Closing Thought–10Nov17

We all have read about the horrific attack last week in the church in Texas…..20+ killed including seniors and children….and as usual the conversation was all about the ease at which guns are available in this country.

But here is another conversation that most have not heard or seen…….the blame game.

There are some like that whack case Alex Jones that is blaming the anti-fascist movement for the carnage….the antifa.

Far-right websites and conspiracy theorists have promoted conspiracy theories alleging a mass shooting suspect was an anti-fascist activist in the wake of a deadly attack that left 26 people dead in a Texas church.

Far-right forums and websites wasted little time ascribing the blame to anti-fascists (also known as Antifa), sharing a doctored image of the suspected shooter holding up a flag that read “anti-fascist action”.

Alex Jones, who heads the InfoWars conspiracy website, tweeted a video clip from his show on Wednesday in which he alleged Kelley was linked to Antifa. Jones described the alleged assailant as “an atheist [paedophile] obsessed with death” who “matches classic Antifa profile”.

These alt-Right Trump boot lickers are a bit much…….Trump can do no wrong…..when they should be telling the world that he can do NO right.

If you believe that crap then I have a bridge in Brooklyn I will sell you…..dirt cheap.

Time for me to back out and start my Veterans Day celebration…..please take a moment out of your weekend to remember all those Americans who died in service to their country…..thanx…..chuq

Psst! Little Girl Step Into My Office

Most of us Southerns know of Roy Moore and his 10 commandments debacle at the Alabama Supreme Court and his antics afterwards about LGBT issues.  He has been running to replace Sessions as the senator from the great state of Alabama and the scary part is he has a good chance of winning that race……that is until the latest news came out about his early life…..

The latest high-profile figure accused of sexual misconduct is a politician who has staked his career on morality. The Washington Post is out with a detailed report about Alabama’s Roy Moore, the state’s former supreme court justice who is now running for the US Senate. A woman who is now 53 says Moore initiated a sexual encounter with her when she was just 14 and he was a 32-year-old assistant district attorney. Leigh Corfman says that they did not have intercourse, but that Moore drove her to his home, stripped down to his underwear, removed her pants and shirt, and touched her through her bra and underpants. She says that when he began guiding her hand toward his underwear, she recoiled, got dressed, and asked to leave, at which point he drove her home. Moore categorically denies the allegations as “fake news” drummed up by Democrats.

The Post also talks to three other women who say that Moore asked them out on dates, sometimes successfully, when they were between the ages of 16 and 18 and he was in his early 30s and still single. The account given by Corfman is the only one that advances beyond kissing. “I wasn’t ready for that,” Corfman says of Moore’s attempt to guide her hand. “I had never put my hand on a man’s penis, much less an erect one.” She says she first met Moore outside a courtroom, when he approached her and her mother and offered to sit with Corfman while her mom went inside for a custody hearing. In his later career, Moore would twice be removed from his chief justice post for taking stands against gay marriage and his refusal to remove a 10 Commandments plaque. Read the full Post investigation, based on interviews with more than 30 people, here.

I always thought he was a pervert….but now I am more certain than ever.

The cowboy hat wearing gun toting son of a gun has more problems….the politicians in DC are starting to come out against this toad…..

Roy Moore was accused of initiating a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32 in a Washington Post report published Thursday. Three other women say he asked them out on dates while they were between 16 and 18 years old and he was in his 30s. Now Republican senators are calling for the Senate hopeful from Alabama to drop out of the race—with one big caveat. “If these allegations are true, he must step aside,” the Hill quotes Sen. Mitch McConnell as saying in a statement. “If these allegations are found to be true, Roy Moore must drop out of the Alabama special Senate election,” Sen. Cory Gardner added.

I agree….time for this pervert get on his high horse and get the f*ck out of Dodge while he can……

But wait there is someone who is defending this person and it is the scum of the earth…….Bannon……

Minutes before the Washington Post on Thursday published a bombshell report detailing allegations by a woman who claims Republican Senate nominee Roy Moore sexually assaulted her when she was 14, the Steve Bannon-directed outlet Breitbart News ran a story that spotlighted Moore’s denials of the claims against him and attempted to “undermine the Post‘s credibility.”

“The story detailed some of the allegations, but with a distinct twist,” notes Business Insider‘s Maxwell Tani. “Breitbart included five paragraphs of denials from Moore, which were placed above many of the details of the allegations.”

Headlined “After Endorsing Democrat in Alabama, Bezos’s Washington Post Plans to Hit Roy Moore with Allegations of Inappropriate Relations with Teenagers; Judge Claims Smear Campaign,” Breitbart‘s piece more closely resembles a “press release” for Moore than a news story, argued the Washington Post‘s Aaron Blake.

