Facebook In The News

Closing Thought–03May19

Everybody’s favorite site, Facebook, well almost everyone’s….I have NEVER used Facebook and will never in the future….I do not feel the need to share that much of my life……

Poor Zuck has had his bad news in the past couple of years….from investigations to calls for his baby, Facebook, to be broken up…..The Zuck has fought governmental control until recently…..with all his troubles he now wants the government to handle all of it for him…….typical BS as usual from him.

Facebook made the news by banning hate speech and hate sites from their media……

Facebook announced Thursday afternoon that it had designated some high-profile people, including Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who’s notorious for using anti-Semitic language, and right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, as “dangerous” and said it will be purging them from its platforms.Jones and his media outlet InfoWars had previously been banned from Facebook (FB) in August 2018, but had maintained a presence on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. On Thursday, Jones and InfoWars will be barred from Instagram as well. Other people banned on Thursday included Paul Nehlen, an anti-Semite who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2016 and 2018, and fringe right-wing media personalities Laura Loomer, Milo Yiannopoulos and Paul Joseph Watson.

Of course I think this is a good thing….but I also see where a 1st amendment battle may ensue…..

Then there is more bad news for Facebook….it appears that their platform has been used for the sell of illegally obtain artifacts from Iraq and Syria……….

Facebook is being used by networks of traffickers to buy and sell looted antiquities, the BBC has learned.

Private groups also discuss how to illegally excavate ancient tombs, according to research by academics.

Facebook says it has removed 49 groups following the BBC’s investigation.

The BBC has also seen evidence that antiquities are still being smuggled from Iraq and Syria into Turkey, despite a police clampdown and the retreat of the Islamic State group.

Read that!

Facebook closed down 49 sites after the BBC investigation. They do not act until someone else does the heavy lifting for them.

Sorry…time for Facebook to be broken up into manageable sites for they are not so today. What do they do for the money they make?

The time for me to step back and get my stuff ready for the weekend…..

Say Good Bye To The EPA

Almost daily we hear some story of how Trump, our Supreme Leader, is destroying the EPA and in turn destroying our fragile environment.

Let’s be honest Trump is doing his best for his corporate handlers and does not seem to give one whit about the environment as long as their is money to be made.

Do you agree?

Good!

Then let me go a little further…….Trump is destroying the EPA but Obama had his part in it as well……yes that is Obama with an “O”……

It was a tumultuous tenure, productive by some accounts, lackluster by most, but one thing is for certain, Lisa Jackson’s short time as administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency was anything but dull. On December 27, 2012 the often-fiery Jackson announced she was not going to return for a second term, and it is surely not difficult to see why she’s fleeing her post.

Since President Obama was ushered into office in 2008, the EPA has consistently faced ridicule and criticism from corporate polluters and their greedy allies in Washington. On virtually every occasion Obama refused to side with Jackson’s more rationale, often science-based positions, whether it was cleaning up the air or forcing the natural resource industries to abide by existing regulations. Ultimately, the EPA is only as formidable as the White House allows it to be, and on Obama’s watch the agency has not received the support it has desired or deserved.

https://www.counterpunch.org/2019/04/26/how-obama-defanged-the-epa-before-trump-gutted-the-agency/

Granted the EPA would have been a target for Trump but to leave out Obama’s part is just outright disingenuous.

The destruction will be complete if Trump gets a second term…..and the damage will not be repaired for many years….if ever.

Can the country afford to lose our fragile environment?

And where is the Green New Deal ….with respect to the EPA?

Parts of the Green New Deal……

Achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions through a fair and just transition for all communities and workers

Secure for all people of the United States for generations to come: clean air and water; climate and community resiliency; healthy food; access to nature; and a sustainable environment

How will these parts be policed and instituted?

Questions need answers!

Big Business In America

Awhile back in my comment section our conversation turned to underage brides….and then I read a research paper about the industry of underage sex here in America.

On that point I need to correct something I wrote…..I said that Montana was allowing child brides and I was mistaken…..here is the facts….

Montana law sets the minimum age for marriage at 16 years old with judicial approval and 18 without it. Most states set the minimum age at 18 with exceptions for those between the ages of 16 and 18, according to a recent survey from the National Conference of State Legislatures comparing the marriage laws in all 50 states.

