very existence before the arrival of European settlers. The former Republican senator told a conservative youth group Friday that in contrast to countries like Italy or China, American culture had started with a “blank slate.” “We birthed a nation from nothing. I mean, there was nothing here,” he told the Young America’s Foundation group, per Business Insider. “I mean, yes we have Native Americans but candidly there isn’t much Native American culture in American culture.” America, he said, is unique because it was “born of the people who came here pursuing religious liberty to practice their faith.”

Critics denounced Santorum’s comments and urged CNN to fire him from his role as a senior political commentator, reports the Hill. Santorum’s critics included fellow conservative Meghan McCain, Deadline reports. “You should really educate yourself Rick—go visit the incredible Navajo nation in Arizona,” the View co-host tweeted. “You also owe every Native American in this country a sincere apology for this garbage.” There has been no comment yet from CNN or from Santorum’s Patriot Voices organization.

Holding true Repub ideals….he keeps the crap flowing and feeds the racism that has taken over the GOP in the past years.

Santorum is an idiot….as soon as CNN realize it the sooner we can be rid of this lying d/bag.

Interesting the more racist an organization the more ‘patriotic’ the name sounds…..

Voter Fraud Easy To Eliminate

The news these days is of course Covid and then voter suppression being attempted by many states.

The GOP in the states have been buying into the “Big Lie” of voter fraud for decades…..now that they control so many state legislatures they have set about voter suppression under the guise of eliminating voter fraud (a unsubstantiated claim)….but the elimination of voter fraud (if we ever prove the claim) is easy to stop …….

Republicans care a whole lot about election security these days. Fueled in part by the “Big Lie,” the baseless claim that there was widespread fraud in last year’s election, Republican lawmakers around the country have made an aggressive push to pass new laws to prevent what they saw as a nightmare scenario from happening again. While the motivation to improve election security is spurious, the ostensible goal isn’t — everyone would agree that a secure election is important for democracy. Experts say there’s one very effective way for state legislatures to make the voting process more secure: pass legislation to update voting machines. But instead of prioritizing this effort, many Republicans are instead focused on limiting voter access.

“It would be terrific to see the focus on election security lead to more investments in better, more trustworthy systems,” said Mark Lindeman, co-director of Verified Voting, a nonpartisan election security organization.

The gold standard for voting security is hand-marked paper ballots, according to security experts. That’s because a paper ballot eliminates the risk of technical difficulties or certain kinds of malicious acts (think hacking) that could change or destroy your vote, and any concerns can be addressed with a recount. Because of that, most states currently use hand-marked paper ballots or have voting machines that generate paper records for verification.

Republicans Say They Care About Election Fraud. Here’s How They Could Actually Prevent It.

A ‘problem’ that has a solution….but then do these states really want to find a solution or is it just better to keep a bad system in place and use it as a crutch for voter suppression?

These ‘fixes’ are nothing more than the politicians picking their voters…..not the voter decision any longer.

Biden’s First 100 Days

Joe Biden has been in office at his job for 100 days….IST would like to take a look at those first days…..

I did not vote for Biden but I will say that so far I approve of his attempts….but that does not mean these policies will become the law of the land.

What has Biden been doing for these first days of his administration….

Image
Image

Biden approval rating via Fox poll: 95% Democrats 86% Black 72% Hispanic 67% under 35 yrs 63% suburban women 59% women 54% all voters 52% White college 48% men 46% White 46% over 65 yrs 42% independents 41% White non-college 34% White rural 33% White evangelicals 14%

Great numbers for his first 100 days….

Let’s take a look at the Biden agenda….

  • end the pandemic and ensure the success of the vaccination program–this is progressing nicely over 250 million pokes have been administered….and the nation is coming out of their masks slowly but securely.

  • full recovery and jobs growth for the economy…the economy is doing well and job growth is slow but steady7.

  • racial justice and voting rights….this is in progress but I am not optimistic whatsoever.

  • climate change and green energy job creation….a work in progress but another policy that I fear will not go anywhere.

  • completing Obamacare and ensuring access to a “public option” for health insurance coverage…this does little but make the health industry make obscene profits at the expense of Americans.

  • immigration reform and a path to citizenship for the “Dreamers”….slow progress but the border is a mess that needs a solution.

  • Build back better” America’s infrastructure: roads, bridges, railroads, airports, electricity grids, water supplies….a great idea but has push back from Repubs and Manchin and Sinema both Dems…..so this will be little help for our aging infrastructure.

  • gun control……minor teaks is the best he will do from this day forward.

Biden has called for “unity”….this is laughable at best…..not one Repub has signed on the assistance to Americans instead they hold with voter fraud, voter suppression, gender stuff and all around silliness that does NOTHING for the nation.

After 100 days what can the GOP claiming as successes?

Long Pause……distinct sound of crickets….

