I am always looking for ways to help Americans and my readers to understand what they hear daily in the news….believe it or not everything i not as clear cut as politicians and pundits would like you to think…..
I tried to help with the understanding of the term “The Great Satan”…..its origin and use…..and now another one of those terms that is used incessantly is “jihad”……
We all know the term…but we actually do not know the term at all…..
It’s time to deconstruct the media’s false representation of Muslims and Jihad.

Keep in mind….on 9/11 the hijackers not only hijacked some planes but they also hijacked a whole religion……
I feel like American sentiments wrt jihad and Islam are extremely oversimplified and generally show the ignorance of most Americans regarding Islam and the Middle East. There are many reasons why fundamentalism arose and it was actually aided by the actions of the US and has taken on an anti-US stance mostly because of US intervention in the region which is very pro-Israel.
It also does not represent the whole Muslim faith (and by the way does anyone else think it’s very narcissistic for Americans to believe that a religion that is over 1000 years old exists merely to fly planes into American buildings?) and American Islamophobia really makes me angry because it’s so pervasive and stinks of characteristic American ignorance. Why are people using the falsity that Obama is a Muslim as an insult? Why are there people who believe that a Muslim cannot be president? The fundamentalists do not define the religion, something that America should understand since it has a Christian majority and Christian fundamentalists have given the faith a bad rep as well (although maybe not since CF originated in America).
Thanx for your thoughts…..you are correct Americans are extremely ignorant and the media does little to change that….I try to change that and it is an uphill journey….