I apologize for passing on bad info…I will attempt to do better.

Underage sex in the US!

This is America’s dirty little secret.

Sex trafficking—especially when it comes to the buying and selling of young girls—has become big business in America, the fastest growing business in organized crime and the second most-lucrative commodity traded illegally after drugs and guns.

As investigative journalist Amy Fine Collins notes,

“It’s become more lucrative and much safer to sell malleable teens than drugs or guns. A pound of heroin or an AK-47 can be retailed once, but a young girl can be sold 10 to 15 times a day—and a ‘righteous’ pimp confiscates 100 percent of her earnings.”

Consider this: every two minutes, a child is exploited in the sex industry.

According to USA Today, adults purchase children for sex at least 2.5 million times a year in the United States.

Who buys a child for sex? Otherwise ordinary men from all walks of life.

They could be your co-worker, doctor, pastor or spouse,” writes journalist Tim Swarens, who spent more than a year investigating the sex trade in America.

In Georgia alone, it is estimated that 7,200 men (half of them in their 30s) seek to purchase sex with adolescent girls each month, averaging roughly 300 a day.

This situation is despicable and yet it is a booming business…..and few Americans seem to care….time for this to come out of the shadows by shining the light of justice (maybe not with this DoJ)……

How does the MSM miss a story like this?

I know why….but do you?

Testing The Monroe Doctrine

Venezuela is all the foreign service people can talk about these days…..analyst like myself see a different scope to this situation than the Trump administration…..

I see this situation as a test for the 200 year old Monroe Doctrine……is there a history buff handy to explain it to you?

No?

Well let me fill that position with a couple of short videos that can made it simple and easily understandable…..

Another look……

If there are those that appreciate the hard work it takes to keep a blog up to date….I have a few post that also talks about this “Doctrine”……

https://lobotero.com/2010/04/21/the-monroe-doctrine-again/

https://lobotero.com/2018/09/12/theres-always-the-monroe-doctrine/

The US has used this document to do a lot of things in the Western hemisphere……mostly they were about regime change…..and most were assaults of duly elected leaders….leaders that corporate America did not want to continue……

The situation and the rhetoric in DC about Venezuela is testing the Monroe Doctrine yet again……

The threats that failing governments and foreign influence pose to the United States have not been the norm in the Western hemisphere. Since the institution of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823, the United States has opposed efforts by European and other powers to meddle in the United States’ backyard, keeping a watchful eye on its neighbors. There has been much turmoil the last fifty years — Pinochet’s reign in Chile, the civil war in El Salvador, drug-fueled gang violence in Colombia, and others, are all conflicts that divided nations, destabilized the region, and engrossed the world.

Despite the violence and attention, Latin American conflicts have generated, the United States was largely successful in limiting influence from foreign nations and overseas organizations seeking to exploit these conflicts and undermine the integrity and influence of the United States. Now, the Monroe Doctrine faces perhaps its most challenging test yet: recent unrest in Venezuela. The growing discontent in the country has reached a boiling point, with the specter of civil war looming and national security concerns that threaten the safety of the United States.

Once again the US is using an aging document to justify their interference into the internal affairs of a sovereign nation…this is regime change for the sake of regime change….nothing more.

To illustrate this pointy…..
After a failed US-backed coup on Wednesday, the Trump Administration is visibly losing patience on its determination to impose regime change in Venezuela. While still giving lip-service to the idea that the US can force a “peaceful” exchange of power through sheer force of will, they are also talking up direct military intervention.

The always hawkish John Bolton was of course the most open about this possible US attack, saying that he’s been told by Admiral Faller that US troops are “on the balls of our feet ready to go” into Venezuela.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and others only suggested that invading Venezuela was “possible,” but talking up the intervention in such a way as to suggest that a lot more possible after that failed coup.

Adding to speculation that such a war could be imminent, acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has cancelled his planned trip to Europe at the last minute, with officials saying he needs to stay to coordinate policy on Venezuela.

Gen. Joe Dunford, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, says that the focus right now is on collecting intelligence on Venezuela. How successful they are being is unclear, as officials seemed to assume that coup was going to be successful.
