All This Superficiality!

Body image is tied to a persons self-worth.

Too many waste money on trying to fit into yoga pants(only a handful actually look good in this trend not matter how much gym time they put in).

They exercise their butts, abs and legs and yet they neglect the most important muscle in the body…..the brain.

Now that the so-called ‘lockdown’ is being removed…the superficiality is once again the most important thing in life…..this time it is not the gym but rather the dentist.

It might be too late to learn a new language before returning to the workplace, but many people are hurrying to have their teeth straightened after months of staring at themselves on Zoom calls. One New York orthodontist said new inquiries have risen 50% since fall. And the owner of Invisalign clear aligners said the number of people starting treatment in the first quarter was up 69% from a year before, the Wall Street Journal reports. “Typically, what motivates adults is a special event,” said an executive at a competitor. The special event in this case is the end of the pandemic lockdown. “People have been holed up,” he said. “They’re starting to have reveals or reunions with co-workers or family members.” The CDC decided anyone who’s been vaccinated doesn’t usually need to wear a mask outdoors, but in this context, masks serve another purpose: hiding a mouthful of braces.

There’s been more grinding of teeth—often affected by stress—during the pandemic, per US News & World Report. An American Dental Association survey found that of 70% of dentists reported an increase in the number of patients who’ve been grinding and clenching their teeth, a 10% jump since fall. That can lead to straightening efforts, as well. One patient went ahead with aligners when her dentist told her she’d need to wear a retainer or night guard to protect from the grinding. Patients say the nuisance of the treatments is easier to deal with when stuck at home anyway. “I have the time to do it, I’m at home, I’m not seeing people,” said a man in Los Angeles. Some people have themselves on a tight schedule. A woman in Michigan started her treatment last summer. “I’ll be done two days before my bachelorette party,” she said.

Come on….this is about appearance and nothing else…..stop pretending it is about health.

It is a shame that body image is more important aspect of one’s life…..whether the yoga pants look good or it your teeth are straight…..

Use your mind for something other than a source of a headache.

We all know the BS swirling around the Right about the 2020 election…that it was illegitimate……but there is a group of retired officers that have stepped all over the Constitution….that document that they swore an oath to protect……they signed a letter to Pres. Biden about the talking points on the lunatic Right…..

More than 120 retired US military leaders have signed an open letter appearing to advance a false conspiracy theory that the 2020 election was rigged and questioning President Joe Biden’s mental capacity to serve.

“Without fair and honest elections that accurately reflect the ‘will of the people’ our Constitutional Republic is lost,” said the letter released Tuesday by “Flag Officers 4 America,” and signed by 124 former admirals and generals.

“The FBI and Supreme Court must act swiftly when election irregularities are surfaced and not ignore them as was done in 2020.

On its website, Flag Officers 4 America says it is a collection of “retired military leaders who pledged to support and defend the Constitution of the US against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

In the letter, the signatories, many of whom have been out of active service for decades, also addressed concerns over Biden’s health.

Where’s The Civility?

Most career politicians in my opinion are sleazy actors addicted to power and high dollar donors….not the country.

Since the 1990s the Congress has become a major circus….the dignified debate and disagreements have become a a bad opera with antics and infantile situations….like the idiot that delivered pizza to a classified briefing….and then there is the newest clown on the Right, Taylor-Greene.

Since she lost her committees she has worked to find ways to get on camera and her newest skit is just simply undignified pursuit…..

Two of the most high-profile members of the House—one on the left, the other on the right—are the focus of a flurry of news coverage on Thursday. The headlines came after GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia confronted New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the latter was leaving the House chamber. Coverage:

