Seniors Have A Target On Their Backs

Closing Thought–18Aug20

If you are over 65 years of age and a Trump supporter I have a question for you.

He has done NOTHING since elected that would show any support for the elderly and their lives.

In two days Trump has crapped all over the seniors of this country…..

President Donald Trump on Thursday said he’d block new funding for the US Postal Service to limit efforts to expand mail-in voting, which he has claimed — without evidence — benefits Democrats.

“Now they need that money in order to make the post office work so it can take all of these millions and millions of ballots,” he said in an interview with Fox Business Network, adding that if it didn’t get the money, “that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting, because they’re not equipped to have it.”

Trump walked these comments back at an evening press briefing, saying, “If the bill isn’t going to get done, it means the post office isn’t going to get funded.”

I have been watching the antics around our seniors….basically because I am one I do not want any of my livelihood fucked with by this lying POS we have as president.

My last post on this…..

Better pay attention or your retirement life will be screwed and you as well…..

As the White House scrambles to contain the political backlash sparked by President Donald Trump’s latest threat to defund Social Security if reelected in November, one progressive advocacy group said Thursday that Trump’s long history of attacking the New Deal program means he should be taken at his word—and diligently opposed—when he openly states his intention to “terminate” the system’s revenue stream.

AS the 85th anniversary approach there is one thought and only one……”NO Damn Politician Should Be Allowed To Attack Social Security”……

When President Franklin Roosevelt signed Social Security into law 85 years ago today, he expressed hope that the program would offer Americans a “measure of protection” from the “hazards and vicissitudes of life.” True to FDR’s vision, Social Security has protected workers from some of the costliest hazards and vicissitudes of life—including loss of income from retirement, disability, and the death of a family breadwinner.  This year, though, Americans have faced “hazards and vicissitudes” unseen for one hundred years—a deadly global pandemic and the resulting economic fallout.  Now, as Social Security continues to provide basic financial security to 68 million Americans during this tumultuous time, the program itself needs protection.  Not only are Social Security’s resources strained by the pandemic; the program’s opponents seek to undermine and eventually dismantle it amid a national crisis.

Social Security is more crucial today than ever before. Employer-provided pensions have all but disappeared.  Income inequality rages.  Retirement savings are historically low while the cost of growing old has soared.  Most seniors depend on Social Security for the majority of their income.  Without Social Security, 40% of elderly Americans would live in poverty.

Are you seniors willing to screw yourself because of your hatred for “immigrants”…..if so you people are more stupid than I thought!

For God’s Sake….Learn Stuff!

Pay Attention!

2020 Dem Convention–Day One

I am trying to help all wanting to see what the DNC is all about this election…..I will be writing about the four day virtual get-together……

The most unusual political convention to date is underway—the Democrats’ all-virtual affair leading to the coronation of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on Thursday night. Michelle Obama and Bernie Sanders spoke Monday night, along with a rarity—a Republican, former Ohio governor (and 2016 presidential candidate) John Kasich, who attempted to appeal to disenfranchised members of his party. For future nights, live-streams are easy to find, including at the convention’s official website. From night one, some early highlights courtesy of the AP:

