Closing Thought–30Sep18

Here is the perfect example of American justice and how uneven it is spread around our society……

In 2008 the big banks tanked our economy billions were lost, many people lost their retirements, it was a disaster……and of all those bankers that tanked the economy none were made to pay for the treachery….and then you read a story like this……

Ten years after the behavior of over-leveraged and fraudulent banks created a global financial disaster that resulted in hundreds of billions of dollars in losses; a multi-trillion bailout using public money; and millions of people losing their homes to foreclosure, but saw not one high-level financial executive go to jail, a man in Florida has been sentenced to a 20-year prison term for stealing $600 worth of cigarettes from a local convenience store.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2018/09/24/ten-years-after-not-one-high-level-banker-sent-jail-tanking-global-economy-man-gets

Are you surprised at this?  I am not…..if you are not wealthy then you are crap under the boots of the elites….but that is okay for things will change with the next election….or is it the one after that……maybe later?

Oh yeah….I believe the cigarette guy was black….go figure!

Was That “Selfie” Worth It?

We are living in a world where we demand our acknowledgement……we have YouTube…..Insta thingy….Pin that….Snap doodle…..doo da doo da……but the most irritating thing are those damn “selfies”.

Do I really need to explain the term?

We see them every where you go…..groups. shows, concerts, parks anywhere one chooses to go……this society makes it essential that we document our lives at every turn…..

But is it really all that important?  Ask Tu Nguyen….no wait you cannot…she is dead.

What should have been a day of hiking with awe-inspiring views turned tragic in Michigan Wednesday when a woman fell to her death into Lake Superior. WLUC reports 32-year-old Tu Thanh Nguyen, from Sunnyvale, Calif., was traversing the trails along the cliffs of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore by herself when she decided to stop to snap a few selfies. She apparently got too close to the edge of the 200-foot-high cliff she was perched on and plummeted over the side, into the water below.

Two kayakers saw Nguyen fall and rushed to retrieve her, and once back on shore, a kayak company called for help. The Detroit Free Press cites Michigan State University data that shows the lake would’ve been a chilly 45 degrees when Nguyen fell in. A park ranger tells the Marquette Mining Journal she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The National Park Service has deemed her death an accident. (An Israeli teen recently fell to his death taking a selfie in Yosemite.)

I wish I could say that this was an isolated case…..but I cannot…..

Now was it really that important to snap a pic of that moment in your life?

I do nothing that needs to be recorded for prosperity….and if I do I will find someone to snap that photo and not walk off a cliff.

To close out this post with some music from “Wet Cactus”……

Coming To A City Near You

Saturday afternoon and the weather is warm and humid…..I have been hanging with the newest member of the family and puppy named Mojave….MO for short.  Damn!  I wish I had half the energy as this little girl.

Training a new puppy is just frustrating at times and other times it is just fascinating…..and a lot of fun.

But I need to move on to today’s second post……keeping with my tradition of posting stories that are not in the headlines is difficult at times for the MSM drives the conversation and does not like stories that bring them no notoriety…..

So onward,,,,,,,,

The digital age is approaching the climax (in more ways than one)…..you see sex is everyone’s favorite past time and droids are making it interesting….and I have written about this on several occasions…..

https://lobotero.com/2017/05/21/is-artificial-as-good-as-real/

https://lobotero.com/2017/12/02/once-again-more-sex/

All this is the introduction to the “dolls” because very soon they are coming to a city near you…….

“Sex Robot Battle” sounds like the name of a B-movie one might stumble on during late-night channel-surfing, but that’s actually how KTRK depicts a war brewing between the mayor of a Texas city and the owner of a “sexbot business” out of Canada. The owner of KinkySDollS, which already has a location in Toronto—where patrons can pay for a private room and sex doll for anywhere between 30 minutes and two hours—tells the station he’s bringing his sex shop to Houston, and KHOU reports that Mayor Sylvester Turner is definitely not in a welcoming mood. “It’s not the sort of business that we advertise for, or we seek to attract,” Turner says. “Or quite frankly, from my point of view, the sort of business that I want in the city of Houston.”

A petition that so far has more than 9,000 signatures lays out the underlying issues—namely, that bot brothels will “ultimately harm men, their understanding of healthy sexuality, and increase the demand for the prostitution and sexual exploitation of women and children.” It also notes health risks, as there’s “no proven safe way to handle the disinfection of the humanoids.” But there may not be much the city can do to stop KinkySDollS from setting down roots. “There’s a difference between human prostitution and artificial prostitution,” a KHOU analyst says. “And therefore, there’s no law, that I’m aware of, that prohibits this.” Lawyers who talked to KTRK agree, though Turner says he’ll at least try to update local ordinances and make sure the business isn’t located near schools, day cares, or “faith-based institutions.”

