10th Anniversary

Did everyone have a great day yesterday?

The day after…I do hope that everyone had a pleasant and happy Christmas…..I apologize for my laziness during this last week or so….I have been up to my butt in prep work for teaching and of course the prep work for the big day….I do hope that all will understand the absence at times…..thank you.

A decade ago my life changed….a change that would have a lasting effect on my life as I go forward…….

Ten years ago today I fell from a ladder while working in a house damaged by Hurricane Katrina…..the fall broke my right leg in 5 places and my right hand (concrete is extremely hard)……after 2 operations and lots of rehab I had to retire….that was the hardest part of the accident…..learning to deal with a bum leg and retirement.

I did what many people do….I started feeling sorry for myself and playing with depression….you see I began to believe that my usefulness was at an end…..the more I thought about it the deeper I sank into depression and self-pity…..

After about a year I thought my days of writing political commentary were over…I was never a big computer user….that is until I discovered blogging.  That was perfect for my mental rehab and my source of commentary….

I thought that I was going to just sit and wait for the days to click by until my dirt nap….blogging gave me an outlet and a new outlook on retirement….and as they say….”the rest is history”……

It is Saturday and one of my days that I post on anything but the daily news…..so go out and enjoy the rest of your days off and Monday will begin again…..

  1. How good the life turned out to be after all, Chuq – a true example of that worn out saying “Every cloud has a silver lining” – good going and cheers 🙂

  2. I understand…..6 years go I grappled with a disc protrusion….no op for me!
During the last 6 years I have been up and down, with some months clear and others months cursing my luck…
Alas, 6 months ago I took a turn for the worse and at the moment I have no knee reflexes and dead legs which ache considerably…..
A bummer for someone like me who was always very fit,and I mean very fit……handstands and back bends were no problem for me….grin….
I have always trained hard…..part of the job.
So,I took to the computer and roamed around the blogs….where upon I bumped into gigoid the dubious through another blog and then you via gigoid……..
I have always been a political animal…justice and all that…..
I do not write a blog….I rather like ‘clouting’ on the comments section…and of course I like the community feel
    and the different comments/exchanges……..
Nothing like a good ‘clout’ grin
Especially with distance……makes one feel omnipresent…good for the ‘ego’
    What’s left of it,that is….redundancy is a bleak feeling…
    So,there you have it…..
In the mean time it is yet another MRI scan and the possibility of an op….ggggrrrrr
I hate doctors…profoundly….( yeah, I know they are good at fixing things, sometimes )
I have a ritmscenar device which is wonderful. It cuts off the nerve surges which can cripple one with pain….
I could not live without it…a Russian invention…smile.
    So,upwards and onwards..
It could be worse…..I could be living in Syria/Iraq/Pakistan/Saudi/Africa etc
    So,I am grateful…
    😉

    1. Lady Penelope, cheri ami…

I just wrote a response to chuq’s post, which is also meant for you to read, and know…. See it below, or above, wherever the WP editor puts it, please…

It’s all honest truth, to you both….

      gigoid, not currently dubious

      😎

  3. chuq…. as another new blogger friend would say…. SMilLES…FRiEnD….

Your experiences, rather more immediately traumatic than mine, (mine took longer to build into the current state in which I find myself…), and, Lady P. experiences, seemed to have brought us all to the same point, into a “karras”, a circle of life’s acquaintances whose thread weaves in and out of the tapestry of life, but, together, form an unbreakable circle in/with each other’s lives… There are people in our lives whom, when we meet them, seem to have always been there, right with us, just not seen. If we part for 20, 30, 50 years, and meet again, (as we do…), we resume the conversation/song we make together without a pause, as if never parted at all…. That’s how you know them….

All of us have gotten to this point, and been, literally, and figuratively, saved by the blogging/reading blogs process from the specter of madness…. which I see as a new way for people of like minds to find each other….thus, making that human connection we all NEED….

Lady P. forwarded a Tweet to us a few days ago, from the Dalai Lama, posted by another Twitter user, confirming that…. He said, “We can live without religion or meditation. We cannot live without human affection.”….

I love you, brother…. and, Lady P. too…. differently, perhaps, than the love all of us feel for our fellow humans, and, in my mind, more so…. but, certainly no less than compassion and kindness call for….

Honesty, duty, empathy, compassion….all lead logically, and spiritually to kindness… To me, both of you possess all of these in ample quantity, and makes me not proud, but, grateful to have found you in my own karras….

gigoid, not dubious at all about that…..

    😎

    1. You are sweet, gigoid the not so dubious after all….
Forget the duty….been there done that….
In fact my so called ‘duty’ is to myself…..
I shall be born again in the coming year…somewhat pickled…smile…seasons greetings…
As I watch Isis training up the next generation who are only 3/4/5/6/7/87/9/10 years of old and that wretched burka being worn by the younger generation in Birmingham Leeds and Bradford…..hail to integration…
In the meantime ‘a toast to the idiots’
and a few Hail Marys to boot…
      grin

      1. 🙂

But for one small/huge item… Hear, hear! and, I’m good to go with all of it…

I will point out, as I have many times, Duty can ONLY be a choice; it is never given, and can only be accepted, by choice… You have chosen to practice YOUR Duty, and foregone looking for it elsewhere… that’s all… Which is perfectly modeled, fine with me, and, well done, milady…

        😉

gigoid, not at all dubious, under correctly applied conditions, outside the lab….

        😎
