Occasionally I write about my region and a recent report has me concerned.
The Coast is basically 30 miles….from bridge to bridge as we like to call it.
We have had our share of crime on the Coast but it is getting worse by the year……for instance homicides…..
Today’s fatal shooting in Biloxi makes number six on the growing homicide list in Harrison County.
Over the last week, a crime wave washed over the Coast, hitting Harrison County the hardest. Six Gulf Coast residents in seven days have been the victim of gun violence.
Monday, February 24th a Biloxi family lost 16-year-old Madison Harris after her family says they discovered on a doorbell home security video the suspects leaving the Harris grandparent’s home following an alleged robbery-turned-murder. The community held a vigil at the Biloxi Lighthouse to honor Madison’s memory on Tuesday.
Crime wave hits the Coast
I write about this because in a region with about 300,000 residents and a low incident of gun violence…this is a huge crime wave.

Perhaps the previous low crime rate encouraged criminals to choose the area as a ‘soft target’?

How do you know that it is not fake news? Has it come home to roost?

How come everybody denies the effects of these things until it comes home to their own back yards? The same thing with gun violence. It is all fear mongering until somebody close to us is killed and it become something else.
I have never denied anything John but those numbers for my area are a bit extreme……but that is just me…..chuq
If you think they are extreme now, just wait and see what extreme can really be.
John what are you talking about? I just wrote about the deaths in an area that has very little gun violence deaths…..after that it is all noise. chuq
I used to live in an area that had no such deaths but all of a sudden over the course of one summer, we were branded the murder capital of the world.
My area has about 5 deaths a year thanks to guns…..and now we have 6 in a week and another in critical condition…..unusual for us and that is all there is to say chuq
If your area is typical, it will get worse as time goes by.
That is the prediction from the 70’s forward and it has been BS then as it is now chuq
From the sound of it, it has already gotten worse.
And it only took 50 years to arrive……chuq
everything moves slower in the south.
Maybe in 1960….but those days are in the past…..their thinking may be slower but the society is not….chuq
