Closing Thought–06Feb20

It fires only with a guaranteed kill.

Say what?

Now that is what we need more than anything….la gun that will guarantee a hit/kill……

The U.S. Army is currently evaluating a smart rifle that will only fire if its software determines that the shot is guaranteed to hit its target.

The system, a collaboration between arms developers SIG Sauer and Smart Shooter, is a submission to the Army’s call for fire control systems to accompany its futuristic Next-Generation Squad Weapon, according to Military.com — and if the Army decides to go ahead with the tech, it could be deployed in the field by 2023.

The Army is interested in a smart fire control tool is to make soldiers

more effective by cutting down on stray shots.

How soon after 2023 will it take for this weapon to make it into the public domain?

I am still on the fence…..do we need this?

A thought……what happens in a firefight?  Suppressing fire is a must….

It is almost as disturbing to me as a DNA bullet……

The US Army has revealed testing of a revolutionary self-guided bullet is at an advanced stage.

The latest trials of the Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance, known as Exacto, program have shown even first time users can hit a moving target.

The bullets have a real-time guidance system to track targets, and can change their course if needed.

An experienced shooter using the technology demonstration system repeatedly hit moving and evading targets in the latest trials.

Additionally, a novice shooter using the system for the first time hit a moving target.

The video shows Exacto rounds manoeuvring in flight to hit targets that are moving and accelerating.

Yet another disturbing weapon innovation…..

Impeachment–2021

The votes are counted and the outcome was anything but a surprise…if anything it was a bit pathetic.

What about tomorrow?

This is a bit of ‘What If” sort of thing……

My friend John of Lines by Liming…..https://linesbyliming.com/ (visit him sometime)….recently John made a comment here on IST about the possibility of an impeachment process if another person is elected……

And the possibility is there…..let’s say it is Biden that gets elected….according to Sen. Joni Ernst the retaliation will begin immediately……it will be as predicted…..a tit for tat……

“I think this door of impeachable whatever has been opened,” said Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst—and it wasn’t just a statement, but a warning. In Sunday comments to Bloomberg News, the Republican suggested that should Joe Biden end up winning the presidency, a GOP effort to impeach him in connection with the Ukraine could begin on his first day in the White House. Specifically, “for being assigned [by then-President Obama] to take on Ukrainian corruption yet turning a blind eye to Burisma because his son was on the board making over a million dollars a year,” she said.

In comments to the Des Moines Register, Biden said that Ernst’s comments—that one and ones she made earlier in the week about Biden and Trump’s impeachment—back his case that the crux of Trump’s interaction with the Ukraine was centered on the possibility of a Trump vs. Biden race. Ernst “just reinforces everything that was the reason why the president was being impeached: They very much don’t want to face me obviously,” said Biden. “I’ve never seen a sitting president and his allies this frightened about who may be the nominee.”

All this tit for tat started in earnest in the 1990s with a House controlled by the GOP and Newt….and it has been brewing ever since……

But maybe Joni should keep in mind that Impeachment begins in the House…..she is just another GOPer trying to sound like they know stuff when they can scratch their butt without asking Google for directions.

Why do the jog of governing when this type of game is so much easier and more profitable for the players?

Senate Impeachment Trial–Final Day

Mercifully It’s Over!

Finally this Greek comedy has mercifully come to an end…at least in the US Senate…..but we will see and hear more in the coming days until the writers get cramps and move on.

The final vote….and the vote was no surprise….

