Slowly We Turn

Yesterday was Purple Heart Day, an unofficial holiday, and hardly any of the massive flag wavers even noticed…..typical!

https://lobotero.com/2016/08/07/purple-heart-day/

Step by step….inch by inch….we are returning to a full compliment of US troops in Iraq…..we are returning combat troops to “assist” the Iraqi army handle the day against ISIS….recently word came down that as many as 750 American troops would be returning to Iraq……and if you thought that was the end of the build-up…..think again!

Adding to the ever-growing number of US ground troops in the “no boots on the ground” war in Iraq, Army officials announced yet another significant deployment from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, from which some 400 troops will be sent to Qayara, just south of Mosul.

The idea is that the troops will be part of the logistics effort to prop up the Iraqi military in Nineveh Province, with an eye toward them eventually attacking Mosul, though there is no timeline for when such an offensive will begin, and Pentagon officials have gone on record doubting Iraq’s military is anywhere near ready for such an attack.

Officials at Fort Campbell say the troops were part of a “Strike Ready Force” which had been pre-trained and prepared to go to Iraq “at a moment’s notice,” suggesting that the continued escalation of the US ground force in Iraq is being planned well ahead of actually announced deployments.

Last month, President Obama raised the “cap” on the number of ground troops in Iraq to 4,647. This cap has become something of a running joke, as the Pentagon has repeatedly admitted to having well more troops than that. Most recent estimates have over 6,000 US ground troops in Iraq already, before this new deployment. The Pentagon has argued that only “permanent” troops count toward the cap, and that open-ended deployments that aren’t officially labeled permanent let them send more or less unlimited troops into Iraq without “violating the cap.”

Most Americans could care less since only about 1% of population is even effected by a troop deployment….instead the idiots worry about something that has not happened and may well never happen…..

I worry that this factor is far from over and that this will be a continuing thing until we are once again ass deep in a situation that we created and have NO idea how to solve…..

I Enjoy The Irony

I am enjoying the fact that after 20 years to bashing by the GOP Clinton is gaining support from the neocons……kinda reminds me of the days when Dems flocked to the side of Reagan in the 80’s.

Some people are surprised at the support that she is getting from the war hawks….different parties and all that……well I wish I could say I was surprised but unfortunate I am not…..it makes perfect sense….after all she and her hubby Bubba have been hawks from day one in the White house.

But there are still some that are surprised……

Democrats have become the party of bare-knuckled, full-throated American Exceptionalism. That transformation was announced with a vein-popping zeal by retired general and wannabe motivation screamer John Allen at the Democratic convention in the City of Brotherly Love.

Bill Kristol is downright despondent after his failed search for an alternative to Donald Trump. Max Boot is indignant about his “stupid” party’s willingness to ride a bragging bull into a delicate China policy shop. And the leading light of the first family of military interventionism — Robert Kagan — is actually lining up Neoconservatives behind the Democratic nominee for president of the United States.

I found another article this time in The American Thinker, not a site I regular read, along these lines only with a bit of a slant to it……

Donald Trump has had an uphill battle since the day, over a year ago, when he announced his candidacy for the Republican Party presidential nomination. Against long odds and endless naysayers in the media and in his own party, he secured the party nomination for president and in the process received more primary votes than any other previous Republican candidate. Ever. Sharing votes with 16 other primary candidates.

Yemen: Some Things Never Change

For a year now the Saudis have been bombing Yemen relentlessly….and finally a bit of sanity raised is shy head and the warring factions decided to try and work of their differences with peace talks….I applauded the effort since the only suffering from this endless air attacks are the civilians…..mostly children…but after a month or so of talks not much could be agreed upon and…….

Presumably, the search for a solution to end the Yemen war has ended with the balanced proposal put forward by the United Nations Special Envoy to the Yemeni crisis. But alas, while Yemen’s legitimate government of President Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi accepted the proposal, the Houthi rebels and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh immediately rejected it.

The proposal stated that the rebels have to pull out of Sanaa, the capital, and engage in talks for 45 days after their withdrawal. Furthermore, the plan requires the rebels to hand over their heavy weaponry.

