I have written many posts on the Palestinian cause and the conflict that is ensuing between them and the Israelis….I have given an alternative to the “wall of separation” that Israel has constructed…..I have written about the institutionalization of conflict and how destructive it can be….
My concern for this situation stems from my friend Rafiq who worked with me as an interpreter when I was working in the Middle East….he was Palestinian and I got to see the situation in his homeland first hand….it is nothing like the western media would have us believe….it is far worse especially if you are Palestinian…..
I read this op-ed by a Palestinian analyst and thought that it was a good write and made a lot of sense……I offer it here for others to read his thoughts……
Regrettably too many Americans cannot believe that there are actual Arab intellectuals….most want to believe that Arabs are backwards and prone to violence…..we can thank the media for giving us that limited vision……but there are many intellectuals in the Arab world and they have some great insights…..like Palestinian author and political analyst Nassar Ibrahim appeals to Arab intellectuals: act now to protect our heritage!

I spend a lot of time reading news about the Middle East as well as on-line with friends in the region so I get news that most Americans do not get…..that is a good thing for I can report stuff that is not readily available to most Americans…..but it has a down side…..some refuse to read about what is being said in the Middle east for they know best because they listen to FOX News or read InfoWars which is so skewed that it is all so laughable…..there are some good opinions by people of the region and their thoughts should be taken into consideration……that is if they want to know or not…..

There are people in the region that are concerned about the rise in extremism…..and many want change….
The recent protests in Kabul were encouraging, but we must see an awful lot more of this open rejection of violence.
I agree….the problem is there is lots of rejection but the western media never reports on it…..
My feeling is this…
If the House of Saud has no control over it’s clerics and would prefer to deflect…..then as my father would have say…’it is like kicking shit up a hill!’
The people are so conditioned and so poor… and in the meantime we shout out our Western propaganda through every media out let we can Coco Cola, MacDonalds and HollyWood /Bling .. the haves and the haves not….
They did not listen to Yanis Varoufakis in Greece….
Why would they listen to Arab intellectuals?

However, I wish them well and agree ….more education needed. ….emotional intelligence for a start….religion has not shown that….it is based on emotions and emotions react fast.

I’m afraid ‘hope’ is about all there is for that to happen. If the world was in the habit of listening to its intellectuals. we wouldn’t be anywhere close to the mess we are in….

I would also add this: the Palestinians who are able to get any of their thoughts to the outside world are, perhaps. the most telling, and most compelling arguments that can be presented. I know you know the iink to Nadia Harash’s site. She is a Palestinian woman writing with great intelligence and insight, all while trying to survive living there, raising her children as best she may…. Powerful stuff. and if her insights were reproduced in any of the MSM outlets, would conceivably be a catalyst for world revolution….
And, you know what? It’s time for one…..

I would also be interested in hearing the highest ranking Islamic intellectuals in The United States and the rest of the world speaking out against “Radical Terrorism” too but I am not holding my breath.

Has Omar Ahmad spoken out about it? He is the founder of CAIR — what has he said about it?

No government that subscribes to the salafist thought will be high on their list…..see that is what I mean…they have issued a statement but if is somehow a deflection….

That is true but what authority do they have to enforce? I mean the GOP cannot force people to believe their stuff….they are not an armed militia….the better question is …will they be listened to? From all the reports I saw of the latest attacks then I say that most are listening….but just like one bad Christian does condemn the whole religion….nor should it.