  • The Washington Post reports that Greene shouted, “Hey Alexandria” twice and, when AOC didn’t stop walking, began shouting questions such as, “Why do you support terrorists and antifa?” She also labeled Black Lives Matter as a “terrorist” group and accused AOC of being afraid to defend her “radical socialist” beliefs in a debate.
  • AOC turned around once and threw her hands in the air “in an exasperated motion,” per the Post. Later, an AOC spokesperson said Greene “tried to begin an argument” with AOC, and when the latter “tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist sympathizer.” Added spokeswoman Lauren Hitt: “We hope leadership and the Sergeant at Arms will take real steps to make Congress a safe, civil place for all Members and staff—especially as many offices are discussing reopening.”
  • Greene called AOC a “chicken” after the incident. And on Twitter on Thursday, she wrote, “‘Ms. Defund The Police’ wants to call the police for security bc she’s afraid of debating with me about her socialist (Green New Deal.)” The Hill notes that Greene challenged AOC to a debate last month on the plan. In her Thursday tweet, Greene called AOC “a fraud & a hypocrite.”
  • This isn’t Greene’s first run-in with a congressional colleague. Democratic Rep. Cori Bush moved her office away from Greene’s after accusing Greene and her staff of berating her in a hallway. Greene said it was the other way around.
  • NBC News notes that the new confrontation meshes with Greene’s style of accosting political opponents verbally and in public. Before becoming a member of Congress, she posted a video of one such encounter with teenage gun-control advocate David Hogg outside the Capitol.

When will the House GOP step up and rein in this twat?

The House GOP leadership should do what is necessary to return some dignity to their side of the aisle…..but will they?

I vote to throw the bitch out on her nose……  severe sanction of expulsion has been employed in the House, the underlying conduct deemed to have merited removal from office has historically involved either disloyalty to the United States, or the violation of a criminal law involving the abuse of one’s official position, such as bribery.

Greene is doing all she can to stay in the news…..give her something to rail about….throw her out!

Until they take action they will continue to be the clown show of the Congress.

All she is doing is auditioning for a spot on FOX or OAN…she never intended to govern just perform.

Shed That Mask!

After a year of having to wear a mask (especially those that care about their health and that of others) the CDC has now issued some much needed good news….

A big move by the CDC: The agency on Thursday eased indoor mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people, allowing them to safely stop wearing masks inside in most places. The new guidance still calls for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons, and homeless shelters, but will help clear the way for reopening workplaces, schools, and other venues—even removing the need for masks or social distancing for those who are fully vaccinated, per the AP. The CDC will also no longer recommend that fully vaccinated people wear masks outdoors in crowds. The announcement comes as the CDC and the Biden administration have faced pressure to ease restrictions on fully vaccinated people—people who are two weeks past their last required COVID-19 vaccine dose—in part to highlight the benefits of getting the shot.
“This is a day that I think will be marked as a true turning point in the pandemic in the United States,” says Richard Besser, former acting director of the CDC, per the Washington Post. “The idea that people who are fully vaccinated can take off their masks, can go outside, can go inside, be around people, and not have to worry about COVID anymore, that’s absolutely huge.” Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the CDC, announced the new guidance on Thursday afternoon at a White House briefing, saying the long-awaited change is thanks to millions of people getting vaccinated—and based on the latest science about how well those shots are working. Just two weeks ago, the CDC recommended that fully vaccinated people continue to wear masks indoors in all settings and outdoors in large crowds.

This is great news for most people so they can get back to “normal” (whatever that means)….

There is a “but” for me.

I do not trust most people to be telling the truth about their vaccinations…..

I live in an area that fought the wearing of masks as an assault on the individual rights (those rights that make them stupid)…..

So I will be extra careful and avoid morons in a crowd.

Go have a life….but be safe….

We hear daily from the Trump Party about all those freeloaders that are getting off easy by getting their relief money and benefits…..that they are worthless because they use their money for luxury things like food, shelter and other necessities to live…..they are denigrated daily.

But not a word is said about those GOPers that pissed the money away….

California prosecutors are investigating abuse of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), the loans given to businesses suffering under the economic crisis ushered in from the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the New York Times, one person used the government handouts to purchase a Lamborghini, Bentley and Ferrari.

“The man, Mustafa Qadiri, 38, of Irvine, was indicted by a federal grand jury on four counts of bank fraud, four counts of wire fraud, one count of aggravated identity theft and six counts of money laundering, the U.S. attorney in the Central District of California announced,” said the Times.

An OpenSecrets search of Mr. Qadiri revealed he was an active Republican donor, who owns a venture capital firm, All American Capital Holdings, LLC.

Biden On Education (Again)

As I have been trying to keep my readers up to date on the plans and policies of the Biden admin I keep eye an a ear to the grind stone to make information available as soon as possible…

It is now official….Biden has released his plan….