I guess anything one can find to relieve tension is a good thing because tension can lead to gun violence (sorry just had to make the connection between sex dolls and gun violence)……

And now for a small musical interlude…….

May your Saturday be as relaxing as you wanted….peace out my friends…..chuq

Reading Is Essential!

Autumn began last week……that much closer to some cooler weather and down here that is important……

One of my crowning achievements is imparting my love of reading and books onto my daughter and now onto my granddaughter.

I have about 2500 books in my library and less then 10 books of fiction.  To say I love reading is an understatement….I like the feel of the pages, the smell of an old book….all in all I love books.

Recently the push has been for “books on tape” (audio books) this lets people “read” a book while driving, jogging, even when having sex (but I would not try this if one wants to keep breathing)…..this lets people expand their knowledge and their enjoyment of literature.

I admit it that I have been a critic of “books on tape”……well the truth is I have been a book snob.  I felt that something was being missed by listening to your book instead of reading it.

Well, like everything someone has done a study on this subject……

Even for people who love books, finding the opportunity to read can be a challenge. Many, then, rely on audiobooks, a convenient alternative to old-fashioned reading. You can listen to the latest bestseller while commuting or cleaning up the house.

But is listening to a book really the same as reading one?

“I was a fan of audiobooks, but I always viewed them as cheating,” says Beth Rogowsky, an associate professor of education at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

I will withdraw to the “War Room” and kick back and do whatever the Hell I want…..I love being retired.

Closing Thought–28Sep18

Obama’s Fault!

These days the comedians in the Trump GOP are still blaming everything that goes wrong on Obama.

There is an Arizona GOP candidate that is such a dick that even his family will not vote for him and even went so far as to make an ad against his candidacy….

Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar admitted to being hurt by the political attack ad that featured six of his siblings saying they were voting for his opponent and blamed the tactic on former President Barack Obama.

During a radio interview on The Mike Broomhead Show Monday, Gosar explained to host Mike Broomhead that on a personal level it did “sting” to see his siblings in the advertisement. “Blood is supposed to be thicker than water,” he explained.

Gosar shared that his son is named after his brother, Gaston, who appeared in the ad, and that it’s taken a toll on him. However, the congressman chalked it up to the old saying, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

https://www.newsweek.com/arizona-congressman-paul-gosar-says-ads-featuring-siblings-stings-claims-its-1138279

You gotta love it when the brothers and sisters of a candidate think he is such a bad choice that they make campaign ads against his/her candidacy…..

It is a Friday and the beginning of a weekend….enjoy your time….chuq

Seriously! What Did It Accomplish?

Yes I watched the hearings for SCOTUS yesterday….not because I give a shit on who gets what….I watched because I wanted to see how far these toads would push the political theater.

I was not disappointed.

I made the investment in beer and popcorn……

We had Graham give his little rant that nothing to do with anything but the cameras were on.

We had the nominee teared up over his yearbook entry…..very phony in appearance.  But he made damn sure that he got his digs oin at those that tried to get to the bottom of the accusations.  (not convincing in the least)

In a public meltdown that many found nearly impossibly to comprehend, Brett Kavanaugh’s opening statement and early responses before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday offered a stark contrast to Dr. Christine Ford’s morning appearance, as the Supreme Court nominee launched into an angry, tear-streaked tirade against the Democratic Party and those who have alleged that he sexual assaulted them.

https://theantimedia.com/brett-kavanaugh-falls-apart-national-tv/

We had Orin Hatch talking and showing that dementia is setting in.

We had Jeff Flake talk about his confusion and  decisions to be made (his  mind was made up a week ago)

We had the Dems on the committee get their digs in against the nominee

And we had the president do what the president knows how to do (about the only thing he does know how to do) he tweeted his thoughts and patted himself on the back.

He was not alone…Tweeter was alive with the tribal back and forth….that accomplishes nothing but confusion and hate.

All in all this “hearing” was a total waste of time and money.  It accomplished nothing but a source of so-called “news”……and the speculation that followed….endless.

Now the vote will go forward and the GOP will weather the repercussions from these accusations.

But there is more that is being ignored……

The media, Congress, and the American people continue to fix to their attention on Brett Kavanaugh and today’s hearings regarding allegations of sexual assault and harassment against him. While these are serious issues and should not be taken lightly, there are numerous other developments that are falling by the wayside as the national conversation remains preoccupied with the Supreme Court nominee.

https://theantimedia.com/5-stories-brett-kavanaugh/

In the end we will have another philandering judge on the Supreme Court…..another judge that puts ideology ahead of the rule of law.

