I remember back during the days of the original Star Trek the only “aliens” that had a cloaking device was the Romulans, then later the Klingons had such a device…well Kirk stole the Romulan device and never understood why they did not reverse engineer it and put it on all Federation starships…..
That brings me to today’s post….it seems that we may be able to cloak the entire planet to save it from alien invasion…..
Heeding the warning from theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking that Earth may be unwittingly advertising its presence to intelligent life on other planets, two astrophysicists have proposed using lasers to cloak the planet’s existence, reports Phys.org.
According to a paper submitted to the Royal Astronomical Society, Columbia Professor David Kipping and graduate student Alex Teachey explain that a burst of light from lasers would make it look as if Earth didn’t exist when it passed it front of the sun.
Scientists have warned that intelligent beings elsewhere may search for planets the same way we do — spotting them as they pass in front of stars and temporarily block out the light. The two researchers propose using bursts of light from lasers during Earth’s transit periods.
The two authors of the new study suggest that transits could be masked by controlled laser emission, with the beam directed at the star where the aliens might live. When the transit takes place, the laser would be switched on to compensate for the loss of light emissions.
“There is an ongoing debate as to whether we should advertise ourselves or hide from advanced civilizations potentially living on planets elsewhere in the Galaxy,” Kipping explained. “Our work offers humanity a choice, at least for transit events, and we should think about what we want to do.”
The researchers suggest emitting a continuous 30 MW laser for about 10 hours, once a year, would be enough to eliminate the transit signal at the visible light end of the spectrum.
“Alternatively, we could cloak only the atmospheric signatures associated with biological activity, such as oxygen, which is achievable with a peak laser power of just 160 kW per transit. To another civilization, this should make the Earth appear as if life never took hold on our world”, said Teachey.
According to Hawking, alien civilizations might be looking for planets like Earth that are rich in resources for colonization.
It would be possible to cloak an entire planet….then why not a plane or ship? Got to be cheaper than “stealth” technology…..which only makes something “visible” to radar….

I see two immediate reasoning flaws in this plan. First, to make it work, one must remember the perspective… To flash the lasers periodically, only when we think someone may be in a position to watch for us in transit is, frankly, silly. How will they know? From another position, we may be visible before, or after the flashes…. It would have to be left on all the time to be completely effective, which itself would be an indication of possible life…
Second, how do we know what kind of instrumentation they are using to search the sky? They may perceive energy and matter differently that we do with our senses; to assume they use the same methods we do is making an assumption on pure speculation. They may be able to tell laser light from true sunlight; just because we cannot do so does not mean, or even imply it is not possible…
Fascinating subject for speculation, of which each person’s ideas are as possible as the next’s, for we truly know nothing for sure about what may be out there to find…. Hell, we’re not even sure of what is happening right here in our own space; look at this from Thumb Up’s site:

I’m retired, a senior on SS, disabled… The biggest perk of retiring is my time. it’s all my own; nobody else has any call on it outside my circle of ‘family’.
When I do nap, it’s generally because I was up most of the night in pain.

I’m torn on this. A few thoughts:
1) To paraphrase what Hawking has “said” before, (Or was it Louis C.K.?) “There is no scenario in which an alien species able to find us -and travel to us- ends well for us.” We either get enslaved as a “primitive species”, or wiped out as self-protection from a “dangerous mental contagion”.
We need to stop advertising our existence and cover our asses. Call it a “survival bunker” for the planet.
2) Unless they can travel faster than light, we’ll probably have eradicated ourselves by the time they get here. Hell, maybe if they can travel faster than light.
3) It’s yet another example of our massive human ego/biases at work. We think aliens will find us by using our methodology, which is the best way, of course. And these are the very “best minds” humanity has to offer! Maybe we should let the aliens find us and wipe us off the planet.
But this egotistically assumes they even want to contact us. If I were an intelligent species, I’d but a beacon on the “intergalactic roadway” warning travellers to stay clear of the area. Warning: Human Beings Ahead
And for all we know, these aliens are whale-like creatures cruising the universe looking for other whale-like creatures. For all we know, they’d probably think of us the way we think of squirrels, or ants. Just silly creatures pointlessly running around. Only WE think we’re hot shit, worthy of intergalactic attention. (I just hope the aliens don’t think we taste good.)

It’s absolutely NO surprise to me that “your friendly neighbourhood CIA” still targets its own citizens for mind control experiments/punishments some 40+ years after MKUtra’s official demise. Nor is it surprising that they’d kill a whistle-blowing reporter, even one working for the NY Times.
I first heard about this mind control experiment on the final episode of Conspiracy Theory: With Jesse Ventura called “Brain Invaders”. They also exposed the existence of highly dubious GWEN broadcast/relay towers thought to be still operational decades after the project’s demise. They’ve been long rumoured to be potential sources of mind-control signals.
I also heard of this in the Electronic Harassment episode of Richard Syrett’s The Conspiracy Show where he interviewed some of the same people the murdered NY Times reporter did. So, he better watch his ass!
As crazy as these things sound, the cold hard truth is that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING the CIA and the rest of The Men Who Stare At Goats won’t try to control and/or fuck with people, even completely innocent citizens of their own nation….and to keep it all secret. They just don’t give a fuck.
