Closing Thought–08Mar21

This post is for all those that self-worth is linked to their body image.

States are starting to open up regardless of the warnings from the CDC….and that means gyms for all those that body image is far more important than their health…being able to wear a size 2 will not protect you from disaster.

How many regularly go to a gym so that you can keep that svelte figure that so appeals to the self-centered opposite sex?

During the pandemic gyms have suffered from low attendance and are now trying desperately trying to get the easily influenced to return to their daily sweat…..but is that a good idea?

After coronavirus outbreaks at gyms, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned users to be careful—while pointing out a few factors that increase the risk at fitness centers. The virus spread quickly during high-intensity workout classes at gyms in Chicago and Honolulu, the New York Times reports. For one thing, instructors often are shouting during class, the CDC research pointed out. And of course, participants are breathing heavily. The CDC found participants who tested positive might have worked out when they were infectious. “It’s very important for individuals who would like to attend a gym and work out to be cognizant of what the COVID symptoms are, and to be aware that if you are feeling something that looks and feels like a COVID-19 symptom, to stay home as a precaution,” said an epidemiologist who co-wrote the Chicago case study.

At the Hawaii gym, 21 people caught the virus last summer after a cycling instructor who had COVID-19 continued teaching classes for three days, per ABC. The windows and doors were kept closed during class. Of 81 attendees in high-intensity fitness classes in Chicago, 55 came down with the virus. In both places, most participants were not wearing masks, the report said. Exercising outdoors is a better bet, the CDC said. Otherwise, the usual guidance applies: Wear a mask—millions are going to be distributed free—follow social distancing, and stay home if you detect any symptoms. Gyms should make sure they have plenty of ventilation, the CDC said. Limiting capacity at gyms is still wise, but the Chicago classes had just 10 to 15 participants. A trade group encouraging customers to return to gyms during the pandemic said: “There is never zero risk. But clubs are not the primary driver of COVID spread.”

If you feel that sweating is the only way you can feel healthy then please use some commonsense and heed warnings.

Be Well….Be Safe….

QAnon Today

Those alleged inciters of the 06 January breach of the Capitol…..among others…..

But if you spent time crying over the last episode of the Kardashians or too many hours playing Sin City and have NO idea who these slugs of society are then the old professor can help out.

At its heart, QAnon is a wide-ranging, completely unfounded theory that says that President Trump is waging a secret war against elite Satan-worshipping paedophiles in government, business and the media.

QAnon believers have speculated that this fight will lead to a day of reckoning where prominent people such as former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will be arrested and executed.

In October 2017, an anonymous user put a series of posts on the message board 4chan. The user signed off as “Q” and claimed to have a level of US security approval known as “Q clearance”.

These messages became known as “Q drops” or “breadcrumbs”, often written in cryptic language peppered with slogans, pledges and pro-Trump themes.

Since 06 January and the failed uprising from the idiot Right….not much have been herd from the “leader of the pack” of rabid pigs… they are scrambling to explain away their failure on 04 March….

QAnonfollowers have already started to find excuses for why Donald Trump did not replace Joe Biden as US president on 4 March.

If you haven’t been following, conspiracy theorists argued that Trump would return this week due to a baseless claim that the US turned into a corporation, rather than a country, after the passage of the District of Columbia Organic Act in 1871.

Therefore, they believe that any amendment passed after 1871 is illegitimate, including the 20th amendment which moved the inauguration date from 4 March to 20 January.

Of course when nothing happened on Thursday, QAnon followers were left scrambling for an explanation.

Some influencers in the movement had turned away from the 4th March theory early, claiming that the date may have been set up as a “false flag” operation by the US government designed to lure in members.

There is always an excuse, right?

Since they have lost some of their venom the question needs asking about the future of the slime in QAnon….

Everyone agreed that QAnon will likely persist as a major factor in American politics.

If these experts are right, and I suspect they are, the problems driving the QAnon movement will probably get worse before they get better, if they get better at all.

Another question asked is why does QAnon attract so many white evangelicals?

QAnon revolves around the baseless belief that former President Donald Trump is fighting a secret war against a global cabal of Democratic elites who are Satan-worshipping, cannibalistic pedophiles. Much of the lore comes from online posts, called “drops,” written by an anonymous person known as “Q” who claims to have insider knowledge. As the QAnon movement has become more culturally significant — QAnon believers were among those who took part in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol building — surveys have attempted to identify just how many Americans believe in this conspiracy. While that picture is still murky, it’s become increasingly apparent that this movement has attracted a significant number of white evangelical Christians, which could have implications for the movement’s future. Evangelicals, after all, played an important role in shoring up the Tea Party’s growth and influence.

Why QAnon Has Attracted So Many White Evangelicals

So is QAnon a  movement or a religion?

You decide.

“Bloody Sunday” Executive Order

The Pope and the Royals…is there anything more mundane than those two reports?

For me there was some things more important…..