The only thing the GOP can claim is that they are obstructing the democratic process….they are voting for NOTHING…they offer no compromise for needed legislation….

So how did Biden do in his first 100 days?

I give him an “A” for the efforts he is attempting……I will also give him an “A” on style……however so far I give him a “C+” to  accomplishment….

Now that I have given Biden his props let me say that he needs to do so much more…..my thought is “Go Big Or Go Home”.

The Progressive Response.

Biden made his speech to the joint session and then we had the GOP’s response given by Sen. Scott of South Carolina…and now there is a “progressive’ response to the Biden speech given by Jamaal Bowman of New York…..

And his response went something like this…..

Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman of New York responded to President Joe Biden’s address Wednesday night with a rousing call for transformational change, arguing that the path the president charted during his speech and first 100 days in office is not sufficiently bold to tackle the immediate and long-term emergencies of climate change, soaring wealth inequality, and racial injustice.

“The crises we’re facing go well beyond the Covid-19 pandemic,” Bowman said in an address delivered on behalf of the Working Families Party. “While the richest billionaires got one trillion dollars richer during the pandemic, more than ten million families are behind on rent today, and there are eight million fewer jobs than a year ago. The climate crisis continues to ravage our communities, and scientists tell us we’re running out of time to act.”

“Every week,” Bowman continued, “we see an unconscionable new video of police violence against Black and brown men, women, and even children.”

While applauding Biden’s recent infrastructure, green jobs, and safety-net proposals as “important steps,” Bowman argued the president’s plans “don’t go as big as we’d truly need in order to solve the crises of jobs, climate and care. We need to think bigger.”

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2021/04/29/we-need-think-bigger-jamaal-bowman-delivers-progressive-response-biden

I do not go as far as to call Bowman a progressive but he does have the ear of a massive population….and the DNC was afraid to use a true progressive because of the blow back they fear would bite them min the ass at election time.

I like some of the ideas…but I feel they are not big enough….and as I keep saying to ALL Dems….”Go Big Or Go Home”

From the “Can’t Fix Stupid” Files

It’s Tucker again!  And there is a wealth of stupid falling from that open mouth.

This stupidity comes from FOX News (where else?) presenter Tucker Carlson……

Tucker Carlson says he’s so unhappy with society and the media in America that if he was a younger man, he would consider leaving. In an interview with sports website Outkick, the Fox host questioned some of his life choices and attacked his fellow journalists as “cowards” and “cringing animals” who refuse to chase “the tough stories on the people with the most power,” the Guardian reports. “The media is basically Praetorian Guard for the ruling class, the bodyguards for Jeff Bezos,” he said. “That’s the opposite of what we should have.” The journalists of his youth were “fearless,” Carlson said, but today’s are “small-minded, status-obsessed, insecure.” “I really hate them for it,” said Carlson, whose new Tucker Carlson Originals show launched on the Fox Nation streaming service Friday.

On his main show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, Carlson regularly attacks lesser-known journalists, some of whom have reported harassment and death threats afterward, the Washington Post reports. During the Outkick interview, Carlson also slammed “liberal arts education” and said he wished he hadn’t gone to college. He said he pushed all four of his children to skip college, though none of them have done so. Asked what he would do if he was 30 years younger, the 52-year-old said he would move to Idaho or Montana to start his own newspaper instead of becoming part of a “system based on lies”—or just leave the country altogether. “I love America, but if I were 22, I might look to see if there’s another place that’s going to treat me as an individual and not as a member of a tribe,” he said.

No need to be retrospective…..it is never too late….go now while you can.

Any suggestions for Carlson?

Plus I will chip in for a ticket to the country of choice….may I suggest Russia since you have passed off their propaganda as fact…..Putin will embrace you and Trump will give you the medal of ignorance.

Biden’s State Of The Union Address

Biden was invited to a joint session of Congress to give the traditional SOTU address on 28 April……he accepted….this will be a break with tradition for Presidents don’t deliver a State of the Union address to Congress until their second year in office…….and the speech went something like this…..

President Biden addressed Congress for the first time since taking office Wednesday night, calling for America “to do more than just build back. We have to build back better.” How so: by making sure corporations and the wealthiest 1% of Americans are paying their fair share, CNN reports. The network says he laid out an economic and infrastructure plan that amounted to “a far more progressive agenda than his 2020 campaign would have suggested.” More from the address, reactions to it, and the Republican rebuttal from Sen. Tim Scott:

