Biden And Community College
Most of us know of the extreme debt that a college education will put an individual into that will take decades to clear that debt.
Newly elected president Biden has a plan that will make a community college free for the two years.
Jill Biden is pushing free access to community college and training programs, saying the schools will be an important part of Biden administration efforts to rebuild the economy.
A longtime community college professor and advocate, the first lady said people struggling to get by during the coronavirus-induced economic slump need access to these schools.
“We have to get this done. And we have to do it now. That’s why we’re going to make sure that everyone has access to free community college and training programs,” Jill Biden said in taped remarks broadcast Tuesday during a virtual legislative summit hosted by the Association of Community College Trustees and the American Association of Community Colleges.

What does this mean?
Biden’s higher education platform on his campaign website refers to community colleges more than 30 times.
In it, he champions making two years of community college tuition-free through a federal-state partnership in which the federal government chips in 75% of the cost.
That includes free tuition for part-time students, adult learners and recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, groups that frequent community colleges but are often left out of state free college programs. A report by the Education Trust found that 14 of the 23 existing free college programs exclude non-traditional students, like older adults and returning students, who did not enroll in college immediately after high school. DACA students can only participate in about half of free college programs.
“Finances continue to be a barrier for our students to access and succeed in colleges, so [community college leaders] are excited about the prospect of basically getting what amounts to greater support for students in the form of reduced tuitions,” says David Baime, senior vice president of government relations and policy analysis at the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
What a Biden Administration Could Mean for Community Colleges
I think that it is a great idea.
I have been writing about this for years…..but my plan would give four years free under certain circumstances.
WE all should be behind this plan 100%…..you want a better nation then by all means champion this plan.
I Read, I Write, You Know
“lego ergo scribo”
Free university (college) is what we had, before a previous government started to charge students a future debt of £20,000+ to study. Once again, that favoured the rich.
Best wishes, Pete.
MY college was basically free but I had to spend two tours in Vietnam for the GI Bill. chuq
Thank you: free full bachelor’s degrees would pay for themselves in the short long term, via better thinking and job skills, particularly paired up with apprenticeship programs.
I’d love to see the details of your plan, Chuq.