  • Michelle Obama: Biden was a “terrific vice president” and is a “profoundly decent man,” she said. “He knows what it takes to rescue an economy, beat back a pandemic and lead our country.” Of Trump, she added, “If you think things possibly can’t get worse, trust me, they can and they will if we don’t make a change in this election.” The AP calls her speech, which also referred to Trump as being “in over his head,” “uncharacteristically pointed and political.” Her plea to Americans: “Vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it.”
  • John Kasich: He said his status as a lifelong Republican “holds second place to my responsibility to my country.” Elaborating: “In normal times, something like this would probably never happen, but these are not normal times,” he said of his participation at the Democrats’ convention. “We can do better than what we’ve been seeing today, for sure. … Many of us can’t imagine four more years going down this path.” He also noted he does not believe Biden will turn “sharp left.”
  • Bernie Sanders: “My friends, I say to you, and to everyone who supported other candidates in this primary and to those who may have voted for Donald Trump in the last election: The future of our democracy is at stake. The future of our economy is at stake. The future of our planet is at stake.” He called on his progressive base to rally around Biden. “Our movement continues and is getting stronger every day. Many of the ideas we fought for, that just a few years ago were considered ‘radical,’ are now mainstream. But, let us be clear, if Donald Trump is reelected, all the progress we have made will be in jeopardy.” The AP notes his speech was an “unqualified endorsement” of Biden, in contrast to his speech at Hillary Clinton’s nominating convention in 2016.
  • George Floyd’s siblings: Philonise and Rodney Floyd led a moment of silence in honor of the Minnesota Black man killed by police.
  • Plus a bunch more: A lot more Democrats including New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar spoke, plus three more Republicans who back Biden: California businesswoman Meg Whitman, former New Jersey Gov. Christine Whitman, and former New York Congresswoman Susan Molinari. “This isn’t about Republican or Democrat. It’s about a person—a person decent enough, stable enough, strong enough to get our economy back on track,” said Christine Whitman. “Donald Trump isn’t that person. Joe Biden is.”
  • Virtual enthusiasm: Convention organizers tried to infuse a sense of excitement into the virtual event, getting actress Eva Longoria to emcee and airing several live speeches, though many of Monday night’s were pre-recorded. They also organized online watch parties that included celebrities and elected officials, and hosted drive-in viewing stations where people could watch the speeches from their cars.
  • Others who popped in: Americans whose lives have been impacted by Trump’s policies and practices, including a farmer concerned he will lose his livelihood and a woman whose 65-year-old father died of COVID-19, came on to frame the speakers. “His only preexisting condition was trusting Donald Trump, and for that, he paid with his life,” said the grieving daughter.
  • Meanwhile: Trump was holding his own rally in Wisconsin, where the DNC was originally scheduled to be held before it went virtual amid the coronavirus pandemic. He told the crowd, per Rolling Stone, “We are going to win four more years. And then after that, we’ll go for another four years because they spied on my campaign. We should get a redo of four years.” The magazine notes the FBI has refuted that claim about 2016. “The only way we’re going to lose this election is if the election is rigged,” Trump added.
  • And also: The POTUS, who also appeared in Minnesota Monday night, went on quite a tweetstorm as the DNC’s opening night was drawing to a close; he retweeted quite a few less-than-flattering takes on Cuomo’s appearance in particular.

Onto Night Two……

Those “Never Trumpers”

Conservs that are working as hard as the Dems to get Trump out of office this November….but to what end?

Remember the old saying….”Beware of Greeks Bearing gifts”……

I wrote a warning to the Dems about embracing the “Never Trumpers”…….Please read my thoughts first…….

Now the American Conservative (who would have thought that I of all people would be using a conservative site as a tool?)

TAC is warning that the Neocons that are part of the “Never Trump” movement should not be trusted…..

Never-Trumper Republicans have been worming their way into the Biden campaign, offering to flesh out his “coalition” ahead of the election and pushing their way into the foreign policy discussions, particularly on China. Given their shared  history with the liberal interventionists already in the campaign, don’t for a second think that there aren’t hungry neoconservatives among them trying to get a seat at the table.

“Some hawkish Democrats may see the neocons as convenient allies in preserving an outdated interventionist mindset,” offers Matt Duss, who is Sen. Bernie Sanders’ longtime foreign policy advisor and maintains close ties with the Democratic campaign to replace President Trump. “And of course neocons are desperate for any opportunity to salvage their own relevance.”

To those who oppose Trump and support his Democratic opponent, The Lincoln Project’s frontal assault on the president, along with the mainstream headline-grabbing Republican Voters Against Trump PAC, are manna from heaven. But to those of us who were called “unpatriotic conservatives” for failing to goose step with the neoconservatives dominating Washington before the Iraq War—many of whom are soaring around this never-never land right now—this may be a warning from below.