Students would get four extra years of paid education under the White House’s new $1.8 trillion spending and tax plan, which would also provide paid family and medical leave for US workers. The “American Families Plan” may irk not only Republicans, but progressive Democrats, too. Here’s what in it and what’s not:

  • Child benefit extended: The enhanced child tax credit of at least $250 monthly per child, approved through the $1.9 trillion relief plan in March, is only temporarily extended through 2025, though President Biden has said it should be permanent, reports the Washington Post.
  • Free prekindergarten: All children would be entitled to free prekindergarten at ages 3 and 4 as part of a program the White House expects to cost $200 million over 10 years. Biden has promised to pay employees at least $15 per hour, up from the “typical $12.24 hourly rate” in 2020, per CNN.
  • Free community college: Two-year community colleges are also to be made tuition-free under a $109 billion program. The White House also plans to subsidize two-year tuition for students from families earning less than $125,000 enrolled at minority-serving institutions, including historically Black colleges. Progressives had been calling for free four-year tuition at public colleges and a large-scale canceling of student debt.
  • States would opt in: Individual states choosing to participate would be expected to pay 10% of the costs for the pre-K program initially, but eventually 50%. The federal government plans to cover 75% of community college education costs.
  • Increasing the Pell Grant: To assist low-income students at four-year institutions, which would “become comparatively more expensive,” per the Post, the White House is proposing a $1,400 boost in the maximum Pell Grant award. That represents a 20% increase, though Biden had pledged a 100% increase.
  • Paid family leave: Some $225 billion would be used to kickstart a national paid family and medical leave program, per the AP, though C. Nicole Mason of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research says twice as much funding would be needed to provide 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents. Another $200 billion would go to permanently reduce health insurance premiums for those covered by the Affordable Care Act.
  • What’s missing: There is no measure about reducing prescription drug prices, which was requested by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and progressive lawmakers, per CNN and the Post. Nor is there any measure to lower the Medicare enrollment age, which Biden has promised to do. There is also no estate tax increase.
  • How to pay: The White House expects to pay for this by raising the top tax rate from 37% to 39.6% and nearly doubling the tax rate on capital gains for Americans earning more than $1 million per year from 20% to 39.6%. It further expects to raise $700 billion over the decade by increasing IRS enforcement.
  • Republican opposition: The capital gains tax rate increase is among the measures “likely to face resistance on Capitol Hill,” per the Post. Republicans, upset to see some of former President Trump’s 2017 tax cut reversed, are generally concerned about big spending, especially after the White House unveiled a $2.3 trillion jobs and infrastructure proposal.
  • Making his case: Biden will try to calm fears while pitching what analysts say is “the most far-reaching reform of the US social safety net since the era of President Lyndon B Johnson in the 1960s” in his first address to Congress on Wednesday, per the BBC. Republican Sen. Tim Scott will then issue a rebuttal. “I look forward to … sharing Republicans’ optimistic vision for expanding opportunity and empowering working families,” he says.

I like most of his proposals…..but that does not make them so…..he still has a Senate to contend with and a couple of worthless Dems that will not get on board

When will the American people stop listening to bullshit and start realizing just how dangerous this country is becoming thanks to a society that is fucking awash in guns.

I realize the gun violence is so commonplace that it is barely noticeable…..

But really?

9 separate mass shootings in two days is becoming a truly pathetic norm for our society…..

A gunman opened fire at a family birthday party in Colorado Springs, leaving six people dead and a community in mourning.

“Words fall short to describe the tragedy that took place this morning,” Colorado Springs Police Chief Vince Niski said in a statement. “From the officers who responded to the shooting to the investigators still on scene, we are all left incredibly shaken.”
The suspected shooter — believed to be a boyfriend of one of the victims — is also dead, according to Colorado Springs Police.
 
At least 15 people were killed and 30 more injured in mass shootings since Friday night, according to CNN reporting and an analysis of data from Gun Violence Archive (GVA), local media and police reports.
 
Why do rational people allow this type of crime go on and on and few challenge the logic behind them?

Educational Stupidity

I have ranted many times on the problem of stupidity being taught to our children…instead to teaching the need for civics and history they instead want to pass on BS and misinformation to our children.

These two examples illustrate the stupidity that is being considered as part of the educational curriculum….

First from the great state of Louisiana……

A hearing erupted in laughter when one Republican legislator was compelled to tell another that “There’s no ‘good’ to slavery, though.”