President Trump has been acquitted on both articles of impeachment and will not be removed from office, USA Today reports. The vote for the first article, abuse of power, was 52-48, CNN reports. All 47 Democratic senators voted to convict, the Wall Street Journal reports. Utah Sen. Mitt Romney also voted to convict, breaking with his fellow Republicans, a decision he had announced on the Senate floor before the vote Wednesday, the AP reports. Romney said Trump’s actions were “perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of oath of office that I can imagine.” He’s the only senator in US history who has ever voted to convict a president from his own party during an impeachment trial. Romney did not, however, vote with Democrats on the second article, obstruction of Congress; the vote on that charge was 53-47.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts declared, per the Guardian: “The Senate having tried Donald John Trump, President of the United States, upon two Articles of Impeachment exhibited against him by the House of Representatives, and two-thirds of the Senators present not having found him guilty of the charges contained therein: it is, therefore, ordered and adjudged that the said Donald John Trump be, and he is hereby, acquitted of the charges in said articles.” Before the trial officially adjourned, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell presented Roberts with a golden gavel to thank him for presiding over the trial. “We typically award this to new senators after about 100 hours in the chair, but we can all believe that the chief justice has put in his due and then some,” he said. The Senate is now in recess until next week

The only thing this accomplishes is the rapid deterioration of our political system into chaos of corruption and greed…..well done GOP…..they have NEVER cared about the nation or the Constitution except when it is a slogan/prop for voters…..

The GOP can NO longer claim the mantle of fiscal responsibility or to champion the Constitution.

Not to worry the president will have to go before the cameras and doing his Reality TV thing on this acquittal…..

President Trump celebrated acquittal in his impeachment trial Wednesday by suggesting that he could remain president for more than 90,000 years—long beyond the limits set by both the human lifespan and the US Constitution. Trump tweeted a video based on a Time magazine cover from last year that shows campaign signs up to “Trump 2048,” the Hill reports. The video, which the president has shared before, shows the sign number ticking upward until it reaches “Trump 90,000,” followed by “Trump 4EVA.” Trump allies including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, meanwhile, tweeted about Trump being “acquitted for life,” the Week reports.

In another tweet, Trump slammed “failed presidential candidate” Sen. Mitt Romney, the only Republican senator to vote for conviction—and the only senator to vote against his party in any of the three presidential impeachment trials in US history. Had Romney “devoted the same energy and anger to defeating a faltering Barack Obama as he sanctimoniously does to me, he could have won the election,” said Trump, who also tweeted a video that claimed Romney was a “secret Democrat asset.” The president said he would make a statement at noon Thursday from the White House to “discuss our Country’s VICTORY on the Impeachment Hoax!”

It is over!

Trump will forever be an impeached president like Clinton…..on the other hand he was acquitted of the “crimes” like Clinton.

Now the story should be…..will there be  price for the Senators vote?

The Congress will take a week off to recover from having to work days on end…..their wallets are slimmer since the donors have been otherwise distracted.

Now the work of the country needs to be handled….like that will happen.

Saying Goodbye To Kirk

With all the theatrics in politics these days news like this seem to be pushed under the carpet…..

We have lost an American cinematic royal…..

A man who might have been the biggest male movie star since World War II died Wednesday. His name was Kirk Douglas. “It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” his son Michael Douglas wrote on Instagram, per the Hollywood Reporter. The actor known for his dimples and fierce gaze acted in a wide range of films, from The Bad and the Beautiful to Champion to Lust for Life and Paths of Glory. The three-time Oscar nominee (and recipient of an honorary Oscar in 1996) is also cherished in Hollywood for breaking the 1950s blacklist by crediting Dalton Trumbo for his screenplay on Spartacus, in which Douglas starred. He was also a political activist, family man, and charity benefactor, notes Variety.

His intense ambition was rooted in family. Born to Russian Jewish immigrants in Amsterdam, NY, Douglas was the poor son of a ragman. He rose up by putting himself through university, served in the Navy, and returned to civilian life to act on Broadway and, soon after, in Hollywood. A rebel with strong opinions—and a reputation for being difficult—he started his own film company and made his own films. He was married twice and had four sons, who all went into the movie business. A 1996 stroke nearly led him to suicide, but he fought on. And on the big screen, he’s always a giant: “To me, acting is creating an illusion, showing tremendous discipline, not losing yourself in the character that you’re portraying,” he once wrote, per the New York Times. “The actor never gets lost in the character he’s playing; the audience does.”

I have watched Kirk Douglas movies most of my life……my favorites were The Vikings, Seven Days In May…..but most of them were great……

What were your favorites?

May he rest in peace.