That should not be a surprise after all he, Bannon, is defending Trump even after the “Access Hollywood” tape was made public……the one where Trump talks about grabbing women by their hoo-hoo and all…..

Time for Moore to just ride off into the sunset on his high horse and disappear from the American collective memory……we have enough perverts in Washington….we do not need another.

Sugar Coated China

Recently one of my blogging buddies did a post about the effects of China on the US and I guess this is just an extension to that post…..

While Fearless Leader is in China talking out of the other side of his face after months of calling China everything but a good bunch of people…..his visit is actually accomplishing nothing of substance- but he gets to see parades and stuff that delights his fancy.

US President Donald Trump is spending nearly two weeks in Asia, visiting Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines. Putting China at the center of the trip makes sense, because it constitutes the most important stop in both strategic and economic terms.

North Korea will dominate much of the conversation when Trump is in China, in large part because he is counting on Chinese leaders to solve the North Korea problem for the United States. This approach is understandable, because the bulk of North Korea’s trade transits Chinese territory, and China could exert enormous pressure on the North if it so chose.

But Trump needs to sit and take a realistic look at China and its policies worldwide…….apparently he does not have time for such trivia bullshit as diplomacy.  If he would take the time to listen to the people that follow China then he might learn something that could be useful…….but that might cut into his Twitter time….

Five years ago, the consensus was that China, with its ballooning middle class, would need to undertake painful, liberalizing political reforms lest its state capitalist system eventually collapse. Today, it looks like China’s political and economic system is better positioned for the future than those of its major Western rivals — as I argued in a longer essay for TIME this week. These five facts help explain why:

But let’s look down the road a bit……what about in say 2025?

A top U.S. military official has said that the U.S. needs to increase its military budget, already the largest in the world, to keep an “advantage” over China.

A top U.S. military official, General Joseph Dunford, said on Tuesday that China is going to be the U.S.’s supposed “greatest threat” in several years, surpassing Russia, CNN reported.

“I think China probably poses the greatest threat to our nation by about 2025,” General Dunford said while speaking to a U.S. Senate committee, highlighting the “economic situation.”

Of course Trump is gonna promise that usual promise bring those jobs back to America and make the American worker the most prolific worker when he does…….it is all so much BS…..

President Trump is well into his swing through Asia. And things have gotten a little awkward, as he’s gone after China and Japan for their imbalanced trade relationships with America.

Unfortunately, while Trump is right to question the reigning globalized trade order, he has neither the discipline nor the know-how to build a workable alternative.

Take the two economic powerhouses Trump is visiting during his trip. China and Japan boast the biggest and the second-biggest trade deficit with the U.S., respectively. In 2016, China exported $347 billion more to America than it imported, and Japan exported $68.8 billion more.

As I have said all this is so much manure spread by our Fearless Leader……..

10 Most Important Assassinations

Today I return to giving my readers a history lesson…..(heavy sighs and eye rolls notwithstanding)….learn something it is not that painful….

In the course of world affairs there are always assassinations to end a rule, make a point, for just the Hell of it……but let us look at the 10 most important assassinations in history……

Ever since the Moabite King Eglon was stabbed to death on his throne in 1200 BCE (Judges 3:12-30)—and probably long before that—political leaders have been killed for any number of reasons. Usually they are murdered because they are deemed a threat by others in authority, or because of some controversial political stand they have taken, but sometimes the rationale can be as simple as the quest for revenge or the desire by the assassin to be famous. In any case, usually these murders are but minor footnotes in history, but occasionally they can and have had a profound impact on not only a nation, but on history itself. So who were these men—and a few woman—whose deaths have had such immense repercussions?

Can you think of any others that may need to be added?

That did not hurt now did it?

The Age Of Identity Politics

It appears that we have entered into the age of identity politics.  The “center” that we so much about in the past has collapsed and disappeared.

With the end of centrism, as it has been called, the extremes of Left and Right have taken the place of civil discourse.

A pretty good article about this collapse appeared in the American Conservative…..

I do not always agree with there ideas but they have some good points from some good thinkers…….

Sometimes it seems to me that identity politics and the collapse of the political center are pushing us all towards a prison-gang mentality, in the sense that you may not want to join up with the gangsters of your own tribe (white, black, Latino), but you do to protect yourself from the attacks of the other tribes.

Do I want to align with the Trump Republicans? Most assuredly I do not. Yet rising  militancy on the left — campuses being the vanguard — and the inability of liberal centrists to stand up to it, frightens white, male, heterosexual, religiously conservative me for the future. I look at the Democratic Party and see a party that regards people like me as American kulaks, as the class enemy to be crushed for the sake of justice and the final defeat of “white supremacy.” Yes, I’m being deliberately hyperbolic here, but that’s their basic approach. They may couch it in all kinds of arguments designed to conceal what they’re doing, but they are only deceiving themselves; it is clear to the rest of us what’s going on.

