ISIS Coalition SITREP #48

Good day……

Item 1–Some disturbing news coming out of the conflict……reports are yet unconfirmed……

UN and Human Rights Watch slammed the U.S. government for its increasing use of white phosphorus and depleted uranium bombs in densely populated areas since mid-September.

Medics say some ISIL terrorists have been wounded by the new lethal type of weapons that even physicians who had had similar experiences in war zones cannot recognize them.

Medical teams who still operate in war-scarred Syria say whenever a person injured by these unprecedented weapons, the poisonous shrapnel will soon kill the individual in a very short period of time.

DU rounds are SOP in the conflict in Iraq in 2003……even some Americans are suffering from the effects of these rounds…..

Item 2–The allure of jihad and ISIS is losing some of its luster…….

A selection of their messages, leaked to the newspaper Le Figaro, contrast bizarrely with the image of implacable and hard-hearted jihad peddled by terror websites. “I’m fed up to the back teeth. My iPod no longer works out here. I have got to come home,” said a message from a French fighter in Syria.

Another disillusioned volunteer said: “I’m sick of it. They make me do the washing-up.” A third appealed for clemency from the French authorities, who have a policy of arresting returning jihadis. “I’ve done hardly anything but hand out clothes and food,” he said. “I’ve also cleaned weapons and moved the bodies of killed fighters . Winter is beginning. It’s starting to get tough.”

Time for the intel people to spring into action….these disgruntled militants could be a wealth of info and propaganda…….but will they?

Item 3–The moderate Rebels in Syria are once again in the vetting process…..

As the Pentagon gets ready to “vet” the potential Syrian rebels they hope to train for the new pro-US rebel faction they intend to create to fight ISIS, it’s looking pretty easy. They already know most of these guys, because they already trained them.

“We’re not starting from scratch,” one official noted, adding re-vetting people they already know should take no more than a single day, and many of these worked through the CIA programs from previous years.

The unspoken downside to this is that these same rebels were trained to do the exact same thing they’re being trained for this time, and it didn’t work before.

What is that old saying about insanity?

Item  4–Finally some good news coming out of Iraq!

Members of the US anti-ISIS coalition are crowing about ISIS shutting down cellular telephone service in Mosul, saying it proves the war against ISIS is having a major impact.

ISIS shut off the phone service to thwart spotters who were providing targeting information to the coalition to launch airstrikes against ISIS forces. Service appears to still be active across much of the rest of ISIS territory.

It’s the little things that give the most joy.

Item 5–the fate of Syria’s Assad is ever changing………

Writing Nov. 14 in Foreign Policy, James Traub quotes David Harland, executive director of the Geneva-based Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD Centre), which operates inside Syria, and his collaborator, Nir Rosen, as saying that “rebel commanders have come to accept that Assad’s departure cannot be a precondition for talks.” Rosen also suggested that the “rebels’ foreign backers, including the Saudis, have begun to reach the same conclusion.” On the basis of his discussion with his interlocutors, Traub contends that President Bashar al-Assad will “not be going any time soon, if at all.”

Item 6–There seems to be a  solution in the making for the “no US ground troops” pledge of Obama….in a piece in from Jason Ditz……

Officials say that using contractors as the “boots on the ground” in Iraq would be a political boon for President Obama, who could sort of avoid going back on his promise not to get US troops into combat roles.

Nominally, the contractors aren’t supposed to engage in combat either, but analysts say that they are allowed to “provide security,” which in this case is a distinction without a difference.

Damn!  Greed is a powerful emotion…ain’t it?  Blackwater should be jerking off in the corner…..

That is it for the day…….

Thanx for your time and attention……..

Ashton Carter: Yes Man Cometh

By now if you are a bit interested in the direction of the country you know Hagel is departing…..and after much debate on the news shows we have a frontrunner for replacement……..

(Newser) – President Obama has apparently chosen a new candidate for Pentagon chief—a relative unknown on the national stage who worked as former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s “alter ego” for about two years. That candidate is Ashton Carter, whose public profile was boosted by his role in planning the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. He would be Obama’s fourth secretary of defense if nominated—as senior GOP Sen. Jim Inhofe said today he would be—and confirmed. That would thrust Carter out of his comfort zone as a behind-the-scenes confidante and into the center of more defense and foreign policy problems, arguably, than Panetta faced in his 20 months as defense secretary. Carter’s name was among the first to surface after Chuck Hagel abruptly resigned last month.

That is largely because of Carter’s academic and government credentials and his reputation as one of the brightest minds in the national security establishment. During the administration of President Bill Clinton he was assistant secretary of defense for international security policy. Before that he was director of the Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School. He is associated with a concept he helped champion in the 1990s called “preventative defense”—the notion that after the Cold War, the US could forestall major new security threats by forging and strengthening security partnerships with China, Russia, and others. Carter also says America needs to focus on the threat of cyberattacks.

This person is a hawk and that is just what Obama needs now…….someone who can appeal to Repubs and follow the lead of the prez….Hagel was not a ‘yes’ man…….this man is the quintessential YES man.

Look for an escalation of hostilities in the Middle East and possibly beyond.

To Be Young (Again)

Remember what you were doing when you were 17?  I was thinking about asking that special gal out for the first time….and that was making me extremely nervous…..I was working making about 75 cents an hour and trying to get through school…….but there was something about her that made me think of her all the time…..

How about you?

It is scary these days especially when I read this piece…..

A 17-year-old girl was charged with organizing a prostitution ring at two Florida high schools. Police say she pimped out a 15-year-old girl to a client for $40 and a bottle of liquor so a 21-year-old could have sex with the underage student.

Sarasota High School student Alexa Nicole De Armas was arrested Friday and charged with human trafficking of a person younger than 18, a felony. John Michael Mosher, 21, was also arrested, and charged with sexual battery on a minor, WWSB reported. Police told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune that one more person would be arrested Tuesday.

Just scary what life has become in the ba-zillion years since I was 17……my biggest problem was trying to think of a way to get her into the back seat…….never considered in going into business for myself….