  • The New York Times and CNN have more on what was included in the address, which also touched on foreign policy, immigration, coronavirus vaccination, the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, and more.
  • Scott, the only Black GOP senator, said in his response that Biden’s $1.8 trillion American Families Plan is “big government waste.” The Times also has more on his rebuttal, which also called out coronavirus shutdowns and the growing divide over systemic racism: “America is not a racist country,” he said.
  • The AP fact-checks both Biden’s and Scott’s speeches. It finds a number of issues with Biden’s address, including his claim that “There’s a broad consensus of economists—left, right, center—and they agree that what I’m proposing will help create millions of jobs and generate historic economic growth.” The statement “glosses over the naysayers” some of whom say the spending is too much. It also finds misleading statements from Scott’s response; more here.
  • The AP also has details on the “diminished mood” of what is typically a more “electrifying evening,” but was much less so this year thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. It also notes that many Republican lawmakers simply didn’t attend. Those who did, including Mitch McConnell, rarely stood up to applaud. But Biden name-dropped McConnell poignantly, recalling that “it meant a lot” when McConnell suggested Biden name a cancer research bill after his late son, Beau.
  • A poll conducted after the address found that 71% of respondents felt more optimistic after hearing it, CNN reports.
  • WTVY rounds up some of the reactions that have come in from lawmakers. The Daily Beast notes that on Fox News, Chris Wallace was predicting the speech would be popular with Americans while Ben Domenech argued it would be a quickly-forgotten “blip.”

I heard nothing new….his daily news updates has told us everything we need to know….this was nothing but a much deserved victory lap.

But let’s face reality…this is nothing more than a wish list that will go NO further than the Senate and as we know this is where great bills go to DIE!

For me it was redundant and boring….but that was nothing new for me.

Then there was the GOP response…..given by South Carolina senator, Tim Scott…..

A typical Repub response….Dems bad and Repubs good…..and as usual there was no plans for the future other than to repeat lies and misinformation…..the party used Scott to try and change the conversation on race and the stupidity of the party…..and yet he failed on this issue completely.

Scott just reiterated the obstructionism that we have lived with since 2008.

All in all it was a wasted evening for me.

But that is something that I am use to with the American experiment these days.

Spotlight On Giuliani

I have never thought Rudy was all that even in the shadow of the Towers on 9/11….and my dislike only grew…..through his failed presidential fiasco and through the Trump years where to me he sounded like a babbling moron I always thought he was.

Now the DOJ has raided Rudy’s office on his dealings with Ukraine…apparently something may be a bit hinkey with his dealings…..

Federal investigators from the office Rudy Giuliani used to lead searched the former New York City mayor’s Manhattan apartment and Park Avenue office early Wednesday, sources tell numerous outlets. Insiders tell the New York Times that Giuliani’s electronic devices were seized in connection with an investigation of his dealings in Ukraine. Sources tell the Times and AP that the United States Attorney’s office in Manhattan, which Giuliani led from 1983 to 1989, pushed for a search warrant last year but the Justice Department under former President Trump refused to sign off on it. The AP reports that in doing so now, prosecutors are indicating they have probable cause that Giuliani committed a federal crime; that does not mean he will be charged. The Times calls it “an extraordinary move for prosecutors to take against a lawyer, let alone a lawyer for a former president.”

Giuliani lawyer Roberto Costello confirmed the searches to the Times, calling them unnecessary and “legal thuggery.” Giuliani has not been charged and he has denied wrongdoing, CNN reports. He hasn’t commented on the Wednesday search yet, but he has previously described the investigation as “pure political persecution.” The Times reports that investigators have been focusing on whether Giuliani illegally lobbied for the administration on behalf of Ukrainian oligarchs. Giuliani has longstanding connections in Ukraine and worked on behalf of Trump to try to dig up damaging information on President Biden and his son, Hunter. Two Soviet-born men who aided Giuliani’s investigation were arrested in the US in 2019 on campaign finance charges. Politico reports that investigators suspect Giuliani was paid for his efforts to persuade Trump to oust US Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch.

Sorry but all I have is …”could not happen to a more deserving slug”….he went form “America’s Mayor” to “America’s Court Jester”…the Fool On The Hill”.

It is NO secret that FOX News’ Tucker Carlson is a moron.

I understand why MSNBC had the good sense to cut this babbling buffoon lose…..when he gets on his lame soap box he proves every time what a screaming d/bag he truly has become.

His newest diatribe is about people who have the good sense to wear maks to help save them from the morons that refuse to mask up.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson raged against the idea of wearing face masks on Monday night, telling his viewers to openly mock those they see wearing masks outside.

“Your response when you see children wearing masks as they play should be no different from your response to seeing someone beat a kid in Walmart. Call the police immediately. Contact Child Protective Services. Keep calling until someone arrives,” Carlson said.

“What you’re looking at is abuse, it’s child abuse, and you are morally obligated to attempt to prevent it.”

https://www.businessinsider.com/tucker-carlson-parents-forcing-children-wear-masks-reported-child-abuse-2021-4

Watch the shirt video enclosed in the article.

Now if I were told to remove my mask my first response would be “f*ck you”….then if more was needed I would reply….”my mask comes off when you and your ilk learn to manage your stupidity”.

