Somethings Never Change

Closing Thought–11Jul19

Back in my younger days I was at odds with the leadership of my party (It was not the Democratic Party, FYI)….it seems they did not appreciate my outspoken criticisms and told me to hold my tongue and keep any disagreement private…..I gave them the finger and resigned from the party for when dealing with the people there should never be any secrets after all we are their representatives (at least that is what I thought).

I read something that made me wax nostalgic…..

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday urged unity among fellow Democrats in the face of battles over the direction of the party and warned members to ditch Twitter and keep their disagreements private.

“You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just OK,” Pelosi said during a closed meeting of House Democrats, according to a source who was in the room.

It was not clear if Pelosi, the top elected U.S. Democrat, was aiming her remarks at a specific lawmaker’s tweet or issuing a general warning about using social media, the favourite means of communication for Republican President Donald Trump.

Looks like the corporations are winning again…..Pelosi is just protecting the collaborators not looking for a future for the country just the corporate profits….

More on this …..

Plus Pelosi knows how influential Twitter and social media can be and that is a stake in the heart of corporate America.

The more they champion change the more things remain the same.  Corporations want the status quo….for they are making obscene profits and any progress will lessen that and they will not stand for it…..ergo Pelosi’s dictum.

Let’s not pretend this is about unity….it is about control….and the corporations are in control.

Making America (History) Great Again–Part 32

I am one of the few analysts that will admit that Jimmy Carter was a good president……his work in diplomacy would have possibly given the Middle East a peace…..a lasting peace would not be able to be predicted…Carter environmental policies would also have staved off climate change…maybe not completely but the crisis would not be as dire as it is now.

If you like American history then this series by Maj. Danny Sjursen is one that is a must read and I am providing them as a reference for those history lovers that want a realistic look at American history without the prism of reactionary thought.

Before we get to the most recent Part I would like to give the whole series so that my readers can have them to re-read if they like……it is an excellent series.

Part 1; Part 2; Part 3; Part 4; Part 5; Part 6; Part 7; Part 8; Part 9; Part 10;Part 11; Part 12; Part 13; Part 14; Part 15; Part 16; Part 17; Part 18; Part 19; Part 20; Part 21; Part 22; Part 23; Part 24; Part 25; Part 26; Part 27; Part 28; Part 29; Part 30; Part 31.

Maj. Danny takes a closer look at the presidency of Jimmy Carter…..

There would never have been a Democratic president in 1977, certainly not a President Jimmy Carter, were it not for Watergate, Richard Nixon’s disgrace and the public backlash against Tricky Dick’s Republican Party. Indeed, after the fall of Lyndon B. Johnson, a new era of Republican ascendancy had begun, with the GOP holding the presidency for 20 of the 24 years following Nixon’s 1968 election. Often remembered as one of America’s most feckless and uninspiring presidents, Carter in reality was neither as successful as his supporters had hoped nor as ineffective as his opponents later claimed. He was, ultimately, a transitional figure and a product of the 1970s, which were increasingly politically conservative although heavily colored by cultural liberalism, especially among the young. Though later portrayed by the right as a hopelessly left-wing liberal, Carter was actually quiet pragmatic and became the first of the three Democratic presidents who served between 1977 and 2017 to tack toward the right. In that sense, one could argue that Carter reflected and affected the prevailing conservative winds and started the country down the road toward the “Reagan Revolution” and a long-term rightward trend in American politics.

As I have said….this is an excellent series on the events that helped make America great….as a historian and analyst I feel this is the history we should be teaching and not some sanitized crap that we teach these days.

Those Spineless Collaborators

The word makes me think of those people during World War 2 that worked with the Nazis against the interests of their countrymen……I know there are other definitions but that is the one that I will stick with for this post.

For this post it is those Dems that are in the pocket of corporate dollars…..it is more important to win re-election than to work for the betterment of the nation.

As the 2020 election comes into focus there are a couple of collaborators withing the Dems ranks….some are candidates and others are leader in Congress…..

