Closing Thought–04Sep19

We all, well most all, grew up with the values that our parents instilled into us…..for me it was patriotism and country more than anything else…..I was taught that this is a country for all and that I should work to that end…..and I have watched those values slowly erode away…..to an ugly shadow of its former self.

Erode to the point that my values are no longer the focus of the country…..

The values Americans consider “very important” are undergoing fundamental shifts, according to a new poll by the Wall Street Journal and NBC News. However, one thing hasn’t changed from a similar survey 21 years ago: “Hard work” was at the top then (83%), and it remains at the top now (89%), per Axios. But beyond that, attitudes are shifting:

  • Patriotism: The percentage who consider it very important dropped from 70% in 1998 to 61%.
  • Religion: This dropped from 62% to 48%.
  • Having kids: Down from 59% to 43%.
  • Money: Up from 31% to 41%.
  • Community involvement: Up from 47% to 62%.
  • Age divide: Age of respondents is a big factor. For example, 79% of those older than 55 say patriotism is very important. For those 18 to 38, the figure drops to 42%, per the Hill. A similar age divide occurred in the ranking of the importance of religion.
  • A takeaway: “There’s an emerging America where issues like children, religion and patriotism are far less important,” Republican pollster Bill McInturff tells the Journal. “And in America, it’s the emerging generation that calls the shots about where the country is headed.”

Fascinating how times and ideals change.

Also fascinating that the political parties are not addressing the values of the voters anymore……only what gets them votes no matter how outlandish they are.

The values of the donors are more important than those of the average voter.

Maybe you should take that under advisement when you decide where to place your vote.

Making American (History) Great Again–Part 35

For almost a year how I have been giving my readers an “alternate” look at American history…..that is not what the mainstream media and most reactionary history teachers are willing to depart to the people.

Maj. Sjersen is a historian and history professor and his series is well worth the time to read and get the “rest of the story” when it comes to American history……in case you have missed the series then this will help get you caught up…..

Part 1; Part 2; Part 3; Part 4; Part 5; Part 6; Part 7; Part 8; Part 9; Part 10;Part 11; Part 12; Part 13; Part 14; Part 15; Part 16; Part 17; Part 18; Part 19; Part 20; Part 21; Part 22; Part 23; Part 24; Part 25; Part 26; Part 27; Part 28; Part 29; Part 30; Part 31; Part 32; Part 33; Part 34.

As the 20th century churns to a close we elected the most corporate friendly president, Bill Clinton…..and he is a Democrat.

I did not vote for Clinton and did not approve or support his policies……his policies created the crash of 2008…..his policies lead to the creation of the corporate media that now controls all we see and hear……

He was bright, he knew the details of domestic policy in and out, and he was a natural politician. William Jefferson Clinton, the “man from Hope,” Ark., grew up poor and rose to spectacular and unexpected heights. But he was also deeply insecure and obsessively needed to be liked, and, ultimately, it was unclear just what, if anything, the man believed in. Although Bill Clinton dreamed of being a great president, in the vein (he thought) of John F. Kennedy and Franklin D. Roosevelt, his abundant ambition was not enough to produce that result. But whatever his failures as a leader and a person, he reached voters, “felt their pain” and, on the surface at least, seemed to possess a common touch, an everyman empathy that drew multitudes to him. Having grown up among black people in Arkansas, he seemed particularly comfortable around African Americans, leading the famed novelist Toni Morrison to dub him “the first black president.” In time, she, and many of  her fellow African Americans, undoubtedly came to regret those words as Clinton’s rather conservative, “New Democrat” policies proved to be disastrous for most blacks in the United States.

American History for Truthdiggers: Bill Clinton, the ‘New Democrat’

This series a terrific look into the making of this country and the people.

Biden Stands Strong(?)

I wish I was talking about him standing strong behind some good progressive policies but in this case I am talking about him struggling to defend his lie.

Which lie is that, professor?  Let me remind you what lie……https://lobotero.com/2019/08/30/bidens-new-gaff/

Biden is basically saying that his LIE does not matter……

Last week, the Washington Post detailed how Joe Biden had jumbled up three different war stories into one as part of a campaign anecdote about the bravery of troops. Biden initially defended the accuracy of his account, but he’s now acknowledging the flub while calling it meaningless in the grand scheme, reports NPR. “The details are irrelevant in terms of decision-making,” Biden says in an interview with Asma Khalid. The 76-year-old has long been prone to gaffes, but he says voters should not be concerned. When pressed on the details in the war story, for example, he said: “That has nothing to do with judgment of whether or not you send troops to war, the judgment of whether you bring someone home, the judgment of whether you decide on a health care policy.”

