Closing Thought–02Oct20

If you do not have an opinion on the round of protests then you are either stupid or live under a rock in a magic garden somewhere….

One of the big debates is that the police do not need military gear to “protect and serve”…if that is truly their intention (some of us doubt the slogan)….

I for one do not believe they need this equipment makes them feel they are above the law and invincible.

The Dems in Congress have offered up a bill to cut back on the military hardware police departments can get from the Pentagon….

Dozens of congressional Democrats are urging committee chairs to limit the types of military-grade equipment sent to local police departments amid ongoing protests over racial injustice.

More than 40 Democrats signed a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Armed Services committees calling on them to include the restrictions in the final version of the annual defense policy bill.

“As House and Senate conferees negotiate the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), we encourage you to ensure that the conference report includes provisions requiring reform of the Sec. 1033 Program by imposing additional conditions and limitations on the transfer of Department of Defense property for law enforcement activities,” the lawmakers wrote.

The letter, a draft of which was obtained by The Hill ahead of its release, was sent to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman James Inhofe (R-Okla.), House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (D-Wash.), top Senate Armed Services Democrat Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.) and top House Armed Services Republican Rep. Mac Thornberry (Texas).

The letter was organized by House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Anthony Brown (D-Md.), Congressional Black Caucus Chair Karen Bass (D-Calif.) and co-signed by 41 other House Democrats. Several outside groups, including the progressive group Demand Progress, also backed the letter.

A damn good idea to de-militarize the police departments… idea that has been a long time coming……

Did not the Dems try something like this in 2015?

Why yes they did!

It was a waste of time and another plank in their attempt to look like they care for the upcoming election in 2016.

But do not take my word for it…I have the post here…..

A familiar tactic.

Delusional Amount Of Cash

I see that the Congress has left town , go figure, that is the one thing they all agree on, without any action on the new economic stim package to help the country deal with the costs of the pandemic.

People will soon lose or have their benefits cut or lost….and yet the only ones showing a profit out of the pandemic is corporations that are 100s of million of dollars that have seen profits jump by double digits……and what is the answer for the Fed?

Give the rich bastards more cash…..

Federal Reserve officials have launched what amounts to a full court press aimed at ensuring that Congress provides a further fiscal stimulus to corporations, as the COVID pandemic continues out of control and the limited revival of the US economy stalls.

While Fed representatives always couch their remarks in terms of giving assistance to the economy and even to workers, the fall in the stock market since the beginning of the month—the most significant downturn since the plunge in mid-March, when all financial markets froze—is the underlying concern.

The push began on Tuesday, when Fed Chair Jerome Powell gave testimony before the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services. Powell repeated earlier calls for fiscal action, on top of the more than $3 trillion made available under the CARES Act.

All this leads me to ask the one simple question….why do we give corporations so much power over our lives?

The media leads us to believe that the markets going up is good for the people….it is not the only people that benefit are the CEOs.

Then why do we give them the power?

The American people own most of the wealth—private and public—and most of the information in the country. The top one percent do not.

The American people have most of the power in the country. The top one percent do not.

(If you believe any of that then I have a bridge I will sell cheap)

These assertions may surprise you, because the top one percent and the giant corporations work overtime to control what you own. This means they do not have to seize what you own so long as their control provides them with both riches and power over you.

Let’s spell this out with specifics. Our Constitution starts with the words, “We the People…”; it doesn’t start with ‘we the corporations’ or ‘we the Congress’ or ‘we the super-rich.’ The sovereign authority under the Constitution is us; we the people are the bosses. But we give our power away to the Big Boys who run the big companies that control most of our elected politicians. The politicians in turn proceed to corrupt our elections with campaign money, gerrymandering, deceitful ads, voter obstructions, and a totally dominant two-party duopoly. This corporate state destroys competitive democracy which would give our votes meaning, choices, and effectiveness.

The corporate “Borg” is sucking the ready availability of the good life, decent, secure livelihoods assured by our collective self-reliance, and the freedom to shape our future out of our political economy.

We have been brainwashed….and it has been a rousing success for we equate our personal success by others standards.

“Cheap Like Water”

That ids the lie that Donald the Orange is trying to pass off just before the election.

This country has massive amounts of diabetics and their insulin med is outrageous….so outrageous that some only can take it on occasions which will lead to complications.

Trump recently patted himself on the back for lowering insulin prices so that it now as “cheap as water”…..

Who gets the lower prices…I am a diabetic and my insulin proces have not been lowered… just who the Hell gets those lower prices?

A coalition of progressive advocacy groups fighting to lower drug prices in the U.S. took President Donald Trump to task Wednesday for falsely claiming during the first 2020 general election debate that his administration made insulin “cheap like water,” an assertion belied by the large sums Americans continue to pay for the lifesaving diabetes medicine.