Then I would say please make me….I have a lawyer on speed dial and I will own you and everything you have….so please grow a set and make me.

Hannity must be pissed that he is no longer the lead crazy on FOX.

Carlson is the prime example of just how far down the idiot hole the Right and its pundits have traveled….

Yet another example of how you just “can’t fix stupid”.

The State Of The Union Address

A short history lesson…..

Soon Pres. Biden will making his first SOTU address to a joint session of Congress…..since traditionally the first year of a presidency is not a SOTU address…we will call it a joint address to Congress…..call it what you like but it will be a SOTU address.

But why?

Why does the president make these speeches every year?

Is it something they must do or is it just a way for them to look like they actually care about the country?

The State of the Union address can trace its roots back to the Constitution. Article II, Section 3, Clause 1 of the Constitution says that the president “shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”

“From time to time” leaves the question of frequency open to interpretation, but George Washington helped cement the State of the Union as an annual event after he gave the first State of the Union address at Federal Hall in New York City in January 1790.

Since there wasn’t much of a blueprint for Washington, he praised the 1st Congress’s work and outlined a brief legislative plan for the upcoming year: He wanted to work on the army, build post roads, and develop uniform systems of currency, weights, and measures. In December 1790, Washington gave his second State of the Union address and firmly established it as an annual event—and the tradition that it take place near the end of the year. Until 1934, the State of the Union was usually in December or November. This would change to the beginning of the year after the 20th amendment moved the start of Congress up to January.

….but that does not mean that every president has made such a speech….

No. You’ll notice that the order from Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution doesn’t say anything about a speech; the president just has to keep Congress informed of what’s going on in the country. When Thomas Jefferson took office in 1801, he decided that the idea of showing up before Congress to deliver a grand address sounded like something a monarch would do, so he decided to bag the speech. Instead, he wrote down an annual message and sent it to Congress, where a clerk read it aloud to the legislators.

https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/29811/brief-history-state-union

In his speech tonight what can Biden possibly say that he has not already said?

I mean we have daily presidential updates….so what can he possibly give us tonight?

So You Want Police Reform

The big debate these days is that of police reform….especially since the conviction of Chauvin….and yet since then at least three African-Americans have been needlessly killed.

You say that you are disgusted by all the police violence and deaths and you want change…..then get off your ass and work to that end.

American police culture apparently teaches how kill and not how to ‘protect and serve’…..and that needs some serious attention if it is ever to get solved.

If that is your aim then YOU need to force the change that the authorities seem unwilling to provide……don’t give it lip service time to stand or sit down and STFU.

I have made my thoughts known on this and what could be done on many occasions…..

8 Point Plan To End Police Brutality

“De-Fund The Police”

Is It Police Reform….Or Defund….Or Abolition?

Read those three post of mine….and then let me point out a few more things that could be done…..

1) Employ more oversight

2) Improve data collection

3) Address racial bias

4) End qualified immunity

5) Change use-of-force policies

6) Demilitarize the police

7) Defund the police

8) Abolish the police

9) Initiate broad systemic reforms

I am not advocating some of the these policies….but before you decide for yourself please read the article in Vox….they explain each and every part……https://www.vox.com/22396400/defunding-abolishing-police-among-ideas-derek-chauvin-verdict

I hear that recruiting practices are to blame….not the training…..I disagree….apparently the training teaches to go to the gun before anything…..that is training….recruitment needs to be tighter….but training is the real problem….if a cop cannot disarm a person with a knife without killing them then the training lacks substance beyond the gun.

If you think that real change will come with the leaders then you are in a delusional state.  Reality contradicts that belief.

YOU can make the changes society needs but not if you sit by and let the powers that be make the decisions on this……if you do sit by then nothing will change.

A change in the police culture can only be achieved by the local population.

Local, state, and federal governments in the United States should move beyond superficial changes and fundamentally rethink public safety by reducing the scope of policing, investing in community services, and ensuring abusive officers are held accountable, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. A detailed description of the pervasive problems with policing is included in the report, along with “14 Recommendations for Police Reform.”

The 29-page report, “A Roadmap for Reimagining Public Safety in the United States: 14 Recommendations on Policing, Community Investment, and Accountability,” proposes shifting investments from policing to social services, affordable housing, schools, community-based healthcare systems – especially mental health and voluntary drug treatment – and local economic development. Redirecting resources from policing to services that effectively address underlying societal problems, along with establishing effective, independent oversight of police, would limit harms by police and improve public safety.

You most let your voice be heard at all levels, city, state and national…..go to city council meetings and force the agenda you want…..go to the county supervisors meetings and do the same…..work on the state and national level with your representatives….force the issue.

You say you want change….then by god make that change….you and only you can make these social changes….

If the politicians will not change or listen then….TAKE IT TO THE STREETS!