Duss was responding to a Daily Beast report last week which quoted unnamed “individuals who work for conservative think tanks in Washington” who have acknowledged “informally speaking with members of the Biden team in recent weeks.” The focus appears to be on the failing China trade deal and Trump’s supposed weak posture. Reportedly, they are “so frustrated with the U.S-China trade deal and the administration’s efforts to hold Beijing accountable that they are willing to offer counsel to the Democratic nominee.”

Neoconservative Wolves Dressed in Never-Trumper Clothing

Dems have been warned….but are they listening….or is their haste to replace Trump making them more stupid than normal?

My thought it is the later.

This movement, in my opinion, is true conservs that do not see a future in the GOP….they need to work to rid themselves of all those that enabled Trump or their work will be for naught.

Where Will Next War Be?

There are a couple of spots and/or situations that could very well be the next location for an major armed conflict……

First there is the chest thumping on China…..right now it appears to be a new Cold War but could that change?

Washington appears to have decided to engage in a new cold war with China. The demand that Beijing close its consulate in Houston is the latest salvo on this front—reciprocated by China ordering the closure of the U.S. consulate in Chengdu—with every step increasing the possibility of stumbling into a military conflict between the world’s two largest economies. An immediate policy course-correction may be the only thing that can pull Washington and Beijing back from the brink.

To be clear, China has engaged in behaviors antithetical to U.S. interests in recent years. It has long been tepid on combating intellectual property theft. It has unequivocally said that it is willing to use force to solve the “Taiwan problem.” It has reversed course on promised freedoms for Hong Kong residents. Plus, Beijing’s initial attempts to hide the coronavirus facilitated the virus’s spread. But there is an effective way—and a destructive way—to deal with such issues. Washington appears to have chosen the latter.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was in London in July trying to “build out a coalition” against China. The intent, Pompeo said, is to “work collectively to convince the Chinese Communist Party that it is not in their best interest to engage in this kind of behavior.” Prior to this visit—and before ordering China to close its consulate in Houston—the United States had already taken inflammatory actions against China, including removing Hong Kong’s special trading status, sanctioning Chinese officials, blaming China for the fallout over the coronavirus, increasing naval activity to challenge China’s claims in the South China Sea.

Next is an old reliable foe for the US….Iran……and October looks like the perfect month for a new conflict…..

Was Donald Trump’s January 3rd drone assassination of Major General Qasem Soleimani the first step in turning the simmering Cold War between the United States and Iran into a hot war in the weeks before an American presidential election? Of course, there’s no way to know, but behind by double digits in most national polls and flanked by ultra-hawkish Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Trump is a notoriously impetuous and erratic figure. In recent weeks, for instance, he didn’t hesitate to dispatch federal paramilitary forces to American cities run by Democratic mayors and his administration also seems to have launched a series of covert actions against Tehran that look increasingly overt and have Iran watchers concerned about whether an October surprise could be in the cards.

Could Covert War With Iran Become Overt Before November 3rd?

Lastly the next possibility may be over a resource and not anything else…..

Disputes over fisheries could spark the next war. The Indonesian government is blowing up foreign vessels found to be fishing illegally. In the Gulf of Aden, fishing vessels are conduits for arming rebel and terrorist groups. In Latin America, illegal fishing and the drug trade are linked. In the South China Seas, territorial conflict between the Philippines, Vietnam, China, and other regional nations is inflaming tensions over fishing grounds and increasing the risk of major conflict. It is important to better understand the causes and consequences of fisheries conflict – including which ones could ignite armed disputes and which will fizzle out.

One Earth Future (OEF) today announced the creation of the Fisheries Conflict Research Consortium (FCRC) to investigate this issue and answer key questions relating to fisheries conflict, marine resource sustainability, and national security.

Of course there are conflicts all over the globe and at any time one or more could devolve into a shooting war….and IST will be watching….so you do not have to…..
