Does Anyone Remember The Hack Of 2016?

Closing Thought–23Mar20

I know that events and situations around this pandemic are moving at a break neck speed and issues of 4 years ago hold no interests these days…..but after all the exposure the Mueller thingy and the investigation digging and finding Russians were truly messing in our elections.

Does any of that ring a bell?

Just thought you might like to know……after all the pundits opinions, money spent, investigations and indictments issued…..the DOJ has decided to drop the cases……

Big news Monday night: Buried amid the panic over the corona virus. Robert Mueller’s prosecutors got the green light to flush down the toilet  one of their major cases alleging that Russia hacked the 2016 U.S. Presidential election – US District Court Judge Dabney Friedrich on Monday evening granted the DOJ’s motion to dismiss the case against Concord Management and Consulting. This is more than a black eye. It is an indictment and rebuke of a corrupt group of prosecutors who worked for Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller. They filed a case without foundation and smeared a group of foreigners that they (the prosecutors) did not think would fight back. Big mistake.

Let me take you back to February 2018. The headlines of the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, and The Atlantic blared the following propaganda:

A Cornerstone of Russia Hacked the 2016 Election Collapses

More on the decision…..

The Justice Department is moving to drop charges against two Russian companies that were accused of funding a social media campaign to sway American public opinion during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Prosecutors said they concluded that a trial, against a corporate defendant with no presence in the United States and no prospect of meaningful punishment even if convicted, would likely expose sensitive law enforcement tools and techniques, “potentially undermining their effectiveness.”

Concord Management and Consulting LLC and Concord Catering were among three companies and 13 individuals charged in 2018 by special counsel Robert Mueller in a conspiracy to spread disinformation on social media during the 2016 presidential race. The effort was aimed at dividing American public opinion and sowing discord in the electorate, officials said.

So basically the whole investigation and indictment process was a massive waste of time and money.

Glad to see that DC is still the wasteful pile of manure it has always been.

Trump Nixes The DPA

Recently there has been news about the Defense Production Act and its use to fill the void of much needed medical supplies……I helped my readers get on the right page……https://lobotero.com/2020/03/21/what-is-the-defense-protection-act/

Personally, it is a great idea…..gear up the production for much needed supplies….but it appears the the president does not want that to happen…..

President Trump on Sunday rejected calls from governors, hospitals and others to direct companies to ramp up production of critical supplies for the coronavirus fight through the use of the Defense Production Act.

Trump argued that he has used the Defense Production Act (DPA) as leverage in negotiations with companies to get them to produce supplies and equipment for the coronavirus fight.

He also argued against nationalizing industries, though that is not something that would be done through the use of the DPA.

The news is dire from Italy where about 1400 people died over the weekend and there are predictions that the US is about 10 days behind where Italy is…..and yet the president is still trying to look business and takes victory laps for nothing in particular.

To me Trump looks as out of touch as anyone can be……he still seems to believe that all will return to “normal” in due time.

In this time of dire need……the country needs leadership not some kick the can down the road bullshit…….

President Trump says the US will reevaluate its coronavirus strategy at the end of the month to determine “which way we want to go.” In an all-caps tweet, he wrote: “We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself,” without elaborating, reports Reuters. It could be a nod to the sentiment expressed late last week by the conservative editorial board of the Wall Street Journal. The board argued that while an initial shutdown of about two weeks is wise and necessary, a longer break would be catastrophic for US businesses and their employees. “That should be the moment, if not sooner, to offer new guidance on what might be called phase two of the coronavirus pandemic campaign,” the editors wrote.

The 15-day period Trump is referencing began March 16 when he outlined a series of proposals to help stem the spread of the virus. Since then, states have taken initiatives of their own, and now more than 1 in 3 Americans are under stay-at-home orders, reports US News & World Report. That includes those in the states of New York, California, Illinois, Connecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, Louisiana, and Delaware, as well as in the city of Philadelphia. “At the end of the 15-day period, we will make a decision as to which way we want to go!” wrote Trump.

States are showing leadership…..but we need unity and a national leadership….that is what we elected this person to do and he is FAILING on every level.

How many Americans can die in that 15 day period?

Confidence is sinking…..for me it has sunk……

Please…..Stay calm……avoid crowds…..wash hands often…..us bloggers will pass on all info as it comes available….

The Games Being Played While The Nation Suffers

Let me begin by pointing out the 51 Senators that voted against paid sick leave….

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/03/19/here-are-51-republican-senators-who-just-voted-against-expanding-paid-sick-leave-all

https://www.newsweek.com/8-senate-republicans-vote-against-paid-sick-leave-coronavirus-over-concerns-about-costs-businesses-1493103

COWARDS!

In case you missed it…….”Senate Republicans are using the COVID-19 pandemic to cut corporate taxes again and stop you from getting paid sick leave.”

Heartless,” “cruel,” and “appalling” were just some of the adjectives progressive critics and analysts used late Thursday to describe the Senate GOP’s newly unveiled trillion-dollar economic stimulus package which—by design—would completely deny direct cash payments to the poorest Americans while cutting taxes for corporations, dishing out tens of billions in bailout funds to major industries, and restricting paid leave benefits that were just signed into law this week.

“The Senate GOP package is an utter disgrace,” tweeted Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO. “It gives free money to corporations, ignores the health crisis, and does nothing to keep people working or help the unemployed. The labor movement will oppose this Main St. bailout of Wall St. with everything we have.”

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/03/20/utter-disgrace-gop-stimulus-plan-would-cut-taxes-corporations-while-denying-benefits

These cowards ought to be shamed everywhere….they are using this emergency to try and make their donors more wealthy….and make NO mistake….anyone that sided with these toads is a COWARD!

