IST Music Review

I admit it I was a country fan in my younger days…the operative word in there is ‘was’……country music today is garbage…..and even the great Loretta Lynn agrees…..she states that “country music is dead”…..I wrote about this last year…..https://lobotero.com/2020/02/08/that-old-time-country-music/ (please read that post to see what she and I are talking about)

One of my favorites was Waylon Jennings….I ran into him back in 1979 in a club owned by country musician Cash Cotton, the”Wildfire”…..and I was bummed when I learn of his death Jennings not Cotton)……my son-in-law turned me onto his son Shooter Jennings….and I agree he has a lot f his dad in him……

The song I first heard by Shooter was “Outlaw You”……

The words tell the story of his Dad…..

I get home from a long day, put on the radio
Lookin’ for some country soul, but I don’t find it, no
It’s a dirt road free for all, some old boys sayin’ they’re outlaws,
They dress the part and they talk the talk
You know they’ve been taught to walk the walk
These boys think they’re tough like they been robbin’ banks
Cause they name drop Johnny Cash and they name drop poor old Hank

Hey pretty boy in the baseball hat
You couldn’t hit country with a baseball bat
Country ain’t just about where you’re at
It’s about bein’ true to what’s inside
You say you’re an outlaw with your perfect boots
That you got from your record label’s image group
Sing another man’s song with a big drum loop
Listen, son, you ain’t got a clue
You can’t buy true, tell you what they should do
They should outlaw you

Let me paint a picture for you, Nashville in ’62
The formula had proven true, they didn’t let nothing new through
When Waylon came to town, they didn’t like his original sound
They tried hard to keep him down, they tried hard to starve him out
But he kept playin’ shows and pressin’ on, chippin’ away, song by song
After years and years of strugglin’ strong, he got his chance and he took it to #1
With “This Time” back in ’74, with his band in the back and 4 on the floor
That one record busted down the door and the record labels had the control no more
Then in ’76 came the Outlaws record, sold the first million in country music ever
Those old boys with long hair and braids stayed true to their sound and freed the slaves
And all these years later, the suits got back their grip
They took the outlaw concept and they re-packaged it
And there’s a million Ol Waylon fans
Singin’ “Don’t y’all think this outlaw bit has gotten way out of hand”

Hey pretty boy in your cowboy hat
You couldn’t hit country with a baseball bat
Country ain’t just about where you’re at
It’s about bein’ true to what’s inside
You say you’re an outlaw with your perfect boots
That you got from your record label’s image group
Sing another man’s song with a big drum loop
Listen, son, you ain’t got a clue
You can’t buy true, tell you what they should do
They should outlaw you
They should outlaw youHey pretty boy in the baseball hat
You couldn’t hit country with a baseball bat
Country ain’t just about where you’re at
It’s about bein’ true to what’s inside
You say you’re an outlaw with your perfect boots
That you got from your record label’s image group
Sing another man’s song with a big drum loop
Listen, man, you ain’t got a clue
You can’t buy true, tell you what they should do
They should outlaw you

Now listen to his song…..

Here is what Waylon thought of the ‘Outlaw’ tag that was used to promote his music….

Hope you enjoyed the tunes…..

I like Shooter for he is keeping his dad’s traditional music going…..

Be Well…..Be Safe….

Sunday Space News

It is that time again…..I report on all the news about space…..news that no one can use……

The world’s largest telescope is underwater…..

Russian scientists on Saturday launched one of the world’s biggest underwater space telescopes to peer deep into the Universe from the pristine waters of Lake Baikal.

The deep underwater telescope, which has been under construction since 2015, is designed to observe neutrinos, the smallest particles currently known.

Dubbed Baikal-GVD, the telescope was submerged to a depth of 750-1,300 meters (2,500-4,300 feet), around four kilometers from the lake’s shore.

Neutrinos are very hard to detect and water is an effective medium for doing so.

The floating observatory consists of strings with spherical glass and stainless steel modules attached to them.

“Take us to warp 4″….a captain aboard the Enterprise….that might sound like a line from a movie but it may not be so far fetched…..

The speed of light is a big constraint when it comes to space exploration. It’s the rate at which light travels in a vacuum, precisely 186,282 miles per second (29,9792,458 metres, or 300,000 kilometers, per second). It’s unchangeable, and as far as we currently know, nothing can exceed that speed. That may seem pretty fast, but compared to the sheer size of space, it’s like trudging through molasses.

For scale, the moon is approximately 238,855 miles (384,400 km) from Earth; It takes about 2.51 seconds for light to make a round trip from the Earth and back. Mars is 3 minutes and 2 seconds for a one-way trip, or six minutes and four seconds both ways. It would take 4.6 hours for light to reach Pluto, and another 4.6 hours to bounce back. Finally, it would take us 4.24 years traveling at the speed of light to reach Alpha Centauri Bb—the closest exoplanet from Earth. That’s traveling at top speed.