Politico has more from the same interview: “‘The fact that I would forget that it was [Maj. Gen. David] Rodriguez who was pinning—I believe this is the case—pinning a bronze star on a young man was—it’s irrelevant to the point,” he tells Khalid. At the Hill, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, a Biden ally, says the media is making too big a deal of the former VP’s slip-ups. Americans don’t care, he argues. Biden’s gaffes “are not outright lies; they’re likely the result of a faulty memory or some confusion about the facts,” writes Rendell. The man he wants to replace, by contrast, is a “Liar-in-Chief,” he writes.

He LIED!  That MATTERS!

If his memory is faulty then is he a good candidate?

If the LIES are not important then why is lies a big deal when he talks about Trump?

This most recent LIE is not his first……there is his lie about the Iraq invasion and occupation…..

Count his role in supporting the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq as another part of Joe Biden’s long political career that the former vice president—who voted for the war as a senator—doesn’t quite remember correctly.

In an interview with NPR published Tuesday morning, Biden told reporter Asma Khalid that he opposed the war from the very moment it began in March of 2003 despite voting for its authorization just months earlier.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/09/03/flat-out-lying-critics-reject-biden-effort-re-write-history-his-support-us-invasion

He was against it from the beginning seems to be a popular stand these days…if all that is true then how did they get enough votes to authorize the war?

All this makes Biden a non-candidate in my book…..he will say whatever he needs to say to the audience of the day to gain the nomination.

There is NO difference between Biden and Trump just he is less disgusting than the other.  The media is reporting that Biden’s gaff is not a problem with the hinterland voter…..if true then there is a problem when lying is totally acceptable…at least for me….if he, Biden, will lie about this what else will he lie about to the voter.

If the media is correct then it will explain the sad shape of this nation when lie make NO difference.

For now I am sticking with my choice of candidates and if that fails and Biden becomes the nominee then I shall look toward a alternative.

I Hate Cowards

Especially political cowards….and that is what we have now in DC…..a pack of spineless, whimpering cowards that will allow violations of the Constitution just to appease their donors, their controllers, their puppet masters.

Sorry but that is NOT who I want to run my government.

Of course I am talking about the GOP and Repubs/conservs……the elected reps and the supporting public are silent as the President violates the Constitution almost daily……all because the agenda is far more important that the nation and its people to the GOP.

That’s the rub, though. Most of the chickenbutt Senate Republicans looking to be re-elected in 2020 from safe red states aren’t sweating a potential Democratic challenger. What keeps them up late at night with Pepto in hand is the threat of a primary challenge from the right. All of them live in terror that some fire-breathing MAGA hat with an AR-15 strapped to his back will come along howling “Trump uber alles!” and strip their party’s base support down to the bone.

https://truthout.org/articles/the-republican-party-is-a-pack-of-cowards/

The GOP is not alone in the crowded cowards field…..the DNC/Dems/liberals are just as guilty as the GOP……they talk and talk and yet let it go on as it is….

…..modern U.S. politics can be summed up in seven words: Republicans are liars and Democrats are cowards. Today I propose the 2018 Corollary: Republicans are liars and cowards; Democrats are cowards and stupid.

It takes quite a bit to outdo the Democrats in cowardice, since Bill Clinton renamed it “triangulation,” but the Republican Congress and revolving-door Trump Cabinet members have done it: They have redefined cowardice.

The word not so long ago was regarded as a shameful trait for any human being: either simple fear, or failure to stand up for one’s rights and beliefs.

(Robert Kahn)

Then there are the evangelicals.  By far the largest conservative collection of voters and by far the most cowardly of them all……morality means nothing as long as the racist BS is pursued….that makes them the biggest cowards.

But the DNC comes in a close 3rd…….

The latest shakeup over a lack of diversity in senior leadership at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee shows that House Democrats’ campaign arm remains out of touch with the values of its grassroots Democratic voters.

This first became evident in March when DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos announced a “blacklist” policy, which sought to stifle the people-powered democratic process by requiring political consultants to sign a loyalty pledge to incumbent Democrats. Recent comments from black and Latino lawmakers about a lack of diversity in senior leadership, as well as complaints about a tone-deaf approach to issues relating to race, show that the DCCC continues to refuse to evolve and change. Instead, there seems to be an implicit policy of silencing new voices and sidelining historically marginalized communities in order to protect the power of the status quo.

Beating Trump is the most important thing in 2020…if so then why is Schumer doing all he can to keep Progressives off the ballot?

Months after the DCCC formally announced it would blacklist consultants who work with primary challengers against incumbent Democrats, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee—controlled by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer—is reportedly taking the policy of its House counterpart “one step further” by undermining progressive candidates attempting to flip Republican-held seats.

The Intercept reported Thursday that Andrew Romanoff, a Medicare for All and Green New Deal supporter running for Sen. Cory Gardner’s (R-Colo.) seat, has had “multiple consultants” turn down offers to work on his campaign due to “pressure from the DSCC.”

All the keep “corporatist” elected people in place….change will not come….so stop hoping.

In closing one thought……We need a political system that works for the people, not the deep-pocketed special interests.
