Closing Thought–13Aug18

It seems that Russia still has designs on Georgia (the country not the state) even after their 2008 mini war……a decade on…..

……and since their troops are still present the US is making demands……

In comments on Tuesday, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert called on Russia to withdraw its military entirely from the two breakaway Republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The US does not recognize the regions’ independence.

The comments come 10 years after the brief Russo-Georgian War, during which Georgia attempted to attack South Ossetia, ended up fighting Russian troops therein, and fairly quickly lost. In the aftermath, Russia recognized the independence of both regions.

The regions are a long-term problem for Georgia, which has ambitions for joining NATO. NATO clearly would never accept anyone as a member state who has existing territorial disputes with Russia, and accuses Russia of occupying parts of their territory, since this would mean an immediate NATO-Russia war.

The State Department insists they support Georgia’s “territorial integrity” as including those regions, and to the extent that continues, it also follows that Georgia will never be able to advance toward accession into NATO.

Demand?  A country that has troops in 177 countries stationed on about 800 “bases” should not be making such demands…..maybe the US should lead by example not some infantile bullying.

Just a thought.

The VA Needs Saving!

Every American veteran should be concerned in what is happening to the institution that tasked with their care…..

The institution that is there to aid all veterans with their health and entitlements (and yes if one uses the VA then they are using entitlements) and in years past there has been scandal after scandal…..but it soldier on….and then we elected a dude who was always harping about Vets and behind the scenes is screwing them……

“On any veterans issue, the first person the president calls is Ike,” says a former administration official. If the name Ike doesn’t ring a bell, at least in relation to Veterans Affairs, that’s appropriate. A ProPublica expose by Isaac Arnsdorf explains he’s “reclusive” Marvel Entertainment chairman Ike Perlmutter, one third of “a previously unknown triumvirate” that has clandestinely been exerting influence over the VA—never mind that none of them have served in the military or worked in government. Palm Beach doctor Bruce Moskowitz and lawyer Marc Sherman round out the trio, which is referred to within the VA as “the Mar-a-Lago Crowd,” as that location serves as their informal HQ. Arnsdorf ran into some walls on the interviewing front: the men, a VA rep, and a White House spokeswoman declined to answer questions.

His reporting is therefore based on hundreds of documents he got using the Freedom of Information Act and interviews with former administration officials. The story he has pieced together is one of significant power: The men have the president’s ear and influence over personnel, with those who “were at odds with the Mar-A-Lago crowd,” including those in a slew of top positions (secretary, deputy secretary, chief of staff, director of electronic health records modernization), “pushed out or passed over.” Arnsdorf alleges that decisions have to be run by them, officials fly to consult with them on taxpayers’ dime, and initiatives pushed by the men in some cases have benefited their own interests. Read the full piece for much more on an “arrangement … without parallel in modern presidential history.”

This does not surprise me at all……as usual he, Dear Leader, was all talk and action is questionable where the veterans are concerned…….once again someone that is big talk that has never served…there ought to be a law!

Time for veterans to take control of their benefits (watch for a Veterans Day march)…..something on the line of the Bonus Army from the past….(dammit Google it!)

It’s Russia

This is a re-blog from my opinion for those visitors that maay not know of Gulf South Free Press….please take some time to look around and enjoy….chuq

Gulf South Free Press

All the hoopla when Our Dear Leader met with Vlad the Putin in Helsinki awhile ago just made me smile.

As an old radical I would from time to time try and let the people in my area know what was going on in Russia, USSR then, as far as social issues were…well I was attacked on multiple sides for saying anything positive about Russia….the old “Love it or Leave it” crowd.

By the way that crowd is the very same crowd that see nothing bad about Russia or its messing with our election…..the very same crowd….did you get that?  The very same people that condemned me for positive writing about Russia are the very same people that are condemning me for saying anything bad about them now.

Before Russia were godless commies…now they are a country of god fearing white people….is that the difference?  Are the Russians now…

“Arab” NATO–Again

I see that the pressure keeps up on an idea that Dear Leader is championing…an Arab NATO…..(I tire of all this stupid)…I have given some thoughts on this stupid counter-productive proposal…..

Of course we have those individuals like the Washington Times that has their opinion also……

The Trump administration is quietly pushing ahead with a plan for a new security and political alliance with six Gulf Arab states, Egypt and Jordan, in part to counter Iran’s expansion in the Middle East. The plan, which some in the White House and Middle East are calling an “Arab NATO” of Sunni Muslim allies can clearly be seen as one way to counter expansionism by Shi’ite Iran and referred to as the Middle East Strategic Alliance (MESA).

At a time when many are rethinking the utility of alliances such as NATO, this one could be a highly useful in dealing with the very real and immediate problems posed by Iran. Hopefully, it will be a subject for a summit provisionally scheduled for Washington in October.

I say SCREW Israel!  After their recent vote making anyone not a Jew a second class citizen should eliminate them from participating in anything to do with the Middle East.

Bloomberg thinks they have a better idea…….

The White House has indicated President Trump will convene leaders of the Gulf Arab countries for a mid-October summit in Washington, to encourage them to collaborate and stiffen their resolve in the escalating struggle with Iran. That’s a good idea, and overdue.

Encouraging cooperation is one thing, but leading a formal Arab coalition is quite another. U.S. officials talk of creating an “Arab NATO.” This would attach American power and prestige to a project with little chance of success. U.S. interests and the fight against Iran will be best served if Trump achieves a more modest goal — persuading the Arab states to stop fighting each other.

Again let me state…this idea is worthless and useless….there is already an organization in place that should be handling these situations in the Middle East… is called the Arab League.

All this maneuvering is to protect Israel nothing more….the policies by the Arab states should be handled by Arabs…..confronting Israel or that other dire threat Iran should fall on the shoulders of all the Arab states not the select few that have given Trump a blow job.