Something that I have covered before……profit taking (senators) and price gouging (Big Pharma)…..

As the number of global COVID-19 cases soared past 254,000 and the death toll topped 10,000 on Friday, concerns persisted—particularly in the United States—about healthcare costs related to the ongoing outbreak, limited testing and protective medical supplies, and how corporations may try to cash in on the public health crisis.

The Intercept‘s Naomi Klein, author of the 2007 book The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, warned earlier this week in a video about “coronavirus capitalism” that the U.S. and other governments are “exploiting” the COVID-19 pandemic “to push for no-strings-attached corporate bailouts and regulatory rollbacks.”

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/03/20/coronavirus-cases-mount-so-do-concerns-about-price-gouging-and-corporate

One final note……I feel that this response by the president is still getting everything all wrong…..

Donald Trump has consistently been failing the country in dealing with the coronavirus. Due to Trump’s failed public health response, even Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin acknowledges that we are facing the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression. This is in addition to the prospect of tens of millions of people getting the coronavirus and hundreds of thousands, or even millions, dying.

It is encouraging that the Trump administration is now taking steps to respond to the economic damage, but from what has been disclosed, its plan is poorly designed. First and foremost, we have heard no discussion of the federal government taking a direct role in providing the resources needed to deal with the crisis.

This would mean, for example, having the Army Corps of Engineers establish emergency hospital facilities to house the large number of patients needing care. It would also mean increasing the supply of ventilators and other medical equipment, with the government prepared to work directly with factories here and elsewhere to remove obstacles to ramping up production. Apparently, Trump has told the governors to find such equipment on their own.

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2020/03/19/trump-stimulus-plan-still-getting-everything-wrong

This illustrates just how ill-prepared the government is to deal with this pandemic and it also shows just how unimportant the people are to the Senate.

Americans deserve better than they are getting from these slugs.

Let’s not leave the slugs in the corporations out of the fray……many businesses are starting to beg the government to bail them out…..and yet some CEOs are getting bonuses……you heard that right!

While us peasants have to tighten our belts too survive….CEOs are still getting their massive perks.

Goldman Sachs gave CEO David Solomon a 20% raise to a head-spinning  $27.5 million in assets and cash for his work last year, the company revealed.

The news comes as the Trump administration weighs massive industry bailouts amid the coronavirus crisis — and triggers memories of the Wall Street bailout, which included $10 billion for Goldman Sachs.

Solomon’s compensation for 2019 includes $2 million in salary, more than $15 million in stock and a $7.7 million cash bonus, the company reported Friday.

Former company CEO Lloyd Blankfein took in a record $41 million in compensation in 2008. (Blackfein said last month that he might vote for Donald Trump if Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) became the Democratic presidential nominee.) Solomon is the second-highest paid CEO in company history.

I have NO use for these d/bags……there should be NO bailout until these a/holes put some skin in the game…..after all they can write off any losses on their taxes……these should be prepared that is what they tell us mere mortals all the time….I say SCREW them let them go the way of the Dodo….maybe then we will get businesses that are truly part of the society.

Time for a change!

Update:  Remember that plan for cash?  Well it is being held up by the very people that have made massive stock trades just before this pandemic hit….

Negotiations between Congress and the White House teetered Sunday over a nearly $2 trillion economic rescue package as the coronavirus crisis deepened, per the AP. As President Trump took to the podium in the White House briefing room and promised to help Americans who feel afraid and isolated as the pandemic spreads, the Senate voted against advancing the rescue package. But negotiations continued on Capitol Hill. At the otherwise emptied out Capitol, the draft aid bill was declared insufficient by Democrats, who argued it was tilted toward corporations and did too little to help workers and health care providers. The setback sent Republicans back to the negotiating table. “Americans don’t need to see us haggling endlessly,” warned Senate Majority Leader McConnell on the Senate floor. He sought passage of the package by Monday.

But Democrats say the largely GOP-led effort does not go far enough to provide health care and unemployment aid for Americans, and fails to put restraints on a proposed $500 billion “slush fund” for corporations. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said the draft package “significantly cut back our hospitals, our cities, our states, our medical workers and so many others needed in this crisis.” The package would include relief checks to Americans, possibly two separate ones for a total of $2,000. Trump predicted the two sides would reach agreement soon. “To me it’s not very complicated: We have to help the worker. We have to save the companies,” Trump said. “We’re enduring a great national trial and we will prove that we can meet the moment. We’re at war.”

More games being played with citizen’s lives.

An inept president…..and a bunch of cowards in Congress…..can this government get any more pathetic?  The answer is YES!

Return Of M*A*S*H

Oh NO! That does not mean the popular movie and TV show but it is about the concept of M*A*S*H….Mobile Army Surgical Hospital….a concept that needs to be revive, taken out of mothballs as it were..

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that military mobile hospitals are on standby to back up local hospitals in combating the coronavirus outbreak.

In addition to the mobile hospitals, Trump said that the Army Corps of Engineers has been alerted to be ready to renovate empty buildings to serve as isolation units for a potential surge of coronavirus patients, which could overwhelm local facilities.

Trump referred to Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals, or MASH units, made famous by the TV show about the Korean War, starring Alan Alda. The last MASH unit was deactivated in 2006, however, its successor was combat support hospitals, which transitioned to modular field hospitals in 2017.

Trump said the military is “ready, willing and able” to commit field hospital units and the Corps of Engineers, but “we’re starting the process” to mobilize them. No final decisions have been made, he said.

Really?

Why was this not one of the first thoughts on how to protect the people of this country?