AS long as I am writing about “centrism”…..I found another article about this political situation……

Centrism is a decidedly wimpy word, but it is a powerful political idea. Over the last few weeks, many commentators and critics have compelled me to contemplate centrism more carefully. Is centrism a kind of “average” of extremes: They want single-payer insurance; the other side wants free market insurance; centrists want some unique hybrid? What then when the extreme position is the correct one? Does the centrist defy the truth simply to mold the world to his or her obsessions with compromise? As I’ve contemplated these important questions, I’ve begun to believe that the truly unique and important thing about centrism is its insistence on debate, and its uneasiness with prepackaged dogmas and identity narratives. Centrism is a flexible political position, but it is inflexible in its urging of open inquiry and spirited discourse.

This new age of division will not do anything good for the country…..we already have too much partisan dickering and this will just add to the problems with no solutions.

Some even see the end of “liberalism”…..that should make some of Trump’s bootlickers in society extremely happy if it were true……..there are some that predict the end……

It’s not that I’m a Trump supporter. It’s just that you, my friend, are actively undermining the very foundations of everything you purport to defend.”

Over the past ten months, that conflicted sentiment has led me into countless debates with people much more implacably opposed to the President than I am. I live in Washington, DC. We voted for Hillary Clinton by an overwhelming 90.9 percent. Most of the people I end up arguing with are my friends and colleagues.

I do not agree that liberalism is ending or being destroyed…..I feel that it is going through a transition in this age of populism and will return as strong as it has been in the past.

Note:  Yet again I would like to apologize for the urls but since WP saw best to eliminate the “Press This” button I am resorting to what you see here….again my apologies.  chuq

Our Man In China

Trump scooted off the Korean Peninsula and is now in China….he was met with a lavish “hello” ceremony….lots of color, pomp and ceremony….all the things he likes because it is all about him coming to China…..

China pulled out all the stops for President Trump’s airport arrival in Beijing: honor guard, marching band, jumping children. The ceremony accompanying Trump’s arrival Wednesday afternoon was elaborate even by China’s lavish standards. Heads of state are usually given a low-key reception at the airport, with the real pomp and circumstance reserved for his or her arrival at the Great Hall of the People in the center of Beijing. As they exited Air Force One, Trump and first lady Melania Trump were met by Chinese and American dignitaries, soldiers standing stiffly at attention, a band playing martial music, and smartly attired children waving miniature Chinese and American flags while chanting, “Welcome, welcome.”

The president and first lady appeared pleased, smiling and accepting flower bouquets, with Trump at one point throwing his arms open and appearing to exclaim, “Wow,” the AP reports. During his two-day visit, Trump is expected to discuss issues including trade, the South China Sea, and North Korea with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump is expected to demand that China curtail its dealings with Pyongyang and expel North Korean workers. One uncertainty for Trump: whether he will be able to use Twitter in China, which has banned the social media platform.

OMG!  A day without Twitter!  What will he do?

China has become a major power in the world as well as the US number trading partner….what will Fearless Leader have to say to the Chinese that he has not already said?

After all his strong rhetoric about China and its trade policies his tune is a bit different when he is face to face with the Chinese…….

President Trump has previously expressed being “disappointed” at China for “taking advantage” of the US with “one-sided” trade, as well as called the country a “currency manipulator.” But speaking in Beijing on Thursday, he appeared to admire any clever exploitation of the US. “I don’t blame China,” he said in a speech to business leaders after a two-hour sit-down with President Xi Jinping. “After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for benefit of their citizens? I give China great credit.” Instead of pointing the finger at his host nation, Trump blamed his own predecessors “for allowing this trade deficit to take place and to grow.” Trump also touted the “great chemistry” he says he shares with Xi and said he thinks the two countries will do “tremendous things,” per the Washington Post.

Trump said he mentioned the “chronic imbalance” of the nations’ trade status to Xi, and the leaders announced they’d worked out $250 billion in various trade deals, which China’s commerce minister called a “miracle,” per Reuters. Details weren’t offered, and CNN notes that many agreements were already in progress when Trump took office. Xi, for his part, was more “reserved,” per the Post, simply talking about a “new starting point” for the two nations and a “win-win” relationship while avoiding discussing his personal relationship with Trump. Trump and Xi didn’t field questions during their joint appearance; CNN notes that Trump’s three immediate predecessors in the White House had all convinced Chinese leaders on their own first state visits there to take questions. “It was at the Chinese insistence there were no questions today,” press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

To me that is the coward’s way out……one thing in the US and another when face to face with the Chinese….it is tacky at best.

Now on to Vietnam and meetings…….
