Finally…I was wondering when that company that puts copper into everything from socks to back braces was going to jump on the bandwagon and introduce a mask with copper infused.
Just saw an ad for such a mask and only $29.99…a steal (sarcasm)…..
In case you are thinking about this mask please read this before throwing your money at this product.
If you’ve been on the hunt for a mask lately, you might have stumbled across one that contains copper. And if you’re not dialed into the latest on microbial surfaces, this might raise some questions. Why copper? And is it worth spending the extra money?
The answer is complicated. “I have great hopes for copper masks,” says Michael Schmidt, a professor of microbiology and immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina, who has studied the use of copper in medical products. “But there is a lot of research that still needs to be done about [their] effectiveness. If you’re just throwing copper layers onto a mask, we don’t [know] if they work.” Here are some things to consider the next time you see a pop-up ad for a copper mask.
Copper can destroy bacteria and viruses, as my colleague Mark Wilson recently reported. It contains positively charged ions that trap viruses that are negatively charged. Then the copper ions penetrate the viruses, stopping them from replicating. A recent study found that copper is effective at inactivating the novel coronavirus within four hours.

Buyer beware.
My FYI for the day….(well one is never enough, eh?)
Be Well…..Be Safe…..Be Informed….
I read, I Write, You Know
“lego ergo scribo”
Another company preying on fear. I’m tired of seeing all this to be honest. To be effective, a mask must seal around the side of the face and above the nose. You also need full eye protection. Everything else is just like putting your finger in a hole in a dam. Eventually, the water will burst through.
Best wishes, Pete.
Opportunity…..to make millions from fear….capitalism at its worst chuq
As for me, I want a copper infused pillow, some copper infused socks and underwear, a copper infused bath towel and some copper infused toilet tissue.
I believe they have the socks John…..but I get your point….it is getting ridiculous….chuq
and make sure to wash your copper cookware often and wash your clothes in a copper-ring laden washing machine…
and invest in leeches when the copper toxicity gets to be too much.
Ooh–business partners, anyone?
LOL
copper infused condoms are nice ….
I many years ago I recall reading about the use of copper as a microbial metal. In fact, there was some discussion, or even some implementation in some areas, where doorknobs in hospitals would be copper for just that microbial reason.
But.. to change the subject immensely, here, chuq.. it being Memorial Day and all…
I am on some headline email notification thing with CNN and they just put out a solicitation to viewers
to submit WW2 stories and they would help with locating more facts.

How this relates to anything… well.. it got me to wondering about that old post from 2012 I did on my ancient and forgotten Boomerrants blog where I describe my Uncle Fred having flown B-17’s during the war. I had failed to mention in that story that he had won the Silver Star in his bombing mission. In any event… I pointed the story your way back in 2017 and you commented a couple replies about a family member having fought in the Devil’s Brigade in Italy… so I am passing this CNN link you way in case you might have an interest.
For reference purposes, here’s the original link to my story with replies.

Thanx for the link….chuq
(Oh dear… I think my first posting of this reply went awry.. so I will try again.. and forgive any duplicate in advance.)

First one made it thru okay….chuq
For thirty dollars (still a bit pricey) I was able to get two triple layered cotton masks for my husband and I.
But if you order them on line you get two with a small handling charge on the second one…..chuq
I was recently sitting on my ass contemplating my limited future when my Republican roots coupled with my past business endeavors drifted to impure thoughts of how I might cash in somehow on this pandemic.. and at the same time save lives. Regarding masks, I naturally began to think about how to re-purpose old jock straps…………………………….
Too porous chuq
…to say the least. 🙂
Be well…be safe…..chuq
You too, chuq. We are still breathing and walking upright.
So far so good…..chuq
