I am sure that I have been vocal enough that my readers realize that I think that privatization of the government is a con job…….especially when it comes to fight wars or guarding diplomats…….one of my pet peeves is that of Blackwater (I believe they want to call themselves “XE” these days)……it is NOT in the countries best interest to have a private army….to me it iS NO better than the hated militias in the Middle East…..
Did anyone see “7 Days in May”? If not, may I suggest you watch it and then tell me what you think of a private army operating within the US.
Yes, I know this article is from American Conservative”….get over it! There are some good writing going on, especially this article……
Read and offer up an opinion……
I have a big enough problem with the all volunteer military and the way it creates a separate and permanent warrior class within society.
During the draft, there was a lot of inequities, with sons of the rich and powerful sheltered from service in the military, especially the part involved in Viet Nam (during my youth), but there was a more democratic quality about having a citizens army, where people did their duty, then moved on to the civilian world.
As for privatizing any part of the military, whether security or food service, etc., the Iraq debacle showed that there was lots of money made by contractors who didn’t have to bid to get the contracts. NOT GOOD!
I also think the country cared more about war when all we the targets of the draft…….now it seems that only those involved care……we need to find a way to make the decision to go to war more of an issue…..