The Louisiana House Education Committee held a hearing on HB 564 on Thursday, during which the bill’s author and committee chairman State Rep. Ray Garofalo was grilled by fellow Republican Rep. Stephanie Hilferty on the bill’s prohibition on “divisive concepts” in education.

Hilferty began by grilling Garofalo about the sources of complaints that led him to author the bill.

“Can you give examples of what they told you?” Hilferty asked.

Garofalo described teachers and parents complaining about “handouts” that they’d been given.

“Like what does the handout say?” Hilferty asked.

“Handouts saying the United States is a racist country, that corporations are inherently racist, and have a bias against…” Garofalo began, as Hilferty interrupted to ask “Can you share examples of these with the committee?”

The term indicts that there is and was NOTHING good about slavery.

Next stupidity comes from the great state of Idaho….a bill that would prohibit the teaching of racism….

A bill that would ban teaching critical race theory and other similar teachings in schools in Idaho is awaiting Gov. Brad Little’s signature. 

The bill, HB 377, passed in the state’s senate on Monday after passing through the house last week. It would prohibit public schools from teaching that “any sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin is inherently superior or inferior,” which it says can be found in critical race theory. 

The bill also bans teachings that argue that people should be treated differently based on things like race or gender and that people are not responsible for past actions committed by people who share their same demographics.

Tucker Is An Idiot

Recently FOX’s Tucker Carlson went on one of his moronic rants about the wearing of masks….about which I of course had to write about……https://lobotero.com/2021/04/28/closing-thought-28apr21/

Well his rant has not bode well for him…..

With vaccinations increasing, the CDC on Tuesday relaxed its guidelines on when masks are needed outdoors. The push to reduce mask-wearing outside had been gaining steam of late, though Tucker Carlson took the argument to a whole new level on his Fox News show Monday night, specifically in regard to children. He likened outdoor mask-wearing by kids to child abuse and urged viewers to call police if they see it. Coverage:

  • “Your response when you see children wearing masks as they play should be no different from your response to seeing someone beat a kid in Walmart,” he says, per Mediaite. “Call the police immediately, contact child protective services. Keep calling until someone arrives. What you’re looking at is abuse, it’s child abuse and you are morally obligated to attempt to prevent it.”
  • “If it’s your own children being abused, then act accordingly,” he continues. “Let’s say your kids school emailed you and announced that every day after lunch, your sixth grader was going to get punched in the face by a teacher. How would you respond to that? That’s precisely how you should respond when they tell you that your kids have to wear masks on the soccer field.”
  • And later, he drew an unexpected parallel between vaccinated adults wearing masks outdoors and, er, something else: Watching “a vaccinated person, someone with the antibodies wearing a mask outside is like watching a grown man expose himself in public,” he said, per a video clip at CNN. “That’s disgusting, put it away please. We don’t do that here.”
  • Politico Playbook complains that the suggestion to call the cops about kids wearing masks “was beyond the pale even for him, and especially strange for a self-styled anti-nanny state libertarian.” The blog’s post on all this begins, “Is Tucker Carlson losing his mind?”
  • Michael Luciano at Mediaite has a similar criticism: “Calling police or child protective services because a kid wears a mask outdoors is ridiculous and a waste of official resources, even if it’s just the dispatcher taking 20 seconds to mock the caller following Carlson’s advice.”
  • The right-wing site Twitchy notes that “it should go without saying that you shouldn’t actually report kids in masks to the police or CPS.” But, it adds, “the point that Carlson is making about zealots who insist on shaming people who refuse to wear masks outdoors” is being overlooked by Carlson’s critics. It cites this critical tweet in particular, which includes a video clip of Carlson’s comments. Read Carlson’s take in fuller version in this Fox News op-ed.
  • As for the risk of vaccinated people outdoors, Dr. Anthony Fauci over the weekend called it “minuscule,” notes the Hill. “I think it’s pretty common sense now that outdoor risk is really, really quite low, particularly—I mean, if you are a vaccinated person, wearing a mask outdoors, I mean, obviously, the risk is minuscule.” The new CDC guidelines reflect that, saying those who are vaccinated can skip the mask outdoors unless they’re in a crowd.

Since I live in a state that has a low IQ and after watching a few videos of morons challenging people with masks….and babbling about their rights….I figure it is only a matter of time before I am approached by some overweight in-bred moron about my masks….so decide instead of an argument I would just hand them a business card that says…..
