Minneapolis is the latest American city to suffer from the death of a black man at the hands of the police and it has resulted in protests and now riots….and of curse Donald the Orange has done what he does best…..makes the matter worse……

The governor of Minnesota on Thursday activated the National Guard, and 500 soldiers will respond to Minneapolis, which has seen protests every night since Tuesday over the Monday death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, after a white cop kneeled on his neck. Also Thursday, the mayor of Minneapolis declared a state of emergency, KSTP reports. Looting, violence, smashed windows, and fires were widespread, and Fox 9 reports that after the Third Precinct police station started burning, the city warned that if gas lines had been cut the building could explode. CBS Minnesota reports protesters broke in and took over the building late Thursday.

Meanwhile, in Washington, President Trump—who earlier declared justice would be served in Floyd’s death—on Thursday referred to the Minneapolis protesters as “thugs,” the Raw Story reports. “I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right,” Trump tweeted, adding, “These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”

The presidential words will do NOTHING yo make this situation better or at least calmer……

My thought on the riots.

I am not opposed to civil disobedience….but there is a time for violence……this situation needs the focus to be on the police that murdered this man and not on the riots from the anger.

I understand the anger and the frustration because there will most likely be little to no justice for the death….but the calm protests are overshadowed by the violence…the media needs the riots to make the conversation for them….a calm and peaceful protest is only good for a 30 second spot….while the violence can be analyzed for many many day and many spots.

This system of “justice” needs to be changed….and until we rid the world of Trump in the next election it is just wishful thinking.

Please, read this post. If you haven’t seen this, here’s part of this tweet … “These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. ” … I so loathe the FIDIOT!!

  2. I don’t agree with the looting. That criminalises the protests, and does not honour the memory of the man killed by the poice.
Anyone looting deserves all they get, IMO.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Nice thoughts…..but what did India and Blacks get from their non-violent protests? What will change here? I do not agree with the looting it makes them the story and not the crime that started the action. chuq

      1. I agree with that point to an extent. Obviously we don’t want the expression of outrage to dwarf the problem at hand.

Maybe I am being too idealistic. Where does it end? If people continue to riot, the government will just continue to use force. I don’t think the utility of using riot tactics are going work in this instance.

Especially when most of the rhetoric coming from the White House has been “play hardball”. Is a highly imprudent strategy.

Even if I can’t fix anything, I would rather still try to do the right thing. I want to urge others to not put aside their rage. But to channel it into constructive avenues.

      2. I can you from my days as a protester that is is hard to curb rage when your opponent is beating and killing your friends…..and foolish rhetoric just makes it worse. chuq

  3. I get the righteous outrage over GF’s deaLth. But as a resident of St Paul employed in Mpls I don’t follow this logic after massive peaceful protests:
Antiffa&Blm&NBPanther directing rage to destroy 3rd Precinct, Lake&Hennepin, Seward, Longfellow, Highland, Como, Midtown, & Downtown Mpls?
Over 300 small neighborhood shops destroyed in 3days.
Inviting Mayor Frey to speak, then shouting him down when he refused to refund MPD.
Many protesters have made a logical jump, IMO, that the solution to a bad incident is dismantling ALL police, and refusing to recognize any good they do.
We have at least a half million residents from: E Africa, W Africa, Muddle East, SE Asia, who fled tragedy in their homeland and found a new life here. A good life. This is one of the most generous places on the planet to folks in need. I resist the broadbrush by the revolutionary protesters, not the peaceful and pissed ones, to redefine our home as hostile hunting grounds of AAmales. It’s just not.
A few facts from MN history:
    1st volunteers in Civil War
1st to support Humphrey and FDR’S civil rights reforms in the 1940’s. (20 yrs before MLK and Johnson)
Known on the street as “Moneyapolis” because there is so much public and private social safety net.
My wife and I met running a homeless shelter for teens.
S Mpls has the highest per capita charities of any neighborhood in the US.
Why is this exact neighborhood being destroyed?

    1. THanx for the update on Mnplis…but this whole movement is more than just one city…..and none of this would be happening if reform had been done years ago….chuq
