Until It Isn’t–A Poem

So begins another weekend of silent meditation and relaxation…..I do enjoy my weekends……

In my younger years I was somewhat a poet…..nothing famous….just a way to express life as it went by…….so I have a love for poetry even though I am not very good at it……

I want to give you a poem written by a Palestinian, Remi Kanazi……

Until It Isn’t

death becomes exciting
tolls, pictures, videos
tweeting carnage
instagramming collapse
hearts racing to break

24-hour entertainment
every glimpse, splinter
and particle of pain
jammed into torsos
and cheekbones

loved ones
want to sit
for a minute
and cry quietly

no words, no poetry
before Internet and
dialed-up emotions
before black and
white ideologies

before a person
I called friend
defended massacres
before the victims
were laid to rest
before chemical weapons
ravaged insides
before refugee
meant grandmother

suffering 2.0
keyboard clicks
like bombs so effortlessly

all damage collateral
never personal
voyeurs hop on and off
like carnival rides

death becomes
until it isn’t
until boredom sets in
and desensitization begins
until the next ride emerges
somewhere else
more captivating

This poem is from a book of poetry…….

Remi Kanazi’s poetry brings to life the experience of Palestinians living under occupation and in exile, refusing to be erased and struggling for liberation. In his new collection, Before the Next Bomb Drops, Kanazi covers topics ranging from police brutality, Islamophobia and institutional racism in the United States to the wars created by US foreign policy. Iraq: If Only We Had The Money

It is well known that Iraq is fighting a horrible battle with ISIS for control of the country……there are many problems encountered like the cost of the war, money for rebuilding infrastructure, etc…..and so far their oil production even with the war raging is up for FY 2015 so far……

Iraq’s crude oil production climbed to an all-time high of 4.18 million barrels a day in July, according to statistics from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

This was up from the 4.15 million bpd produced in June.

The southern oilfields accounted for exports of 3.06 million bpd, up about 40,000 barrels from June.

Then there is the cost of 36 American war planes scheduled to be delivered to Iraq in the very near future……

Lockheed Martin Corp this week will deliver the first of 36 F-16 fighter jets to Iraq, marking what Baghdad‘s envoy to the United States called a “new chapter” in his country’s ability to defend its vast borders with Iran and other neighbors.

Iraqi Ambassador Lukman Faily will travel to Lockheed’s Fort Worth, Texas, plant on Thursday for a ceremony at which Lockheed and the US government will formally deliver the first F-16 to Iraq.

Baghdad has also signed military contracts with Russia and the Czech Republic, among others, and has said it will not be able to fully defend its airspace until 2020.

Iraq also plans to buy Boeing Co Apache helicopters and other weapons from the US government as it assumes responsibility for its own defense and counterterrorism efforts.

Faily said the US government appreciated the urgency and scale of the challenge that Iraqi is facing given continued and mounting strife with insurgents.

(Who is flying these planes since the Iraqi Air Force is damn near non-existent?)

All that makes perfect sense….Iraq is trying to buy its way to success against ISIS….but then a recent development made me a bit apprehensive…..

It appears that Iraq may be near to bankrupt…….

Iraq’s ability to fight Islamic State extremists who control roughly a third of the country is hampered by a financial crisis that’s left the Baghdad government operating “hand to mouth,” Iraqi Ambassador Lukman Faily warned this week.

The inability to pay salaries on time to the soldiers and militiamen fighting the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, has hurt morale and hindered progress in operations to retake key hubs that were captured by the jihadists, Faily said in an interview Thursday. And belt-tightening measures such as consolidating government ministries threaten to exacerbate ethnic and sectarian tensions by upsetting the delicate power-sharing quota system that’s been in place since the U.S.-led occupation authority took charge following the invasion of 2003.

If Iraq is running production at all time highs then why is it in so much financial trouble?  My guess…..the PSAs.  Production Sharing Agreements (PSA)…..a way for oil companies to screw the host country out of a share of the profits…..in other words oil companies among others are leading the way to Iraqi bankruptcy.

In case you would like more info on the PSAs….I covered it back in 2007….

What Middle Class? | The American Conservative

Since the end of world War 2 the industrial engine of the US has been on the backs of the middle class…..everyone. politicians that is, wants to embrace the middle class and speaks to them at every outing……but in the last couple of decades this system has been slowly strangling the middle class out of existence……

I am concerned that once the middle class is eliminated then the political elites will take complete control and we know where that will lead…..we are already flirting with a very ugly political ideology……and the path we are on today will lead to the extinction of the middle class once and for all…..

I read this article in the American Conservative and found it an interesting piece with some excellent insights…..check it out and then tell me what you think….

Everyone loves the middle class. Everyone claims to be middle-class—some to put a gloss on their sketchy escutcheons, others to dodge chastisement for their awkward riches.

Is the Middle Class doomed?  Is there hope it can be saved?  If so, then who will save it?

The Saudi Problem | The National Interest Blog

Today is the 14th anniversary of the dastardly attacks by terrorists on American soil….please take a moment and remember those that died on that day and their families…..Thank you!

Saudi Arabia……today is the perfect day to post on the kingdom….why?…..some blame the Saudis for the attacks of 9/11….even going so far as to claim that they financed the entire terrorist operation…..

Let’s take a look at our Saudi problem, shall we?

For decades the US and the kingdom of Saudi Arabia have been allies the problem with that relationship is that the two entities usually have opposing views of what is best for the Middle East.

More recently the kingdom has been with the Western powers in its struggle with ISIS……that in itself is a conflict….since Saudi is the home of the ultra-fundamentalist movement Wahhabism….the same beliefs held by AQ and ISIS….the two entities that have the most problem with America and its policies.  The kingdom has committed the same crimes and violence against its own citizens that ISIS is committing on other regions…..the beheadings, the public executions, the canings, 2nd class citizens made of women and the list goes on…..basically their policies are in direct contradiction to those of the US.

Recently the Saudis decided to attack Yemen because of some opposing religious group is showing gains in the country……..they have given limited assistance to the Coalition battle with ISIS in Iraq and Syria……why are they willing to go to war with a neighbor but not with a group that could threaten their very existence?

Saudi Arabia is a problem that needs attention…….

The US has looked the other way for way too long simply because the Saudis controlled so much oil….is all that about to change?

Hillary Clinton Goes to Militaristic, Hawkish Think Tank, Gives Militaristic, Hawkish Speech

I get a lot of grief from people that know I am not a Clinton supporter for the nomination…..most think it has to do with gender….they are seriously mistaken……I will not vote for her because I feel that she will be just an extension of Bubba’s policies and I think he did more harm than good as president.

For instance, it was his admin that repealed Glass-Staegall which led to the meltdown of 2008 and it was her hubby that went crazy with throwing people in prison….leading to the overcrowding we have today…..there is more but this post is about her not Bubba…..

I did not agree with Bill Clinton on much as far as foreign policy goes either.  here again I feel that she will be the hawk that hubby was….even with her State Department experience she will be ultra militaristic…..in my opinion.

She recently went to the Brookings Institute for a speech and she removed all doubt in my mind……

If Hillary Clinton is already this hawkish while trying to fend off Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary, imagine what she’ll be doing and saying in the general election or, worse, while in the Oval Office as “Commander-in-Chief.”

You decide what is what with Hillary……but for my money she is just another neocon in Democratic clothing……
