These days with all the protests and rhetoric and total emotional bullsh*t that is flying around the US…..there are two words that are passed around liberally….socialism and fascism . Let’s start with the later…….would you know the signs that fascism is making its presence known?
If not then let Naomi Wolf help your understanding…….all 10 of the indicators…….
1. Invoke a Terrifying Internal and External Enemy Create a faceless threat that can be anywhere, anytime and anyone 2. Create a Gulag Install a prison system that exists outside of the rule of

The more one looks at the election rhetoric the more a special odor is blowing in the wind…..
Help me out here a little bit so I can better understand what it is that you have proposed here …. We all know that the sitting president has managed to accomplish No. 10 on the list single handedly …. which of the other 9 are not in motion and daily present with us?
I am proposing nothing …all I am saying is in our voting we could elect someone that , at least in rhetoric, have these leanings….
Are you saying you prefer a candidate that leans toward fascism? I am not understanding you this morning for which I apologize.
John, I am just pointing out that some of the twats running have leanings, at least their rhetoric, toward fascism…..maybe more coffee will help……LOL
America has not had a fascist swing for a long while now … maybe it is about time … who knows? …. I kind of like a little nationalism … I just don’t want it to get out of hand. — I have a question for the right wingers this morning …. “When does ‘Patriotism’ cross the line and become “Nationalism?”
Never……nationalism would imply a love of country…there is little of that….mostly lip service but nothing would have me believe that we are a nation…only regions that hate one thing or another.
We are unified by our common love of money and free stuff.
The only free stuff I ever got was my education on the GI Bill….and money…I have always been happier with it….
I used to get free stuff as part of package deals made when I was in business… and I got the GI Bill thingy too …so I think I know where you are on this point.
“Patriotism is proud of a country’s virtues and eager to correct its deficiencies; it also acknowledges the legitimate patriotism of other countries, with their own specific virtues.
The pride of nationalism, however, trumpets its country’s virtues and denies its deficiencies, while it is contemptuous toward the virtues of other countries. It wants to be, and proclaims itself to be, “the greatest,” but greatness is not required of a country; only goodness is.”

Thank you Narie-Jacqueline, that is very well said and most appropriate.
The concept of government, or country, or state, or religion, or city, or, fucking football team, as a reason for pride, or love, is, in my mind, ludicrous, not to mention dangerous in re: species survival.
To identify oneself with a group such as ANY of these invites divisiveness and elitism. Each member of a group feels ‘special’, as well as ‘protected’ by their membership; this allows them to objectify anyone in another group, whether it is a country, a religion, a team fan club, or just a gang on the street. This objectification of others is the root cause of ALL the conflict between humans, for they will kill to enforce their beliefs, no matter how fascist, or communist, or catholic, or muslim, or fucking Patriotic it may be. It’s ALL a mistaken delusion, a belief that people are NOT connected…. yet our connection is the only thing we have to survive in this universe…
As long as people identify with a country, or a religion, or any other kind of division of people, we will have this conflict, for it is all a delusion, fostered by those who wish to manipulate every one else.
I reiterate, Homo Suicidus….
gigoid, the dubious
Good points…well said….chuq
Here a Dutch voice in this debate.
I have said this before in other forums and will keep on doing this.
Be carefull when you use the word fascism or nazism for that matter to adress occurances in the US.
I think that we agree that the US has problems!
However to use a word that represents in Europe’s occupied nations a system of dictatorship, destruction, procecution, in short death, hunger and destruction in USA’s circumstances is not right at all.
All I did was show indicators…things we need to avoid….chuq
Yes, I know you did! It is my opion that more attention should be paid to the random use of nazi-related words and display horrendous WWII pictures for every day occurences.
Nazism in all its ugly features did dehumanize their victims to a point that murdering them wasn’t seen for what it was. Murdering your fellow men in the often cruelest way possible.
If you accept the words and picture in language and media, they erode to just a empty
The victims are dehumanized
I agree….but some in this country do not realize that the rhetoric is getting scary….just wanted to point it out.
Yes, one must be careful not to throw such terms about without proper consideration (ie the following “witty” sarcasm)
National Socialism was merely ONE manufacturer of Fascism. Granted, it was the best known brand name and they did put Fascism on the map (as they took entire nations off the map). But while every product “Made in Germany” is better, saying Nazis have a monopoly on Fascism is like saying Kellogg’s has a monopoly on corn flakes. Anybody can make them. They just won’t have the same brand name clout & name recognition.
Fascism is MORE than capable of taking over in America. It’s (arguably) now THE most likely country to adopt it. (If it hasn’t already.) Certainly, all the parts are in place. At most, the switch just needs to be turned on. And there is certainly a big demand for the product out there. (See: Trump rallies)
Add: Just an empty shell.
Add: Just an empty shell.
The victems are dehumanized again!
We are doing that now….here in this country….and that is why I feel I must say something.
People in the US have short memories and they must be nudged from time to time…..most have NO idea what it means to suffer from the plight of fascism….I try to make them think about their actions….chuq
I kmow that you are sincere in your intentions!
Truly…. Americans are dumb enough to allow the rise….