Just prior to the announcement of the peace proposal, the Houthi-Saleh front held a press conference during which they inaugurated their joint Presidential Council to govern the country. The assumption that the UN proposal came as a reaction to the Presidential Council is not accurate. The opposite is correct, as in fact a draft of the UN proposal, put forward by UN Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, had already been sent to the two sides as earlier in the talks hosted by Kuwait.

Sadly it is official….the talks have failed and what was the response of the Saudis?

The United Nations has announced a month-long halt to the Kuwait-based peace talks for Yemen, saying that both sides have committed to return to the talks in a month’s time, but leaving open the question of why they are taking an entire month off, when the talks haven’t achieved anything yet.

Pro-Saudi forces are conducting a major new offensive this weekend, though whether the offensive was launched after the talks were paused or just before is unclear. The UN issued a statement criticizing the Houthis for seating a new leadership council, but did not mention the new offensive.

If they are going to return in a month for more talks why would the Saudis attack immediately after the announcement of the suspended talks?

Is it peace they seek or an advantage in the conflict?

Admit Jimmy Carter Was Right

For decades Jimmy Carter has been the whipping post of the nose picking Right…..but his admin had some good program ideas that never got a chance….he also was instrumental to finding a peace, although not lasting, between Israel and Palestine, of which he gets little credit…..finally he was the closest thing we have had as president that is a true Christian…..

These days there is lots of back and forth on climate change or global warming or dinosaurs farts….science is ignored all in favor of some continuous BS….but Carter had an idea on this problem back in the 70’s and it was a good one…sadly he got no chance to put his ideas into motion……(and we know why don’t we?)…….

Americans, who hate to be told they must change, roundly condemned Jimmy Carter’s memorable “Crisis of Confidence” speech of July 15, 1979. In it, Carter outlined a program for achieving energy independence: “On the battlefield of energy we can win for our nation a new confidence, and we can seize control again of our common destiny.”

We admirers have long endured ridicule whenever we dared to defend Carter’s prescient plan for reducing U.S. dependence on oil.

But today, after all the abuse and scorn heaped on Jimmy Carter and his supporters, we find ourselves paying more than $4 a gallon at the pump to fill our hulking gas guzzlers.

It turns out that Carter was right after all.

They say hindsight is 20/20 but it would not be needed if there were more people of courage and vision like Jimmy Carter.

All I know is my area use to get 10-12 inches of rain during the summer months…..these days we are lucky to see 4….something is going on and something needs to be paid attention to or the results could be dire.

Reaching Beyond the Candidates

Let me begin with the Olympics that I watched…..US women’s rugby team tied world champs Australia 12-12 and lost in the quarter finals to New Zealand 5-0….Soccer US women beat France 1-0…..US women’s air rifle won GOLD….US Women;s trap…Bronze……

This election of 2016 is proving just how much of farce American democracy has become….it has become a spectator sport…..voter input is pure illusion.

The thing is, people get it. One way or another, they realize they aren’t being represented by most of the people they vote for. They realize, in enormous numbers, that the time has come to rescue this country from a status quo that thinks it owns us. That’s the subtext of Election 2016, whatever winds up happening in November. Public anger has transcended the mass media’s excruciating efforts to contain and minimize the national debate about the country’s direction.

What would it take to cause Hillary Clinton to distance herself from the newly launched bombing campaign in Libya? Or call for a congressional debate on it? Or suggest the obvious: that the war on terror isn’t working?

Of course it won’t happen. But the fact that it sounds so absurd — almost as fanciful as the notion of movie characters stepping off the screen into real life — indicates how illusory, how unglued from reality, American democracy is at the presidential level. It’s a spectator sport — mud wrestling, say — doled out to us as entertainment by the media in sound bites and poll numbers.

Public input couldn’t be less relevant to what we actually do as a nation, and as an empire.

I would ask the voter/public to step back from this illusion and take an honest look at the future…..of course that is a pipe dream for we are too angry over this stupid issue or that….

I weep for “you can’t fix stupid”!

And this election is chock full of stupid on so many levels.

And the election will do NOTHING to rid ourselves of this stupidity if anything it will get much worse……

Thank God I am old…..I will be gone before you douche bags destroy this country.
