Where Did He Touch You?

In my last post of the day I want to pass on some scientific research…..robot research….early android…..homo roboticus……..

Did you see the movie “Ex-Machina’?

If not then I will not spoil it for you…… let’s just say…… kinda kinky as well as  sexy.

Meanwhile back to the research…..robots and sex……

“Please touch my buttocks.” Most people feel uncomfortable obeying this command, and scientists have just discovered that this discomfort extends to, well, boxes of circuitry. Researchers at Stanford University are presenting their findings from a study on touching robots at the Annual Conference of the International Communication Association in Fukuoka, Japan, in June, reports IEEE Spectrum. It turns out that even though a robot’s “human-ness” is merely programmed into it, “We’re very, very good at fooling ourselves … to the point where it starts to get a little weird.”

To test this, the researchers had undergrads sit at a table with an NAO bot and respond to various commands, including “touch my hand” and “touch my buttocks.” Each participant’s non-dominant hand was hooked to a sensor that measured various physiological responses to capture the person’s attention and alertness. The less accessible a body part (think inner thigh or genitals), the more uncomfortable and reluctant the participant. Popular Science reports that the researchers didn’t go so far as to investigate why (that will likely be for future study), but they do note that “people are not inherently built to differentiate between technology and humans.” For now they suggest that the takeaway may be for robot designers to place command buttons in easy-to-reach places.

I guess this proves that I am officially an old fart.  This type of news just meakes me want to say……Eeeeewwwwwwwwwww!

I know some of my readers will have something to say about this bit of research……you know you want to weigh in……

Let it fly!

  1. Well… I consider myself an old fart, too, but, my immediate reaction was to have a big grin cross my face, which stayed in place right up to the Eeeeewww in the comments, and sits upon it now…. ROFL.

People are strange, and there is no denying it. First, that they cannot overcome, or even recognize. their own preconceived notions of propriety without feeling discomfort. Second, that it makes them uncomfortable, (sorry, must be MY perversion to think its ironically hilarious). And, third, that there is already scientific study going on which confirms it; which is the more perverted? That we HAVE uncomfortable fantasies we feel we can’t control? Or, that we must go the other direction completely, and try to analyze it from a scientific standpoint?

It seems pretty simple to me. People, especially male people, will have fantasies about just about anything. To feel uncomfortable with it is to give up the control of what we fantasize about…. Weird doesn’t necessarily mean bad; only when such impulses are given credence do they have any real power over us…

But, then, people are not encouraged to look inside themselves too far…. it’s pretty scary when one gives up. and starts taking responsibility for their own feelings and thoughts. Nobody left to blame, I guess…

  2. It’s a neck & neck race in the development race between the fuck-bots and the flying killer robots. Which really tells you all you need to know about the human species.

About 25+ years from now, people who have sex with other people will be considered the “freaks”.

      1. Hey, 25 years ago, who would have ever dreamed most of the population would be completely incapable of looking up from their phones? Now it’s considered “normal”.(Ewwww!) People without cell phones are considered the “freaks” now.

This is how fast technology can unleash the base urges within. (See: drones & sex robots)

      2. Well, better start saving your money & fast. They’re here! This company is already making hyper-realistic sex dolls and is planning to release this model in 2017. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/12/technology/robotica-sex-robot-realdoll.html

The whole thing reminds me of the cheesy, but enjoyable, 1985/6/7/8 straight-to-video classic Cherry 2000, starring Melanie Griffith. At the time, it had an “utterly preposterous” premise. I didn’t think it so preposterous. Men just love their machines. (See use of Mustangs in film) Even I thought it had a ridiculously unrealistic time-frame of events. In retrospect, I was wrong. They were bang on.

“In the year 2017, the United States has fragmented into postapocalyptic wastelands and limited civilized areas. One of the effects of the economic crisis is a decline in manufacturing, and heavy emphasis on recycling aging 20th-century mechanical equipment. Society has become increasingly bureaucratic and hypersexualized, with the declining human sexual encounters requiring contracts drawn up by lawyers prior to sexual activity. At the same time, robotic technology has made tremendous developments, and female androids are used as substitutes for wives.” -Wikipedia synopsis

It had an excellent premise that turned out to be pretty visionary. Unfortunately, it kind of got drowned out by the action, which wasn’t bad for a low budget movie that was never theatrically released. It sat finished on the studio’s shelf from Dec 85 to Nov 88. It was going to sit there forever because the studio had NO idea how to promote it. But with Griffith’s star rising, they decided to cash in with a straight-to-video release.

The robots are coming! The robots are cumming!

      3. In 1985, who would have thought that America would be in a permanent, crippling, economic decline driven by a collapse in manufacturing, yet at the same time, develop incredibly advanced technology? Specifically, companionship robots that replace human relationships because humans are impossible to connect with. (See: The scene where the contract lawyer negotiates the details of a date between 2 difficult clients.) Work-bots & battle-bots are easy to understand. Sex robots too. (Bladerunner had those covered) But robots that entirely replace human relationships…that was not so easy to predict inside that time frame (1985-2017).

But just like the movie, in 2017 exactly…that’s where we are as a society. People are so lonely & isolated now, they turn to consumer technologies to fill the giant empty void in their lives. So much so, that a company is putting out a sex-doll programmed to have a human personality. It will cost about as much as a cheaper car….and it will sell out, probably in advance!

Zoinks! Where’s my survival bunker? Hmmm…I buy my bunker, buy some sex-robots, some worker-bots and some battle-bots for security….that would really work! I’d get all the benefits of a staff without having to pay them or even feed them beyond a few solar panels to charge them. 🙂
