What About 9/11?

Closing Thought–15Apr19

I am sick of these “people”(I use the term reluctantly) that are all over the Omar thing are the ones that use 9/11 as a political weapon……like the newest toad from Texas, and they have many……Rep. Crenshaw…

This from Shareblue Media…..*****I post most of the article because I have some readers that read the title and maybe the first couple of sentences and think they have a grip on what I may post about……my apologies to the American Independent******

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) reportedly told a New York City firefighter who survived the 9/11 attacks that he was too busy to listen to concerns about helping victims of the worst terrorist attack in American history.

“He really didn’t want to talk to us,” Rob Serra, told the NY Daily News about his encounter with the recently elected Republican. The firefighter told the paper Crenshaw said he was “too busy” to speak.

When Serra approached Crenshaw about renewing the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund during a visit to Capitol Hill in March, “He said he didn’t have any information and that his staff would take care of it.”

The compensation fund has recently had to cut its payouts to first responders and others who were hurt in the attacks, and needs Congress to authorize more money for its ongoing operation.

A total of 81,404 Americans rely on the fund, including 375 Texas residents.

Despite his callous stance, Crenshaw recently tried to use 9/11 as a political weapon.

Echoing right-wing media outlets like Fox News, Crenshaw falsely alleged that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) had insulted the memory of 9/11. Omar was pointing out that Muslims had unfairly come under fire after the attack, thanks to religious bigotry. But conservatives twisted her words — as they repeatedly have.

“First Member of Congress to ever describe terrorists who killed thousands of Americans on 9/11 as ‘some people who did something.’ Unbelievable,” Crenshaw wrote, smearing the congresswoman.

Noting his disingenuous attack and the manner in which he dismissed 9/11 survivors, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called out Crenshaw.

“You refuse to cosponsor the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund, yet have the audacity to drum resentment towards Ilhan w/completely out-of-context quotes,” she wrote. “In 2018, right-wing extremists were behind almost ALL US domestic terrorist killings. Why don’t you go do something about that?”

I dislike hypocrites but our government is made of these cowards…..

The GOP has tried to use the attacks on 9/11 as political props……and their actions show they could care less….all talk and no action….the credo of the American politician.

As despicable as I find this “person”….there is someone who is more despicable…..a person that promises support then renigs…..

In the wake of the controversy involving President Donald Trump sharing an edited video disparaging a Muslim lawmaker’s remarks about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, it’s important to note that there’s still no indication that Trump himself fulfilled promises to donate to charities aimed at helping rescue workers who responded to those attacks

Less than a month after the attacks occurred, Trump appeared on “The Howard Stern Show” and made a promise to donate $10,000 to the Twin Towers Fund. Yet if Trump did give, there’s no record to indicate that he has done so, leading many to conclude that the promise has yet to be fulfilled nearly 18 years after the attacks.

Yet another Repub that is in a class of cowards that the country can do without….and hopefully we will.

Tax Day=Pay Day

Today is when most Americans learn if they owe or get a trefund from the IRS…..the tax reforms of 2017 screwed many Americans out of their deductions…..but as usual corporations get a pay day…..

M-IC will be the big winners on Tax Day……

In tax season, most of us think more about getting our forms in on time—and getting our refunds—than about where our tax dollars actually go.

It’s probably no surprise that a significant portion—24 cents out of every dollar—of your taxes go to the military. But where those dollars go from there should be a national scandal.

Out of those 24 cents, just 5 cents go to our troops. But 12 cents go to corporate military contractors.

For a country that claims to celebrate our troops, with holidays and yellow ribbons and patriotic displays of the flag, we sure don’t put our money where our mouth is. Every year for tax day, my organization looks at where our tax dollars go. And every year, far more money goes to Pentagon contractors than to our troops.

All told, the average taxpayer handed over $1,704 to Pentagon contractors last year, compared to $683 for military pay, housing, and other benefits (except military health care, which has its own agency). Still, the taxes we pay for military contractors are more than twice as much as the average contribution for veterans’ health and benefits ($833).

Me?  I broke even this year….I was lucky…..most Americans will not be that fortunate.

