“To Convict” Retaliation

The impeachment trial of Trump has ended with an “acquittal”….and 7 GOPers voted to convict and now their bravery for stepping up for the country is being rewarded badly back home…..

Republican senators who voted to convict former President Trump in his impeachment trial are hearing about it from party officials back home. Sen. Bill Cassidy was promptly censured by Louisiana party leaders, the Hill reports. The state party condemned Cassidy’s vote in a tweet, adding, “Fortunately, clearer heads prevailed and President Trump has been acquitted.” North Carolina Republicans ripped Sen. Richard Burr’s vote, per the New York Times, with some backing censure. “Wrong vote, Sen. Burr,” tweeted Mark Walker. “I am running to replace Richard Burr because North Carolina needs a true conservative champion as their next senator.” Ten GOP House members had voted to send the article of impeachment to the Senate, and Rep. Liz Cheney faced down calls to resign.

The chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican Party expressed disappointment with Sen. Pat Toomey’s vote to convict. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is the only one of the seven who expects to run for reelection in 2022, but she might be less worried about the party’s influence after winning a write-in campaign last time. She said after voting that Trump “failed to uphold” his oath of office. The other GOP votes to convict were cast by Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, Mitt Romney of Utah, and Ben Sasse of Nebraska, per CNBC. Collins said Trump’s actions involving the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol were an abuse of power. Romney said Trump incited the insurrection and violated his oath. Sasse cited his own oath to the Constitution in explaining his vote, while Toomey said Trump betrayed the Constitution. Cassidy defended his vote by saying: “I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty.”

I was afraid that the GOP would retaliate against anyone who did not follow party BS….I have a new respect for those that did what needed to be done.

Then on the other hand most of them that voted to convict will not run for re-election so they have very little to lose.

  1. They have no recording of him instructing people to organize or to riot in the Capitol. No testimony either. So of what is he guilty ? All the ugly and criminal riot film does not prove anything of Trump either . Should not find guilty without actual evidence not because they hate him and because they were able again to weaponize impeachment . Why do they call it a coup and insurrection ? There was no army with tanks and weapons to sustain an overthrow againt US military – another absurdity. Hope they get Coumo in NY. He’s is guilty of criminal neglect and a long list of poor judgment. Trump did not kill 15,000 people like Andrew. But as usual the democraps and their fake news allies protect him by calling the accusations (with evidence) more right wing conspiracy theories. Every sin and crime of the democraps get chuck and Nancy screaming conspiracy theories.

    1. Blindness can be a blessing to some who do not wish to see. Just wait, Carl … if he ever gets back into the presidency, that will be the time to count your blessings … to see how he bends over backwards to do things that will benefit you as an individual …than we can talk about this again.

    2. Militia members had guns, bombs etc…..But his supporters did kill a Dc cop. The only absurdity is that the American people voted for a hateful slug. chuq

  2. Those rogue senators need to be defeated and ejected from our democratic government because their ideas are deadly poison to democracy. Secondly, the ones who are facing difficulties from their constituencies ought to be damned glad they are not living in a third world country where, if they dared to oppose their dictator, the outcome would be far worse for them than mere rejection at the polls. (Think “Heads actually rolling.”)

      1. It will only get worse. It’s all a result of the generation involved being raised with a silver elitist privileged spoon in their mouths.

  3. Okay, from over the Atlantic, the view is that it was all a complete nonsense. He urged them to get Pence, clear and simple, and they were even chanting “Hang Pence”. If the powers that be (and you, Carl) cannot see the connection, then they need new glasses, and hearing aids too.
And Trump is now empowered by the not guilty verdict. He won’t go away anytime soon.
If anyone cares what foreigners think, (and why should you?) it’s a complete farce. But it’s a dangerous farce, because Trump is a very dangerous, egotistical individual.
    Best wishes, Pete.