Yesterday, 07 March, we commemorated “Bloody Sunday”…..

For those that are too young or those that d not want to remember this day….I shall help……

On March 7, 1965 around 600 people crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in an attempt to begin the Selma to Montgomery march. State troopers violently attacked the peaceful demonstrators in an attempt to stop the march for voting rights.

After 56 years Biden signs an Executive Order on voting rights……

On the 56th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march, President Biden signed an executive order intended to guarantee voting rights. “Every eligible voter should be able to vote and have that vote counted,” Biden said Sunday in a remote address to the Martin and Coretta King Unity Breakfast, per CNN. The annual event marks the anniversary of the Selma, Ala., march, during which police beat demonstrators demanding the right to vote as they crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. “I also urge Congress to fully restore the Voting Rights Act, named in John Lewis’ honor,” Biden said; the late Georgia congressman was among those beaten on that day. Parts of the act were tossed out by the Supreme Court in 2013. Just last week, the House approved a broad voting rights measure that faces Republican opposition when it comes up in the Senate.

Biden’s move is part of a Democratic response to GOP efforts to limit voter access and control the process, as Republicans repeat claims that the November presidential election was stolen from them. “If you have the best ideas, you have nothing to hide,” Biden said Sunday, per the Washington Post. “Let the people vote.” But the executive order doesn’t directly counter the GOP moves, and it’s not on the scale of the House legislation, per the New York Times. It directs agencies to draw up ways to promote voter registration and participation and help states with voter registration. The website is to be given a makeover to ensure its helpfulness. The executive order does attempt to broaden voting access in the military, as well as for eligible voters who are incarcerated. Still, the idea, an administration official said, is mostly to demonstrate that Biden is doing something about voting rights.

For those interested in the EO…..this is a summary of that signed by Biden…..

This action is in conjunction with HR1, the “For The People Act” which is an attempt to stop all the voter suppression by the GOP….

For those political junkies (like me) here is the full bill that Congress is debating….

This is not perfect but it will go a long way to curbing the cowards that are trying to fix elections in their favor.

looks like Biden is trying to make good on some of the promises he made on the campaign trail…..I await his moves on foreign policy now that he is president (a future post in the works)

The New Covid-19 Relief Bill

Over the weekend the Senate voted to move forward with the relief from the pandemic….sans minimum wage thing……and the good news is the Biden says we normal peasants should expect a check soon….

After the Senate passed his coronavirus relief package Saturday, President Biden told Americans they’ll get their stimulus payments soon. “This plan will get checks out the door starting this month to the Americans that so desperately need the help,” he said in a news conference at the White House. For most taxpayers, the direct payments will amount to $1,400, and will arrive through direct deposit for Americans whose bank information is on file at the IRS, CNBC reports. That money could start to reach people within two weeks of final passage. Other payments will be made by check or debit card and sent by mail, and could take until May to arrive. The measure has to clear the House again but is on track to be signed by Biden on Tuesday.

Besides a check coming soon what else is in this bill?

The Senate approved a sweeping pandemic relief package over Republican opposition on Saturday, moving President Joe Biden closer to a milestone political victory, the AP reports. The bill cleared by a party-line vote of 50-49 after a marathon overnight voting session and now heads back to the House for final passage. Democrats said their “American Rescue Plan” would help the country defeat the virus and nurse the economy back to health. Republicans criticized the $1.9 trillion package as more expensive than necessary. The measure follows five earlier virus bills totaling about $4 trillion that Congress has enacted since last spring. Highlights of the legislation include:

  • Unemployment: Expanded unemployment benefits from the federal government would be extended through Sept. 6 at $300 a week.
  • Checks: The legislation provides a direct payment to most taxpayers of $1,400 for a single taxpayer, or $2,800 for a married couple that files jointly, plus $1,400 per dependent.
  • Government Aid: The legislation would send $350 billion to state and local governments and tribal governments for costs incurred up until the end of 2024.
  • School Aid: The bill calls for about $130 billion in additional help to schools for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • Business Aid: A new program for restaurants and bars hurt by the pandemic would receive $25 billion. The grants provide up to $10 million per company. The bill also provides $7.25 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program.
  • Testing and Vaccines: The bill provides $46 billion to expand fed testing for COVID-19 and to enhance contract tracing capabilities. It also contains about $14 billion to speed up vaccination efforts.
  • Tax Breaks: The bill would increase the child tax credit from $2,000 to $3,000 for every child age 6 to 17 and $3,600 for every child under the age of 6. The bill also significantly expands the Earned Income Tax Credit for 2021 by making it available to people without children.
  • Housing Assistance: The bill provides about $30 billion to help low-income households and the unemployed afford rent and utilities, and to assist the homeless with vouchers and other support. States and tribes would receive an additional $10 billion for homeowners who are struggling with mortgage payments because of the pandemic.

There you have your new stimulus bill and how it may effect you and yours.