Little do we know…..nothing good has come out of these tax cuts…….especially for the revenue of the nation…..

And believe it or not……the Trump tax cuts are popular only with the uber rich….go figure……

Multiple polls show a majority of Americans don’t think they got a tax cut at all — even though independent analyses show they did. And only around a third of the country approves of the legislation itself, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, passed by Congress at the end of 2017.

So as Trump moves closer to full-time reelection mode later this year, he will have to battle a stark reality: While his personal rating on the economy remains high, his signature legislative achievement is widely viewed as a political dud, one that has drawn special anger in places with high state and local taxes and pricey housing markets where deductions were limited to reduce the overall cost of the tax plan.

Not to worry……this all comes around again next year.

Mayor Pete Makes It Official

Really?  I thought he already was a candidate…….

The young ex-mayor of South Bend, Indiana has made it official he is running for the presidency…..

Pete Buttigieg, the little-known Indiana mayor who has risen to prominence in the early stages of the 2020 Democratic presidential race, made his official campaign entrance Sunday by claiming the mantle of a youthful generation ready to reshape the country, the AP reports. “I recognize the audacity of doing this as a Midwestern millennial mayor,” he said to cheers of “Pete, Pete, Pete” from an audience assembled in a former Studebaker auto plant. “More than a little bold, at age 37, to seek the highest office in the land.” The South Bend mayor, a Rhodes scholar and Afghanistan War veteran who has been essentially campaign since January, has joined a dozen-plus rivals vying to take on President Donald Trump.

“The forces of change in our country today are tectonic,” he said. “Forces that help to explain what made this current presidency even possible. That’s why, this time, it’s not just about winning an election—it’s about winning an era.” Buttigieg will return this week to Iowa and New Hampshire, which hold the nation’s first nominating contests, to campaign as a full-fledged candidate now being taken more seriously. Over the past few months, Buttigieg has appeared frequently on national TV news and talk shows and developed a strong social media following with his message that the country needs “a new generation of leadership.” Buttigieg’s poll numbers have climbed. Some polls put him behind only Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden, who hasn’t yet said he’s running.

I have been writing about this man for a month or so……I think he is new and exciting ….we have enough boring candidates……

Mayor Pete has many hurdles to overcome if he is to win the nomination……

Now, as Buttigieg officially kicks of his campaign Sunday, he has gone from largely unknown to a media darling who is seen as a serious contender in the crowded Democratic field to take on President Donald Trump in 2020.

The South Bend mayor has outraised some of his more established rivals. And in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire, he has landed in the top tier of polls among the Democratic White House hopefuls.

Watch this candidate….there is something there…..

For me he is a bit too much…too center orientated…..if this country is to return to our rightful place among the world’s nations then we need bold ideas and bold actions…..I just do not think Mayor Pete has it in him…..he will become a slave to the Dem Old Guard….the old farts that do little and speak much.

Taxing The Rich!

It is TAX DAY!

OMG! That is almost blasphemous these days.

The lie spread is that the less tax the wealthy pay to more economic activity they produce and in turn the better the Middle Class and workers will do.

Pause here for the inevitable dash to the Google machine……..

Just about every viable candidate for the Dems has some plan or other to tax the rich so at least we get something from these people….Warren, AOC, Bernie, Yang et al…..it is a popular meme for Dems this cycle.

The 1990s Democratic Party made friends with the rich. The 2008 Democratic Party was eager to bail them out. The 2019 Democratic Party seems ready to declare war.

In just the past few months, at least three major Democratic Party figures, two of whom are presidential contenders, have proposed large tax increases targeted at the richest Americans:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) floated a big increase in top marginal income tax rates in an interview on 60 Minutes. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) proposed an annual wealth tax. Sen. Bernie Sanders. (I-VT) proposed a drastic hike in the estate tax.

There is a way and there is a desire by the people to see the rich to start paying their share of the American Dream……

How successful will these people be in this endeavor?

If you listen close enough you can hear the big guns of corproate America being prepared for war.

2020 is the voters chance to change the course of the crumbling America……but do they have the guts to step up for change or will they roll over like they have been doing since the 1990s?
