For me foreign policy was the most important issue in this election…..I am pleased that the war hawk did not make the cut…..and I am dubious about the direction Trump will try to take this country……
He may change his tune once he gets that total intel briefing just before he is sworn in….we will just have to go with what he has said for the time being…..but as it is now……what will his foreign policy look like…..
Daniel Byman, Senior Fellow, Center for Middle East Policy: For those looking for some consolation after Donald Trump’s triumph, it is tempting to hope that his actual power will be limited. On the domestic side, of course, there is the constraining power of Congress, America’s federal structure, and the courts. And on the foreign policy side, scholars often point to the international system, arguing that power balances, the demands of allies, and other factors beyond the control of any one country will limit foreign policy options. For those who want the president to shake things up, this is bad news. But for those who worry about a new president’s agenda, this view of things is reassuring.

There so many opinions at this point that it is getting overwhelming for NOBODY has any idea what his role for the US will be….we have had lots of rhetoric….but how accurate will that be?
I am not a big fan of the WaPo….but this close to the election there is not much to write about when referring to trump’s foreign policy…..I will take them at their word….until I find different…..
The inexperienced executive could dismantle traditional U.S. alliances and more.
Donald Trump proclaimed “America First” on his way to his head-spinning victory in Tuesday’s presidential election, and the success of that message will rock many foreign capitals where leaders have feared that Trump would alter the basics of U.S. foreign policy.
Making predictions about Trump’s foreign policy is difficult, given his lack of experience. But the most likely bet is that as president he will seek to do what he promised during the campaign in breaking from current U.S. approaches to Russia, the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

I do not trust the WaPo…I included their point of view because I try to give as much info as possible…….I will be watching his appointments for DoD and State….that should tell me the direction that he is going to travel……
Then there is Time’s take on the Trump foreign policy……..
Donald Trump’s foreign policy? Still up in the air at this point. With Hillary Clinton, we would have known exactly what we were getting. That was her biggest selling point—and a big part of the problem. But Trump is the ultimate black box. Much of this was by design—making America great again was always about America itself, allies and enemies be damned. That makes for an effective political pitch, but it’s a wholly unrealistic governing philosophy for a person whose main responsibility is to navigate the country through choppy geopolitical waters.
And these days, the waters are heaving. The foreign policy challenges Trump will face on Jan. 20 are much more complex than those that Obama inherited from George W. Bush. Technological change, particularly in communications and in the workplace, creates risks and problems that are entirely new. Russia is looking to undermine U.S. power and influence whenever and wherever possible, and a Trump presidency could well embolden Vladimir Putin. Trump becomes the face of Western capitalism at a moment China is offering the world an alternative economic model. For fans of globalization as it has progressed for the past few decades, that’s cause for concern.

If he holds true to his rhetoric then the Trump foreign policy will look like this……
And if he follows through on some of his foreign policy promises, the world will look vastly different. Here’s a quick rundown:

I am not criticizing the president elect just that we have NOTHING by which to judge the direction he will choose other than his words……The reader could go through my archives and find my posts on Trump and his foreign policy and they will see that I had written that there were some aspects of his campaign foreign policy rhetoric that I liked….we will just have to wait and see…..I will return to turn the beast out…….once he starts naming names……
Will this be a new era of American foreign policy….or more of the same?
Stay tuned for the continuing story of president-elect Trump……
Until then……peace out…….
I’m surprised there isn’t a reality show pitch floating around, like “Real World: Washington” or “Literally, Big Brother”.
Give them time…we do have a prez with experience in this….
Speaking of reality tv…..

No surprised there. Americans are addicted to reality TV, hell, even I watch The Voice (because my wife likes it).
I can say that I do not watch anything in that genre…..my wife dislikes it more than I….I will keep her….LOL
Foreign police is a liquid thing. It develops along with circumstances and events. If Trump does not have a foreign policy now he sure as hell will have one after he meets with his foreign policy advisors. I am sure his foreign policy will go way beyond making international “Apologize for America” excursions.
Not if he keeps sucking up to neocons…it will be more of the same…
To you, Chuq…he will delegate his policy.
To w1nt3l, may your ears not bleed out.
Then he is a puppet not a prez
We will see.
Let us hold our judgments until we see what happens.
The article is about the people he may pick and what it will mean….few are in the rhetoric of the campaign…
The rhetoric of the campaign will now be tempered by cool calm and collected determination. The sales pitch has no further use and now the work of trying to unify the country will begin in earnest. The rhetoric served its purpose… it won the election. No president stays with his campaign rhetoric once the reality of the job sets in. Obuzzmer certainily forgot all abou this rhetoric once the election was secured …. and most presidents have done the same thing.
That is NOT what his voters were after…I was wondering if he will be held accountable…did not have to wait long for that answer
He will be held accountable by the forces determined to destroy this nation.Yes, that’s for sure!
Most nation are destroyed from within….good know
Yes, most nations that are destroyed are destroyed from within — by the very kinds of ignorant bast*rds now out in the streets raising hell because they lost a legal election.
More by asswads that run the government…corruption and lack of interests in the people…kinda like what we have now
Exactly like we have had ever since 2008.
4 years of nothing…gee how lucky is this country
Greatest nation on the face of the earth regardless of internal politics. The welfare queens of the world are still looking to us to take care of them.
LOL
I for one (not being American my view may not count for much) remain very thankful to Hillary Clinton, as thankful as I am she was not elected (that’s another story) for taking the time to explain US foreign policy in exactly six words: “We came, we saw, he died.” Yup, that about sums it up for the last hundred years. I can’t see Trump changing that. All political campaign rhetoric aside (let’s face it, it’s always aside as soon as the votes are cast) he’s a “business man” and the business of America is business – Calvin Coolidge just before the Great Depression. That business has two faces: military and corporate hegemony. If Trump uncharacteristically and for no reason was to challenge that US belief he wouldn’t last a week; he’d have a fortuitous heart attack, or a bullet aimed at a terrorist in Afghanistan would accidentally find its way to the Donald’s brain. Talk, sure. Whitewash, yes of course, but real change? You kidding me? The guy isn’t the martyr type, trust me.
It will be telling to see who he picks for SecState….his two front runners are not showing good reasoning….chuq
“Birds of a feather flock together.” Throughout his business days, and certainly during the campaign, Trump clearly demonstrated his narcissistic, socio-psychopathic nature. The real Trump is the president elect, not the hoped-for Trump. Expect complete disaster and horror. The thing is, it should come as no surprise when Trump chooses distilled villainy to operate his fiefdom and proceeds to benefit personally by further gutting and bankrupting the nation. That’s the nature of the creep, mark my words. He will hire his kind, or worse, to accomplish his own personal ends. Well, why wouldn’t he?
You may be right…..watch for more posts along this line…chuq
