Now here is a word that is getting a workout.
I personally am tired of the redundancy.
A wishful thinking at best.
We now have a new president and the hard work to heal the country will begin.
That is the narrative that the Biden admin is trying to get the country to embrace.
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” program on Sunday, Biden’s incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, made it clear that all those who conspired with Trump to overturn the election, including Republican Senators Josh Hawley (Missouri) and Ted Cruz (Texas), would be welcome at inauguration proceedings on January 20.
Klain told host Jake Tapper that it was “more important” that those who attended the inauguration listen to the “message Joe Biden will have for the country… and that’s going to be the message of moving this country forward. It’s a message of unity. It’s a message of getting things done.”
Klain added, “There are people in both parties we can work with to move this agenda forward.” He said that Republicans might “disagree with us on a lot of things, on tax policy, health care, whatever. But we are going to try to work hard with people in both parties.”
A fine sentiment and is needed…..however I think that it is just that….a sentiment….
Can this nation truly heal from the Trump debacle that some call his presidency?
About 34% of the American people approve of the Trump presidency…that breaks down to about 3 in 10 people support Trump….that does not sound like any unity is on the horizon..
In case your math sucks…..that is about one third of the nation.
Sorry but the wish for unity is an idle hope that is far from reality.
In his inauguration speech Biden used the word “unity” several times….
“The rise of political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism, that we must confront and will defeat.” It “requires so much more than words. It requires the most elusive of all things in democracy: unity. Unity.”
I know many Americans are calling for unity and hoping we can come together in a rainbow and unicorn moment….it ain’t happening people!
All the division that Trump fed in this country is still there. About 47% of American still worship the ground he walks on….do you think they will have a change of heart?
I do not!
His presidential pardons have released the people that will be most influential to him in his future endeavors….whatever those will be.
Take Congress…he still has Trump loyalists still in place to do his bidding.
I mean even the GOP is split on Trump….if Trump makes good on his mode of revenge the formation a “Patriots Party” the GOP could be destroyed from within.
I have wanted to see the Republicans find a new path but I do not think the Trump Road is the way to go….although the party has been heading in the Trump direction since 1980.
Unity is just another word for nothing else to use.