First there is the candidate, Joe Biden……

It’s really quite simple: the rogue oligarchs and corporations who now run this country constitute the enemy. Since becoming a Senator in 1973, your favorite Irish uncle, Joe Biden, has actively collaborated in the extreme capitalism, racism, nationalism, and police state-ism that enable the oligarchs’ agenda; and while most ably empowered by their instrument, the Republican Party, between times, it is more than adequately carried out by the Democrats. What we see now, with a mostly pliant Trump, with a conservative majority Supreme Court, and with a divided Congress where stasis rules, is the Oligarchy’s ideal. But as the political calendar moves on – a proven collaborator must be installed, over the next twelve months, as the Democratic nominee in the 2020 tryst with their current champion – just in case.

https://www.counterpunch.org/2019/07/05/joe-biden-is-a-collaborator/

Next we go to the House and the Dem leader Schiff…..he likes to label himself a progressive and there is nothing more false than that…….

Neoliberal, fake progressive Rep. Adam Schiff (D-C) showed his true colors yet again last week. He said in responseto President Donald Trump’s saber-rattling and threats to attack Iran that,

“Iran is a thoroughly malign actor, a cause of deep instability in the region, a profound contributor to the violence and misery in Yemen, and one of the most dangerous regimes in the world. Through the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) and its proxies, it is also a state sponsor of terror. The threat it poses is real.”

That certainly wasn’t the position of the Obama Administration. Schiff instead has decided to jump into the Trump foreign policy with both feet. He’s made similar threatening statements about Venezuela and China, too.

JOHN KIRIAKOU: Adam Schiff—The Left Wing of the Hawk

Schiff is also in the pocket of the corporations…..his policies are to help them not to move this country forward.

Can we count on Dem Senator Coons to vote for a progressive agenda?  My thought is NO!

A trade group representing chemical companies will spend more than $150,000 on advertising during July in support of four Republican senators and one Democrat, all of whom face reelection in 2020. The American Chemistry Council, which represents nearly 200 companies including DuPont, Chevron Phillips and ExxonMobil, is running TV and radio ads in Alaska, Delaware, Louisiana, Montana and South Dakota between July 8 and 21, according to Federal Communications Commission records accessed via OpenSecrets’ political ad database. Sens. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) all face reelection next year.

Trade group airs ads to boost five senators facing reelection

I say keep an eye on the collaborators…….then ask who do they truly represent….my guess is the cash and not the people.

****More on this situation in today’s Closing Thought****

Where The Hell Is “Sahel”?

I am a student of history and of conflict…….I try to let my readers know what is happening around the world because eventually the US may be fighting yet another war.

I have a friend that studies the region in Africa known as the “Sahel”…..but most of my readers will be asking WTF?

Let me help out….

Image result for sahel

I have written about this region on occasion but not in-depth…..most of mine has been about the deaths of American SOF troops or the terror that is Boko Haram….but there is so much more to this region that some small posts of mine.

I introduced my reader to the “Sahel” when I reported on the deaths of American soldiers in Mali and Niger.

There is so much going on in this region with the US and France using soldiers to try and control the developing situations.

thousands of miles away, in the deserts and scrublands of West Africa’s Sahel – a semi-arid belt of land on the southern edge of the Sahara – another jihadist insurgency has been spreading like wildfire, with far less international attention.

The civilian toll in numbers

  • Civilian fatalities rose 7,000 percent in Burkina Faso, 500 percent in Niger, and 300 percent in Mali compared to the previous year
  • 440,000 people displaced by conflict, a five-fold increase over the previous year
  • 1.8 million people face food insecurity
  • 5.1 million people require humanitarian assistance
  • 157 men, women, and children killed in March in one attack in Mali

In recent months, a surge in violence in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger – three Sahelian countries with shared borders and common problems – has left more than 440,000 people displaced and 5,000 dead, as militants – some with links to al-Qaeda and IS – extend their grip across the region.

The UN has isolated several problems other than the rise in terrorist activity……food, environmental, fragile economies as well as political instability……

https://www.un.org/africarenewal/magazine/december-2013/sahel-one-region-many-crises

Let’s be honest the Sahel is quickly becoming a hot bed for terrorist activity……

Violent extremist organizations in the Central Sahel (the Fezzan in Libya’s south, Niger and the Lake Chad Basin) are exploiting environmental change, economic grievances, and longstanding social cleavages to recruit and expand. United States Africa Command is explicitly tasked with countering significant terrorist threats but fluctuating resources and underuse of diplomatic and economic tools risks allowing extremists to consolidate their gains and establish safe havens.

I admit that this region does not get the copy it deserves here on IST……a situation I shall try to rectify.

This is a region that the US has entered into with our military and that may not be the best way to handle events in these countries.