“Like just about everything else he has said over the last five years, Donald Trump’s claims on lowering drug prices in last night’s debate, particularly his outrageous claim about insulin, were nothing but spin and lies,” Margarida Jorge, campaign director for Lower Drug Prices Now, said in a statement.

“Calling insulin ‘cheap as water’ reveals just how out of touch this president is with the millions of Americans who must continue to ration critical medicines every single day because of Trump’s failure to follow through on his promises to hold Big Pharma accountable and lower drug prices,” Jorge continued. “Drug prices for Americans are the highest in the world, and three and a half years into Trump’s presidency—in the middle of a pandemic—the prices have continued to go up faster than any other medical good or service.”

I know that his supporters are mostly old farts and I bet that a good percentage of them have diabetes and yet they still support a toad that will lie to them about the health care costs.

I just need to ask…..does any of them read?  Does any of them ever go to the doctor?  Apparently common sense is not their strong suit.

May I suggest that these people cease their hate and start paying attention to the lives……they are being screwed.

“It Is What It Is”

For months Trump has been downplaying the effects and results of the pandemic…..hold numerous rallies indoors with no masks….and now we have the result of the lack of precautions.

President Trump said Friday that he and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus, just a month before the presidential election and after having spent much of the last year largely downplaying the threat of the virus, the AP reports. Trump’s positive test came just hours after he confirmed that senior aide Hope Hicks, who had traveled with him several times this week, had come down with the virus. Trump was last seen by reporters returning to the White House on Thursday evening and looked to be in good health. Trump is 74 years old, putting him at higher risk of serious complications from a virus that has now killed more than 205,000 people nationwide. “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19,” he tweeted.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately,” he went on. “We will get through this TOGETHER!” In a memorandum, the president’s physician said that Trump and the first lady, who is 50, “are both well at this time” and “plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.” He added that “rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering.” The diagnosis, just weeks before the Nov. 3 election, marks a major blow for a president who has been trying desperately to convince the American public that the worst of the pandemic is behind them, despite a growing nationwide death toll of more than 205,000 and 7 million confirmed infections.

If there is more info needed then please go to this link….

I apologize but after 4 years on constant lying I am a bit leery of any announcement from the White House…..could this be a ploy for sympathy votes after all we will be having an election in about a month?  Or is it a fake to keep him away from people after a horrible debate performance?

Sorry for the cynicism and skepticism…..but he is NOT known for his honesty.

Asian NATO

Looks like the US is getting more worried about China becoming aggressive….but why?

China is accomplishing a lot by diplomacy and agreements than by military intervention….at least for now.

Looks like the Trump boyz are thinking about another use for the US military beyond their missions in the Middle East…..

This is a wet dream for Neocons after their wars are trying to wind down by Trump just before an election.

There’s a general consensus in Washington that Beijing is the number one threat to US global hegemony. This has led some administration officials to consider forming a NATO type alliance in Asia to counter a rising China.

US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun recently suggested that the informal partnership between the US, Australia, Japan, and India could be the beginning of a NATO-style alliance in the Indo-Pacific.

The four countries, known as the Quad, already regularly hold military drills together in the Pacific. On August 31st, Biegun spoke at the US-India strategic dialogue and discussed the possibility of forming such an alliance with the Quad.

“It is a reality that the Indo-Pacific region is actually lacking in strong multilateral structures. They don’t have anything of the fortitude of NATO or the European Union,” Biegun said. “There is certainly an invitation there at some point to formalize a structure like this.”

On Friday, senior officials from the Quad held a virtual meeting, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Japan’s newly appointed Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs released a statement on the Quad meeting. “The officials reaffirmed their commitment towards a free, open, prosperous and inclusive Indo-Pacific region based on shared values and principles and respect for international law,” the statement said.

First, I thought Japan could use its military only in a defensive mode since 1945….could this violate some international ruling?

Second, this idea was floated by a Dem representative, Moulton back in 2019…..but it was called a Pacific NATO…….so it is not an original idea for the Trump lackeys…..

You guessed it…..I wrote about it at the time……

An Asia NATO would fly in the face of another agreement of Asian countries…..ASEAN……whose desires is for diplomatic and a renunciation of violence…

In their relations with one another, the ASEAN Member States have adopted the following fundamental principles, as contained in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) of 1976:

  1. Mutual respect for the independence, sovereignty, equality, territorial integrity, and national identity of all nations;
  2. The right of every State to lead its national existence free from external interference, subversion or coercion;
  3. Non-interference in the internal affairs of one another;
  4. Settlement of differences or disputes by peaceful manner;
  5. Renunciation of the threat or use of force; and
  6. Effective cooperation among themselves.

Not something NATO is noted for….a peaceful settlement of disputes.

To me this smells like an idea the M-IC came up with incase they lose the wars profits from Middle East.
