And the count continues—–4 days to go……
This election cycle has been extremely negative….there has been accusations slung from both sides…..voters have embraced the possibility of taking rights away from a certain group and even embraced some hits to the Constitution……Americans have been given a hate for people they do not know…….
What is it about this election like so many others that makes Americans cling to the negativity?
Glad you asked……Brain responds more strongly to information about unfavourably portrayed groups, offering clues as to how prejudice emerges and spreads, research shows
The human brain is predisposed to learn negative stereotypes, according to research that offers clues as to how prejudice emerges and spreads through society.
The study found that the brain responds more strongly to information about groups who are portrayed unfavourably, adding weight to the view that the negative depiction of ethnic or religious minorities in the media can fuel racial bias.

2016 has been a election based on dog whistles, slogans, taglines and lies…..the most negative in decades…..and we will pick a president based on this…..God help us!
Essentially, we’re a society of self-reinforcing negativity and have become our own enemies.
So very true….kinda pathetic, huh?
The Earthian creature’s nature is actually not a natural event, therefore difficult to understand. Those who try to explain it fail because they themselves are part of the problem inherent to the creature. One of the most famous experiments done to demonstrate how “defective” an Earthian’s programming is, was performed over time by Dr. Stanley Milgram. Anyone who isn’t familiar with his findings needs a serious refresher. “Man” has a proclivity to do evil. We know this. We deny it, of course, since it serves the Matrix ruling forces best if we think of ourselves as essentially “good” thus blaming others for problems of evil. It’s always others. Clinton and Trump ARE America. Bash them, you bash yourselves. Things got to where they are in America because the evil that power entity has been spreading throughout the planet and which the “Hegemon” residents for a time profited from, has reached its peak and as always, only has one place left to turn on: the home turf. Milgram’s experiment demonstrates that by far, the vast majority of Earthians will obey authority. Whatever it says, or does, authority is right and deserving of obedience. Americans are a very obedient lot. They’ve watched the horrors done by their corporations, banksters and military world-wide over decades and done nothing or cheered it all on. Millions dead in Iraq and the rest of the Middle East and on-going: for what? For nothing that could even in some small way benefit Americans. They are treated to horrible executions of unarmed, helpless black people by their police and do nothing. They believe whatever their authorities tell them to believe. They do not have the will to counter the evil done in their name because until now their obedience has meant a cheap ride on the world’s resources and labour, and cheap entertainment. “We came, we saw, he died” has been US foreign policy since the nation’s inception. History is clear on that point. But it’s always been legitimized because it’s always been the fault of those others, primarily for not being rich, white, Christian and democratic. So now, in these last days of the Evil Empire, Americans are being treated to a bit of reality: Clinton/Trump as mirror images of themselves, reality in authority. What Americans have represented to the planet over the last century is what Clinton/Trump represent to the American people. Check out the Stanley Milgram experiment. And let me add this: while American is in the limelight at the moment as its empire is exposed for the horror it always was, Americans are no worse than any other Earthians. It isn’t groups, nations, races, genders, ages, religion or political systems that are mentally defective, it’s the entire species. Ask me if that can be fixed, and think of it as not being a rhetorical question.
You and gigoid think a lot alike….
*smile*
Close enough; I agree it’s our nature where the problem begins. To answer the ending query, it IS fixable, but, so far, only individually, randomly, and far too infrequently to make a difference in the overall situation in society/culture. Hard to say if there is any way to induce illumination in minds that are unused to perceiving the light…. But, it is correct that our cultural institutions, i.e., money, nations, religions, etc. are only tools in the hands of those who practice self-interest over comhair…. They serve as a means of separating people, teaching them habits of surrender and dependency, instead of encouraging behaviors beneficial to the group.
gigoid, the dubious
2016 hasn’t been much more negative than 2000. And I don’t remember the intensity of the campaigns of Clinton and Obama being all that positive in 2008 either.
Negativity has slowly gained a place in our politics since the beginning…Hell even Jefferson was attacked hard…..the 24 hr news cycle makes it more important now.
This is true!
Yes, I do believe the human brain is predisposed to react to negative images. Thus it is those who understand how to negatively control the fight-or-flight response of a human’s brain who are the truly ruthless of our society.
True that