What can I say…..I suffer the slings and arrows of bad political theater so my reader does not….

New Plan–News About Iran

Jeez…..it is that time of the year……the UN meetings where everyone gets to act out.

For years Israel would go to the annual UN meeting and bring their chart about the nukes that Iran were developing…..the same year after year……that is until 2018….apparently they have a new plan.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran on Thursday of keeping a “secret atomic warehouse” just outside its capital, despite the 2015 deal with world powers that was meant to keep it from obtaining nuclear weapons. Hours later, Iran dismissed the allegation. Holding up a poster-board map of an area near Tehran as he spoke at the United Nations General Assembly, Netanyahu told world leaders that Iranian officials have been keeping up to 300 tons of nuclear equipment and material in a walled, unremarkable-looking property near a rug-cleaning operation, the AP reports.

“You have to ask yourself a question: Why did Iran keep a secret atomic archive and a secret atomic warehouse?” Netanyahu asked. “What Iran hides, Israel will find.” Netanyahu didn’t specify what the material and equipment was, and it was not immediately clear whether it was a violation of the nuclear deal. The International Atomic Energy Agency, which has been monitoring Iran’s compliance with the agreement, had no immediate comment. In a tweet, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif derided the Israeli presentation as an “arts and craft show” by a country that he said needed to come clean about its own nuclear program. He said there was nothing to the Israeli allegation.

Every year their was a new prediction of when Iran would acquire those nukes….it ranged from months to 5 years just depending on the audience they were addressing.

Israel has been lying about Iran for 30 years and now they have helped the Neocons running game in the White House get the action against Iran they have been trying to achieve….

Of course Israel has not appreciated any form of nuke deal short of the total destruction of the state of Iran….but the major powers are trying hard to save the nuke deal……

In a statement after a meeting of Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and Iran, the group said they were determined to develop payment mechanisms to continue trade with Iran despite skepticism by many diplomats that this will be possible.

“Mindful of the urgency and the need for tangible results, the participants welcomed practical proposals to maintain and develop payment channels notably the initiative to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to facilitate payments related to Iran’s exports, including oil,” the group said in a joint statement issued after the statement.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-iran-nuclear/iran-major-powers-labor-to-keep-nuclear-deal-afloat-idUSKCN1M5011

Our Dear Leader wishes to cut a deal with Iran on the nuke thingy……

The United States is seeking to negotiate a treaty with Iran to include Tehran’s ballistic missile programme and regional activity, the US special envoy for Iran said on Wednesday, ahead of UN meetings in New York next week.

Iran has rejected US attempts to hold high-level talks since President Donald Trump tore up a nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers earlier this year.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo listed a dozen demands in May that he said could make up a new agreement, although envoy Brian Hook’s reference to a treaty, which would have to be approved by the US Senate, appears to be a new focus.

The 2015 deal was an executive agreement that was not ratified by the US Senate and covered only Iran’s nuclear programme.

https://theantimedia.com/washington-new-nuclear-deal-iran/

There was nothing wrong with the original plan……these attempts by the Trumpian toads is a worthless waste of time……

The Neocons are revving up the rhetoric…..kinda reminds me of the days before the invasion of Iraq in 2003…..are we on that road again?

We Can Pretend…

..But with or without Kavanaugh there will be nothing changed when it comes to abortion.

We have had good judges and then we have had the ones we have today.

These judges are the referees of our republic and yet it has come down to ideology not the rule of law.  The judges are voting, for the most part, along party lines not whether a law is beneficial or restrictive to the population.

As the midterm elections speed towards us, defeated Americans hope for a ‘blue wave’ of Democrats to save us. Republicans, who align across the board with President Trump’s corporate ecocide agenda, want to push through Trump’s despicable Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh before a potential blue wave. Republicans may not trust Donald Trump, but they agree with him on the issues and will take whatever gains he has provided the party.

Trump has called his nominee Kavanaugh a man of outstanding intellect. Such a phrase coming from Trump is enough to make anyone giggle. It’s like the tortoise saying the sloth is extremely fast. It all depends on the perspective.

Whenever Trump cozies up to someone it always makes me uneasy. For one, it is always so over the top it becomes clear Trump has never given a genuine compliment to anyone in his life. Even more troubling would be the character of the person Trump is complimenting. If he finds something redeemable about you, you should take a long look in the mirror.

https://www.counterpunch.org/2018/09/21/with-or-without-kavanaugh-the-united-states-is-anti-choice/

I beginning to think that the Supreme Court is a colossal waste of time and money….why not just banish these spineless partisan hacks and just let the elections decide what the laws of the country will be and who gets screwed by them.

Of course I am being a bit bombastic here….but you get what I am railing about, right?

