Closing Thought–01Mar18

Closing thought today is early….I have two doctors to see today and they are terrible at being prompt…….hopefully I can get back to normal soon…thanx for bearing with me.

We all read about the future and the use of AI…..but could terrorists make use of this science to attack targets here in the “Free World”?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is ripe for exploitation by criminal gangs and terrorists, a stark new report has claimed with experts calling for restrictions to be introduced immediately — before it is too late.

Governments could already be plotting to make use of brand new tech, including drones adapted into missiles, fake videos and auto-hacking tools, the Malicious Use of Artificial Intelligence report warns.

Within five years AI could “go rogue” and be utilized by criminals. Lifelike videos and speech impersonation could be used to target individuals, while drones could be launched to physically attack a person, the report says.

Oh great….not only will AI be used to replace us mere workers but now there is the possibility that terrorists will use it to attack the civilized world.

Fake News And World War Two

There has been a bunch of crap these days about so-called “fake news”…..this technique is nothing new….Hell fake news has been used since the dawn of time just it makes a much better slogan these days than in the past……it use to be called “propaganda”…..

But as long as we are talking about fake news let’s talk about its use in World War Two.

And yes it was used extensively but both sides during the war and there was even a time that it was used to get the US to commit to the war in Europe…..

In the spring of 1940, British Prime Minister Winston S. Churchill was certain of one thing for his nation caught up in a fight to the death with Nazi Germany: Without American support his nation might not survive. But the vast majority of Americans—better than 80 percent by some polls—opposed joining the fight to stop Hitler. Many were even against sending any munitions, ships or weapons to the United Kingdom at all. To save his country, Churchill had not only to battle the Nazis in Europe, he had to win the war for public opinion among Americans. He knew just the man for the job.

In May 1940, as defeated British forces were being pushed off the European continent at Dunkirk, Churchill dispatched a soft-spoken, forty-three-year-old Canadian multimillionaire entrepreneur to the United States. William Stephenson traveled under false diplomatic passport. MI6—the British secret intelligence service—directed Stephenson to establish himself as a liaison to American intelligence. He went to the White House where the President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, remained deeply concerned about the fate of Great Britain. To Stephenson’s dismay, he learned that the U.S. government had no coordinated central command for spies and counterintelligence. Stephenson would have to create one on London’s behalf in America. Before long, Britain’s lone secret agent in the Americas built a vast clandestine propaganda, counterintelligence, and espionage empire.

I love history and I do like to share it with my readers….it is my hope that my readers learn something from these posts…..but then I may be asking for too much.

A True “America First” Policy

Our last election brought a new way of thinking to the people…the America First thought…..well it is not all that new but let’s say it was resurrected…..it is where everything we do and say puts the needs of America first….that’s the promise.

If we truly want to Make “America First” then maybe putting an end to all these wars and our continuous intervention…..

If the intent of President Trump’s “America first” foreign policy is to “put the interests of the American people and American security above all else,” events currently playing out in Syria expose it as a failed policy. While the goal of defending American citizens and interests from the Islamic State (ISIS) has always been entirely valid, the way Washington has pursued that objective has diminished American security, not preserved it.

On the surface it may appear to have been a smart move: to combat ISIS, the United States would support the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) in their drive to retake Mosul and support the predominantly Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to capture ISIS’ stronghold of Raqqa. But it shouldn’t have taken much analysis to see the plan had little chance of long-term success for America.

I agree that we should end these wars……these profitable wars …..but this America First movement is nothing more than a slogan and not something that this president will aspire to accomplish.

America First was a failed movement in the 1930’s and 40’s….so far I have seen nothing that is a true America First foreign policy……it has been the same policies with minor additions as the policies from all other presidents…granted it is still early in the Trump presidency and possibly things will change but sadly it does not appear to be changing.