A New Cold War?

Our Dear Leader went to the UN and made his feelings known.  First was the humor that was unintended but he made it sound like it was a humor set-up…..anything to make it look like it was his idea…..after his chuckle he then went before the UN Security Council and made another threat……

President Trump on Wednesday accused China of trying to meddle in the 2018 elections in a bid to keep him down. While opening a UN Security Council meeting, Trump put it like so, per the BBC: “In my remarks yesterday to the United Nations General Assembly, I laid out my administration’s commitment to building a more just and peaceful future. Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election coming up in November against my administration. They do not want me or us to win because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade. We are winning on trade. We are winning at every level. We don’t want them to meddle or interfere in our upcoming election.”

Foreign Minister Wang Yi, China’s representative on the Security Council, responded with a denial, reports CNN: “We do not and will not interfere in any countries’ domestic affairs. We refuse to accept any unwarranted accusations against China, and we call on other countries to also observe the purposes of the UN charter and not interfere in other countries’ internal affairs.” Trump was later asked what proof he had. “Plenty of evidence,” he replied, though he didn’t offer any. The AP reports a Chinese delegate “shrugged” when the remarks were translated in the General Assembly.

It will be China this time…..will it be the talk of the town as the Russian thing for the 2016 election?  Somehow I doubt it.

But as long as we are talking China.

Our Dear Leader has a massive hard-on for China and just keeps poking the dragon in the eye about trade…..

resident Donald Trump is making good on his pledge to escalate the trade war with China by imposing tariffs on US$200 billion of Chinese goods. The Chinese government, for its part, is already retaliating with new taxes on $60 billion of American imports.

If you’re curious why China’s sanctions don’t match Trump’s, there’s an easy explanation. As a number of commentators have correctly pointed out, Beijing is running out of American products to target. Americans bought $375 billion more stuff from China than the Chinese bought from the U.S. last year, which means Trump has a lot more to punish.

While this may mean that China’s leverage on trade is limited, it doesn’t mean that Trump can easily win this confrontation.

https://theantimedia.com/trump-trade-war-china-cold-war/

I do believe this situation will get uglier before it gets better….if ever.

Closing Thoughts–27Sep18

I have been writing for years about the Draft or if you will conscription……..

https://lobotero.com/2015/10/05/would-a-return-to-conscription-substantially-reduce-the-probability-of-war/

https://lobotero.com/2007/04/10/why-no-draft/

As an antiwar person I would not support the draft….but on the other hand it would make the media focus on our numerous wars and American deaths….and in return help create a vibrant antiwar movement.

But recent news has it that the Army is not meeting their goaals in recruitment…..

For the first time since 2005, the US Army missed its recruiting goal this year, falling short by about 6,500 soldiers, despite pouring an extra $200 million into bonuses and approving some additional waivers for bad conduct or health issues, the AP reports. Army leaders said they signed up about 70,000 new active-duty recruits in the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30—well short of the 76,500 they needed. The Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps all met their recruiting goals for 2018. The Army’s shortfall, says Maj. Gen. Joe Calloway, was fueled by the strong American economy and increased competition from private sector employers who can pay more. But the failure has triggered an overhaul in Army recruiting, including an increase in recruiters, expanded marketing, and a new effort to reach out to young, potential recruits through popular online gaming.

Calloway says there were several thousand permanent legal residents seeking to enlist, but they did not get through the screening process in time. The recruiting struggles come at the end of a tumultuous year for the Army, which faced questions from Congress over its expanded use of waivers for recruits with previous marijuana use, bad conduct, and some health problems. In addition to the Army competing with the private sector, there just aren’t that many potential recruits: Only about 30 percent of 17- to 24-year-olds meet the physical, mental and moral requirements for the military, and only one in eight are interested in serving.

Like I said I am starting to re-think my stand on conscription……

When I started working for War Resisters’ International in 2012, we were beginning to rethink our strategy as a group supporting conscientious objectors: a central concern since our foundation in 1921. According to international standards, the right to conscientious objection should be available not just to conscripts but also to professional soldiers who join up voluntarily. In reality however, most of WRI’s work up to that point had been in supporting conscripted soldiers – those who had to sign up without making an active choice to do so. But in the twenty years leading up to 2012, conscription had been suspended or abolished in at least twenty two states[1]. What did this mean for those supporting draft evaders, if there was not much of the draft left?

https://www.wri-irg.org/en/story/2018/return-conscription

I have been an antiwar activist and protester since 1973 when I returned to civilian life after 2 and half years in Vietnam…..but the only way to keep from fighting endless wars (like we have now) is a strong antiwar movement and if conscription can deliver then I am going to support it.
